I have long been a huge Trinidad admirer, but once the fight is out of you it doesn't come back.
I've heard many people say that Trinidad looked decent against Jones, good enough to continue fighting. I don't think that at all. I felt Jones carried him the whole night. George Foreman made this comparison, saying that Jones is not like Bob Foster in that Foster loved the KO. Jones is a showman, he likes to perform.
Take the Julio Gonzalez fight for one. Jones could have gotten Gonzalez out of there at any point he felt like doing so. In spite of all the KDs, Jones never attempted to put him away, instead touched gloves after he got up and went back to his GlobeTrotters versus The Generals act.
If Jones wanted to KO Tito, he could have. I felt even in the rounds where Jones let Tito get off his shots to the body that they had little effect on Jones.
I would like to see Tito visible to some capacity, either promoting or being some public figure in boxing. I would not like to see him fighting anymore because a great warrior like him should not have his legacy tarnished further by letting himself be a canvas for other fighters to paint on. That's not the Trinidad I knew growing up.
Trinidad did great against jones, im surpised he wasnt dominated, and he stook to jones ribbs well. again, im not a single bit dissapointed, jones is a former heaveyweight.
He did alot better than I expected him to, that's for sure. I figured he'd headed to the ER for a CAT scan after the 2nd or 3rd round. Jones is just too big for Tito, and too slick.
I agree with Mclovin. Tito doesn't seem to have any real drive to compete anymore. The fight with Jones Jr is evidence of that. It looked like after a couple rounds Roy could have stopped him if he let his hands go more. There was more of a motivation to put on a good showfor a much hyped, very expensive fight rather then make it look completely pointless.
it was clear jones was carrying him, he could of stopped him if he wanted but we all know that ain't jones style
I'm not sure if he could have stopped him with a bad arm, but Roy definitely carried Trinidad in the early rounds.
I thought Trinidad did well for what he had to deal with, Roy Jones is a guy who has been at heavier weights than Tito most of his career, is physically bigger, and has been fighting bigger, stronger men. Tito showed a lot of toughness, but I don't know why he wants to keep boxing...hell, the man is a legend in his country, and is wealthy. I'd sit back and relax :)
yeh! That's what happens when welterweights fight heaveyweights.
Funny how you take Tito's ;owest weight and Roy's highest. I thought I was the only one that thought Roy almost fully carried Tito that entire bout. Tito DID however look sharp and I think he can get one or two more fights in. He only retired in the first place because of his father.
I know, because you and cmonmang would die defending Margarito's honor.
I'd rather have intelligent conversation go on in a thread than groupie behavior spamming another.
I think we know you posted more then i did in those threads.
My point is that I felt he was allowed to look good by Jones, who really had the fight in hand after the first time he felt Tito's left to the body. If Jones wanted him to look bad, he could have done so. When you drop a guy with a shot to the top of the head, you pretty much have the fight in hand. That underlined the disparity in physical strength.
lol, maybe Roy should have not taken that shot that shook his ass against the ropes.
He looked good for a past prime fighter laid off for a couple years after a 1 sided ass whoopin, but that's it.

So far this thread has bombed. If it was about Margarito, it would be a hit.

he looked decent the first half but he needs to lose the weight and get serious. He doesn't look like the same trinidad. It seems he just stands in there. No desire or anything.

and Trinidad did look great against Roy at least before the knockdown
I love how much attention you give me. You can't stay away from me, can you?
That fight was silly.
Trinidad would have been fodder for Taylor. Taylor may have been unconvincing in some of his defenses, but he has had a sold career at MW and is in his prime. Trinidad has been convincingly beaten in almost every fight from 160 up, and is old. This notion made no sense except as a nice comeback fight for Taylor. Taylor deserves an older name to beat on and look good against

Trinidad looked okay, but not great. I've always kinda felt he was a bit overrated myself.
I've never thought a great deal of Trinidad, myself. He's got great power and OK handspeed, but his footwork sucks and he's always appeared a tad stiff and clumsy to me. Entertaining, certainly, but I never expected a great deal from him in the division, and was probably one of the few people who picked Winky for an easy win over the guy.
