Floyd Needs to lose it will make him a bigger star.

Floyd lives for his 0. He don't wanna risk it cuz without it he won't be the same fighter anymore, in his own mind and the mind of his stans. It sucks that as good a fighter as he is has a division stacked with talented name fighters that he don't wanna fight. Ironically, DLH went thru the WW division in his prime fightin everybody available, and even though he suffered some losses and close calls along the way, simply takin on all comers helped him buil his case for entry into the HOF. Floyd could do the same thing, but he's wastin his prime away nitpickin fights instead of goin all out. He's a big enough star with enough haters by now that he could get paid well for any fight, and he said himself he's got more than enough money to retire as is. But he loves bein able to say he's undefeated wit 6 belts in 5 divisions, P4P king, and so on. If he ever lost I don't think he could live wit himself. I've been a fan of his that's tried to defend him stallin the Cotto fight. Cuz I respect Floyd I wanna believe he's dodged the Cotto fight for now to make it more profitable, but I'm thinkin more and more he's gonna just retire without fightin the Cotto-Margarito winner to preserve his record, which he acts like he cares more about than his legacy.

well, i REALLY REALLY doubt he would ever step in the ring with Margarito. If I was floyd, I wouldnt step in the ring with Margarito even though I would be 100% confident I could beat him. the problem with Margo is that if you are naturally smaller and least likely to hurt him, it would be nearly impossible to win in an attractive manner. you can win a fight and STILL lose with the fans. Someone like Floyd would have to box all 12 rounds of that fight. Constantly back peddling, pot shotting, and moving away from Margarito winning a decision in a fight where most of the fans would consider you running away and declining to fight. Margarito also doesnt offer much for Floyd's legacy. Margo has never cracked the top P4P list to my knowledge, though I could be wrong, and wouldnt even be the top3 in his own division. His accomplishments have been less than stellar his fault or not. Take the Baldomir/Mayweather fight. the fans in attendance started booing the fight and many started exiting before the fight even ended. Even though won THE WW Belt, the fight completely hurt his marketability because of such a boring performance. So in a sense, he NEEDED oscar and the 24/7 series to erase the stigma and aura of the Baldomir fight. Thats why I really dont see Margarito/Mayweather ever happening. I agree with your analysis of what could happen if Mayweather fights Margarito, but I still think that if he senses that any of these two is shot and wasted, he will call for a match. Hell, even Wilfredo Rivera scored an amazing knockdown on Fernando Vargas after Vargas went to war with Tito. Yes, Wilfredo Rivera.

i dont like making these types of list because it would require knowledge that i dont have of ALL the great fighters. but what i HAVE seen are list from respected writers and analysts and i have scarcely seen Floyd in the top 20. i agree with what you are saying, there are Floyd fans here who claim that Cotto would do nothing for Floyd's legacy which I dont understand because when the world is calling for you to fight a certain boxer, that will clearly enhance your legacy. but Floyd has meticulously crafted his resume and career with calculated choices, picks and moves and i get the sense that he feels this wouldnt be the best move for him because the possibility of it not going his way may be prominent. i think he is waiting for the situation to become more lucrative career wise and financially. thats what he has always done through out his career, but it doesnt mean its the way it should be done. I agree in that sense but heres another thing that i look at... the guys bak then where not gettin paid as much as the guys of today so i would say guys bak then could have been a lil more hungry...but whoever was a threat to their crown...best believe they fought them

I wouldn't put him even ahead of Benítez. Generally speaking, yes, losing to the right opponent and then avenging the defeat enhances a fighter's career. I have always thought that if Julio César Chávez had lost his first fight against Taylor, he would have looked a lot better after his destruction of Taylor in the second fight. Now no one gives him much credit for the second fight as compared with everyone calling the stoppage one of the biggest robberies in boxing history.
