Who Can Give Floyd More Trouble?

Mayweather uses defense to set up his offense so guys like Mosley and Margarito who constantly like to come forward and throw play right into his game. Cotto is the most patient of the 3 and so gives Mayweather the most problems. That is true, I could see him countering Shane and specially Margarito all night on his way to a ud.

I'm sorry but I stopped taking your post seriously right about this point. Well you dont know much boxing then. I am sorry you don't see that. Chin and stamina are not skills. Margarito know what he is doing there, but he is not on JLC level in terms of skills. He does not cut the ring as well as JLC, he does not time his punches as well, he is not smooth at all when he switches on the inside and so on. Like I said you will never see Margarito take a step back and time an elite boxer with a right hand. I dont know if it was because of all the sparring with JC, but Castillo has excellent skills, Margarito does not. Look at the 1st Castillo fight, weather it was because of the injury or the 10lbs disadvantage, Mayweather was having all sort of troubles outboxing Castillo. Look at Castillo-Casamayor, Casamayor was not having it easy boxing Castillo. Castillo brought pressure and a ton of skills. Both fights were not a case of JLC breaking them down after taking the kitchen sink on his head. It was JLC fighting and not getting outboxed.

Good post but I have to dissagree. If Mosley can be out-boxed by Cotto, who fights allot like a Mayweather without the defense and countering, what do you think Floyd will do? He will win a UD, no doubt. It will take a physical guy to beat Floyd, like in the Castillo I fight. Margarito is Castillo I with size and a higher workrate. Floyd will wilt under that pressure and possibly get TKO'd. He knew this so he avoided that fight at all cost. Margarito has 10% the skills of Castillo. He is still my favorite pick, but seriously can you imagine Tony taking a step back and landing a well timed straight right on Floyd? (btw this happened a number of times during their first fight, second time around Mayweather got on his bike and won AGAIN, this time convincingly)

You should have included Manny Pacquiao on the list... But well, this was created last May. Before... no one thinks Oscar De La Hoya and Pacquiao would fight because many are saying it's crazy... Even to think of fighting Mayweather is more crazy... Same as before... Pacquiao is always underrated...

I like cotto and marg's as fighters more than mosley but feel he would give floyd more trouble because of several reasons: 1. Can match him in hand speed 2. has enough power to to keep floyd honest 3. has a good enough chin to keep comming on a hit and runner 4. good footwork the chances of cotto or marg are predicated on the fact that they may be able to hurt and ko mayweather, that to me is a big "if", I could see Mosley being a desision threat. I believe that cotto or margarito can hurt mayweather but i also believe that mayweather has the ability to avoid their power for 12 rounds with running, shoulder D, head movement, hugging, and the acational low blow.

People think Cotto will give Mayweather a hard time? Mayweather's way smarter than Cotto. I'd think that Margo would be a more difficult fight for Mayweather because of his physical dominance. When Mayweather slips and moves, Margo would be towering over him. Cotto would make Floyd run to Floyd "Predator Sr." Mayweather and cry on his shoulder.

Good post. thanks, I think Mayweather is obnoxious. I also think there are some weaknesses in his game, too. Bit his timing is one of the best I have ever seen.

I think Marg simply because of his tremendous pressure. The other two will have no chance in boxing Floyd. Noway anyone can beat Floyd by boxing. Marg's weakness is his too slow. He times puches at times well, but againts Floyd his has pretty much has no chance. Floyd will do what Cotto was unable to do constantly with Marg. Not only do it constantly for twelve, but much better. I don't think any of the three can beat Floyd, but if any would have a shot would be Marg because he poses the style that can distrupt a boxer, but unforutanetly not in case, because Floyd is just too fast and to good of a boxer.

There is just no way I see Mayweather dealing with Margs pressure all 12 rounds. He would be roughed up and broken down eventually.

Mayweather act by reflexes his timing is good but not better than Cottos. Timing is one category that Cotto is better than Floyd,including power and combination punching. But Of course for Floyd Huggers, Floyd is god and nobody is better in any single category than Floyd!!!!!!! What do you mean he acts on reflexes? How do you counter people? You look for openings, how do you find them? You look at the guy in front of you and act fast. Everyone acts on reflexes when countering or when you see an opening. Now you are going to tell me, that Mayweather improvises at every punch the other guy throws? Really? How does he get sharper as the fight goes on then? Something to do with looking for patterns and timing them? Mayweather's timing is the best in boxing today. Period. 90% of fighters throw combos on an even rhythm, Mayweather changes the tempo of his punching, that's how good his timing is. And that is one of the reasons (the other being what makes him boring too watch, his movement and stance which he changes throughout th fight), why many fighters stop throwing when they fight him, after a while they know the counters are coming on pretty much anything. Obviously Cotto throws more combos these days for sure, and even more obviously has more power. I am sorry it is SO hard to see things, clearly when you share some national/ethnic trait with a fighter.

I am surprised the poll has Cotto leading, surely a more entertaining fight, but I would put quite a bit more money on Marg than on Cotto against Mayweather.

Cotto for one big reason, Timing, Cottos timing is ridiculously good. And timing kills speed. Cotto have the hand speed and timing to deal with Mayweather, plus that left hook to the body, he will be lading it ala Castillo. Im not saying Cotto will whipe the floor with PBF, but theres a big chance that Cotto wins a UD or Late TKO. Im basing my thoughts on how Cotto dealt with Malinaggies and Mosleys speed and how hatton and Castillo were able to get to Mayweather. I agree that Mosley in his prime would of gave PBF lots of trouble, Margaritos style, is just to amateurish to beatdown Mayweather.You need to have a good offensive aresenal and very good boxing skills to be able to beat PBF. Styles make fights!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you do realize that Mayweather has better timing that Cotto, dont you?

To all those who mention Cotto's jab... look at the punch... it's a power shot. it's not a fast jab, it is hard as hell, but i don't think it would be very useful against Mayweather, also considering the reach difference.

cotto would be the best fight...but margo might make floyd break his hand cause floyd would be hitting his big ass head at will I think Floyd would go to Margaritos body a lot and slow him down somehow, but that risk is there, I agree

I say Cotto. Floyd would pot shot and hold Margarito and steal round after round. Shane has not impressed me as of late, and I think Cotto is the cleanest-fastest boxer of the three.

I would say Cotto, Margarito destroyed Cotto but styles make fights.
