In the act of fighting, there is no more noble victory than knocking somebody out with a punch while still standing yourself.....
I feel that this is the difference between the sports that is too often ignored.
Your thoughts...?
You are right, you can't compare the two, not quitting in boxing can result in death.
In rare cases, yes. Over many rounds. Getting locked in an arm bar happens in a split second and you only have that split second to react. Tapout or suffer a very serious injury.
I think the fact that most MMA guys are white is instrumental in its popularity. Even though Rampage Jackson and Anderson Silva are the best thing to happen to the sport it still hurt the organisation perhaps irreperably to have them kicking the jesus out of longtime white champs. White college frat boys want to see people who look like white college frat boys knocking people out. I'm sure there are nuances of the sport that purists alone appreciate, but the popular viewership wants to see white people knocking guys out.
true stories but rampage is such a likeable character that you cant help no matter what colour you are but like him. dude is funny as fuck and is generally liked by most in the organisation
i watch both but i dont think ufc stands up to mma in the least bit. through things like 24/7 and countdown we get a greater insight into fighters and there is nothing as good as 2 fighters who dont like each other or who hav built a disliking for each other in the run up to a fight fighting. look at hopkins and trinidad when hopkins threw the puerto flag on the ground i really thought that felix wanted 2 kill him, look at his face at the exact moment it was hilarious
also there is no drama in ufc ala the mayweather family although their affairs are not boxing in its purest form it adds to the whole effect

Most of MMA’s fighters have below par standup. For people who consider themselves martial artists they leave a lot to be desired in striking proficiency.
Most wade in with wild punches, very little in the way of combinations (apart from fighters such as Anderson Silva who even with his stand up could not compete at the highest level of boxing) and overall lack striking technique.
Cung Le is about the closest I've seen to a good stand up martial artist.
The difference in boxing is that top level fighters are masters of their art.
Boxing is more pure than MMA at the moment. Maybe in a few decades MMA will catch up but until then boxing is the purists sport.
MMA is a martial SPORT!!! not a martial ART!!! i know plenty of martial artists that are much more proficient in striking than anybody in MMA. But martial arts emphasize self defense. which means fighting 4 as little of a time as possible. As in kick an attacker in the nuts, break his arm, then elbow him in his adam's apple. All of which would be illegal in both mma and boxing. The reason most mma fights are dominated by grappling is because the majority of high level mma fighters are primarily wrestling or jiujjitsu experts...and take striking as a secondary art. If a boxer or kickboxer could bomb away at an opponent in a real fight and never get taken down in the process...Grappling would never exist. But just like real life...if you get into a fight. It doesnt matter if you're the most fundamental boxer in the world. It's more than likely going to end up on the ground..with both guys scrambling to get favorable positioning to bomb away at the other guy.
The mere word Tapout describes a lack of heart.
In Boxing, fighters are branded as cowards for quiting. In MMA, they are not.
Yeah, because allowing your arm to be broken so you can't fight again for months or being choked unconscious risking brain injury are real conducive to a successful career. :ugh:
You are right, you can't compare the two, not quitting in boxing can result in death.
Choosing to 'tap out' in mma equates to the choice in boxing as to whether or not to continute taking a beating that puts onself in the position of facing a possible fatality. The fact that it is less likely is of immaterial value...
You two are ignorant. Any of the chokes used in MMA will indeed result in death if held long enough.
Why the hell doesn't the dude in your sig just cut off the octagon? I hate watching that.
Cutting off an Octagon and cutting off a ring are two different things. An Octagon has no right angles/corners, while a ring has 4. You can't corner a guy when there are no corners!
exactly, white muffuckas ask me how much i charge to cut their grass on a daily basis. i dont get offended. i may do it to scope out their place so i can break in and jack shit later on but i dont get offended. the majority of landscapers happen to be hispanic.
You can't say shite like that you muthaf*cka! That's racist against all hispanics!
:lol1:

  You a crazy bastard...
Just a point on over 'PCness'. Since when does a factual observation mean racism? That is the whole damn problem with this overly PC world we live in now. How is an observation that more white people live in an area racist? What about more black people in an area? What's the difference between that and 2501's statement? I didn't see the slightest amount of any racist thought there? but, somehow you guys did....hmmmm?
It seems to me that anything that involves a discussion between two colours or that puts a majority somewhere means it is automatically racist? So, is jazz racist because it is probably still played by more black muso's or is that an actual racist comment?
You've got to learn to differentiate between someone or something that is actually thought of with a racist connotation behind it. What 2501 said seemed to me to have absolutely nothing of the sort in it and the fact that you jumped up about just means that it is you that is actually thinking those things.
This is the pathetic reason that we can't even differentiate between a white guy and a black guy by saying "oh, Joe's the black dude" because someone like you will jump out and say, "Dude, what the f*ck? That's racist!", "Huh, but Joe is the black dude."
Stating that there is more white guys in MMA...how in the hell is that racist? I can't even begin to see where that could be construed as such either? Maybe if he had said "There's more white guys in MMA 'cause the black dudes can't fight as well." or "Theres more white dudes 'cause it's a hick redneck sport and only dirty white trash like it" That could be seen as racist certainly but not what he actually did say.
Where is your thinking at mate? Sounds to me like a closet racist! Seeing racism everywhere. You are guilt ridden over your own racism aren't you? So you have to pretend to be righteous and jump on anyone who makes any comment like that just to make yourself feel better.
F*cking hell I hate this PC crap! A minority of dumbass redneck trash now means we can't even have normal conversations with normal observations without some freaks going nuts about absolutely nothing. It's pathetic.:nonono:

true, when you study many styles, it may make you a better all around fighter but that doesnt mean you are more skilled than someone who practices only BJJ or Boxing.

Depending on the situation not tapping means a career ending injury(arm bar, heel hook, knee bar, kimora and many more), or going unconscious from lack of blood to your brain(triangle choke, guillotine, rear naked choke to name a few.). You really can't compare the two.
You are right, you can't compare the two, not quitting in boxing can result in death.
