Tommy Hearns would have hung on to the final bell and beat SRL.
Well, in a way he did. Didn't even have to hang on to the final bell. Have you forgotten the rematch? Knocked Leonard down twice, dominated throughout most of the rounds bar a few and still was only given a draw?!?! It should have been a very wide UD win.
Come to think of it, that is a fight I would definitely change. Hearns is never remembered for that fight much. Another sad case of a BS robbery 'draw'. Hearns dominated that fight and yet he is never remembered for having given Leonard a good solid whippin'! Sucks.
I think I would change a fight I saw when I was younger with my Dad. It was the first fight between Jeff Fenech and Azumah Nelson. Fenech was undefeated and coming off a two year retirement from broken hands and he was moving up in weight to his fourth division.
Nelson was still going strong having only lost to Sal Sanchez and Pernell Whitaker.
Anyway, what ensued was an utter disgrace and very typical of boxing and how it can completely destroy a fighter. Nelson won the first two rounds with some good boxing then took two huge rights in the third which changed the fight. Fenech won every round after that and doing everything apart from knocking Nelson out. If it had gone one more round (like the Sanchez fight) he would've been done, as he was so close to be KO'd in the last round it wasn't funny. Anyway, the fight was 10 rounds to two or maybe nine/three if generous.
Fenech would have become the only undefeated fighter ever to win four titles in four divisions and at the time would have been in the company of only Leonard, Hearns and Duran who had also won titles in four weight classes.
Most Nelson fans talk about how he had Malaria and was sick and all sorts of crap. No fighter, in fact no athlete, could ever go twelve hard rounds with one of the best wear down fighters after just having recovered from malaria. It is just physically not possible. He was still fighting hard through the whole fight, he just couldn't beat him. There was no way he had anything wrong with him...he looked in great shape. was very ripped and fought well until taking two great whopping rights which nearly put him away.
Anyway, that fight ruined Fenech as he never fought a good fight after that. Took his fighting soul. Sad.
I would also love to change any fight with a bad outcome. Doo Kim, McClellan, Watson etc etc. All very sad.
Gatti-Baldomir....I really liked Gatti's heart even though he had limited skill he always gave his all and I would've loved to have seen him beat Baldomir become the linear WW Champ and retire on top without taking the punishment of the Gomez or subsequent fights.
bush v gore.
Lol. Don't we all. I would have to pick Trinidad-Hopkins. Had Tito won that fight he would have become the greatest Latino fighter of all time IMO... Better than Duran. Don't think I'll ever get over that fight.
Since someone threw the election in there, which I agree with... I would change Diego v Motorcyle. That was too tragic and just unfair.
Douglas v Tyson
Tyson v Lewis
Vitali v Lewis
Wladamir v Sanders
ODH v Floyd
To name a few...
Winky Taylor and/or winky hopkins
Undisputed light middleweight , middleweight and light heavyweight champion of the world
I thought he won both fights as well
Probably Foreman/Ali so that we could have seen a lot more of prime Foreman and Hagler/Leonard so that we could have gotten to see about two more years of Hagler.
