What did you guys think of him saying JMM was the best of this great featherweight era beating Manny Pacquiao twice, Barrera, and having Hamed and Morales "relentlessly ducking him".

i thought marquez ducked naz if i remember correctly.
anyway i think marquez, barrera and morales are pretty much equal in talent. its hard to say who's the best. imo it might be morales. he beat pac clearly 1st time. beat barrera in the first 2 fights imo.
max kellerman run his mouth during the katsidis - casamayor fight and sounded so fucking irritating. he is a cokehead gay version of larry merchant. damn i hate that fucking dude.
He definitely takes an upper, but not coke.
He's probably gay, sure.

That statement was not at all over the top. IMO
no one fuckin' ducked JMM.
He was nobody back when Hamed was still fighting.
Wasn't even on the radar.
Like I heard kayjay say one time about Pernell Whitaker - Oscar DelaHoya. Over time, people say Whitaker was robbed. No he wasn't. THe decision was as clear as day.
Same principles with this.

Those who may not know Steward will say that Steward is only saying that because it's his fighter and he wants to hype him up.
But from my interactions with him in the past, I'd say it's a distorted assessment. Steward is a straight shooter who tells it like it is. Steward has gone on the record several times as saying that he had featherweight Naseem Hamed duck Juan Manuel Marquez at all costs. Also Steward wasn't hesitant about getting in the face of Vivian Harris during the Carlos Maussa fight. So I believe Steward speaks from the heart as he chimes in with an opinion
He was his mandatory, hes wasnt a nobody as you suggest
Max was off and I wish the champ Lennox Lewis would have tactfully put him in his place...
Kellerman called one of the fighters an animal and Lewis said "Gladiator" would be a better word....points to Lewis
Max was also showing his fanhood to JMM by saying he is the best...
The best has to have talent, skills, heart, and excitement factor about him...
Barerra, Morales, and Pacman has more of all that stuff...
JMM has been knocked down by Barerra and Pacman a total of 5 times...
And to say JMM should have won all three of those fights is pretty ignorant...
You can't win fights by sheer counterpunching...why??? because it is harder to win rounds that way...
When you are the over committed counterpuncher you jab less...meaning you initiate contact less...also, the counter puncher looks more like he is waiting than fighting....this is why JMM has been avoided...he doesn't bring much flavor to the fight...there isn't much draw like a Morales v Barerra or Pacman vs anyone...no fighter wants to play tag you're it with a counter puncher...they rather brawl or box
I have to bring up the loss in Japan..that did not help JMM at all.

read somewhere in the middle.
There is a case to be made. I made a thread about this, and the only problem is that people forget what monsters both MAB and EM were in there primes. People are remembering them based on how they fought Pac. In there primes all three beat Pac, maybe even stop him. So seeing as how JMM didnt get to fight either of them in there primes, its hard to judge. But a case can be made. As far as him (and Bob Papa) saying that JMM won both fights against Pac, he is right. Most fair minded people can admit he should have won both fights. If you take the emotion out of it, they were both fairly easy to score. Was he ducked? Sure he was, which is why it took him so long to get a big fight. If the judges had brains he would be undefeated right now.
I don't remember Morales or Barrera ever ducking him. Hamed did though, Marquez was his mandatory for over a year and Hamed refused to fight him and instead fought what he thought was the 'easier' option in Barrera. Kellerman was sometimes painful to listen to last night, he didn't have a good night.
JMM fought well enough that he could have beaten Pac in their 2 fights, but he didn't. He never got a chance to fight Erik or Naz so we'll never know. Just like the 2 Pac fights, the MAB-JMM fight was close and could have gone either way but just happened to go to Marquez instead of his opponent. No more decisive than Pac's win over him last week. And in that fight he got dropped just like he did in both Pac fights. I respect the shit outta Marquez and agree that he's great but he and Pac share the top spot in the featherweight quartet with Marco and Erik a slight rung below IMO.

JMM sure wasn't as popular as those guys, but prime for prime if they fought I would put my money on marquez anyday. Emmanuel Steward has openly said that hamed ducked marquez.

im used to hearing may more non sensical opinions on here at least ten times a day.. so it hardly registers to me.
i dont think it's a crazy statement, hes entitled to his opinion, maybe he should have left out the word "relentlessly"
