Seriously... this isn't a hate thread, but I'm just curious.
People always talk about having to take a few tune-ups and then beating a good contender to get back in a title shot position for most fighters, but for some reason, people think that Margarito gets to skip that whole thing.
It seem especially strange to me in his case for two reason.
1. He lost to Paul Williams, who was viewed as a special fighter, but now that Quintana showed that he has some huge flaws, that doesn't look like such a respectable loss IMO.
2. Welterweight is supposed to be the most stacked divison in boxing, however, they are just handing out title shots to fighters who are coming off losses... if the divison is so stacked, shouldn't there be a ton of guys who aren't coming off losses, who are more than good enough to get a title shot instead of Margarito?
Why does Margarito get a free pass? It certainly isn't because of a financial advantage that he has, so what is it?
I agree with you Baya, im Margarito's biggest fan and didnt see a thing wrong with what you originaly posted. stay black homie.
as if there was an option papito.
Sorry papa, I must have gotten mixed up with your reply to sin's post. All I know is Tony is gonna whoop your boy Cintron and then go for the kill against Cotto can we both at least agree on that?
for the greater good of boxing, i hope margarito wins, because i know he and cotto'll be fireworks.
cotto taking some on the chin and margarito being put in a position hes never been in before - unable to throw that volume of punches late in the fight.
the mexico / pr rivalry lives on.
wow, those off-nights happen a lot huh, so we shouldn't see them as real losses is what you're saying eh?
No, those are real losses. lol but it's difficult to use a loss like Margarito's against Williams or Williams' against Quintana.......as an assessment of them as fighters. Because remember both are big Welterweights and against Margarito.....Williams threw 1300 punches. He also threw literally twice as many punches as Margarito did.
Also Margarito is accustomed throwing 1000 punches a fight, lol. K if he was remotely busier and Williams himself had to "step the action up" how many punches would he throw? 2000?
Either way Margarito was stifled against Williams.......as was Williams against Quintana. Both had off nights.

From what I understood in your post is that Tony avoided Cotto in order to fight Williams, that's why I said that. Don't get too defensive bori.
how'd you understand that if i was as clear as day in the post?
this plain and basic common sense movement not universal?
what exactly are you debating? those are the facts, margarito took the fight against williams, not because he was scared of cotto, not because he was going to make any more money, there are no underlying tones in the post. why the passion to pull things out of thin air to make yourself look like you don't know what you're talking about?
defensive de que, i'm having fun panita - you're in for a losing effort. nothing bad to say about margarito on this end.
now - what happens to plain and basic common sense if margarito succumbs to cintron on april 12th? :) just a hypothetical for ya'.
Margarito fought Williams so he wouldnt be stripped of his title:
Margarito said he doesn't regret his choice to fight Williams instead of Cotto.
"The main factor for me was the title. I earned my title in the ring and I didn't want to lose it like that," said Margarito, who would have been stripped of his version of the 147-pound crowd had he faced Cotto instead of Williams. "I had to fight this guy because he was my mandatory. Maybe I should have gone straight to Cotto. There's nothing I can do about it now. I was very confident I could beat Paul Williams. Things didn't turn out the way I had hoped. But I'm right back on track, so I'm looking forward to this fight and then fighting the winner and maybe Paul Williams down the road."

margarito had an off night and lost to williams and williams had an off night and lost to quintana.
if you think that then its more acceptible to think marg should get another shot
and williams to.
wow, those off-nights happen a lot huh, so we shouldn't see them as real losses is what you're saying eh?
Tony wanted to defend his belt and fight his mandatory. I mean seriously why would Margarito be afraid of Cotto? Cotto's style fits like a good ol' Cleto Reyes glove on Tony.
and who insinuated that hes scared? not this guy.
who are you talking to boy? plain and basic reading, maybe?
Dude, are you serious? Paul Williams is a direct counter to Margarito's style. He's a southpaw who throws volume, but he was big enough to stay away from Margarito while still peppering him with shots. Many people felt, and still do right now, that Cotto is tailor made for Margarito. I'm not saying Williams is overall better than Cotto, but as far as the style match up he was a much tougher opponent for Margarito than Cotto.
bro, now you're saying that margarito voluntarily took a harder, less paying fight instead of taking the easier, higher paying fight in cotto?
bow out papi, come on
Paul William's ribs are perfect for Cotto's style, he wouldn't last 5 rounds against him.:boxing:
Carlos Quintiana outboxed Paul Williams, Cotto would destroy him and Floyd would have a field day with him.
I think a fight with Cintrion makes alot of sense from both camps. Smart move, and he deserves to fight a guy who he beat down and made cry regardless if he lost his last fight or not, espicially when that guy is now a world champion.
However, I think the only people who believe he deserves a shot at a guy like Cotto or Mayweather are his diehard, delusional fans.
Problem is, those are the only people who care enough to make Margirito thread after Margarito thread...

Plain and basic common sense. Margarito is a true warrior, so he took the Williams fight because he felt he was a better fighter than Cotto at the time.
no dude, come on - if he thought that then that would render margarito a fukken idiot if he ever thought that pwill was a better fighter than cotto.
the only reason he fought pwill was to keep his belt, which was noble, just didn't payoff. lets not skew the facts.
Well, all I can say since you guys say that I have been "owned" is that this bum has to go through 3 warriors, Cintron, Quintana and ultimately Cotto, by the time he does this you and "Margarita" will be in my back pocket beside my wallet. Against Cintron he has a chance because he doesn't box but currently has the perfect guy in his corner teaching him that right now in Emmanuel Stewart. With Quintana he definetly needs to box and with Cotto, I won't even waist my time going there. Just remember that he also lost against Daniel Santos, a boxer, so he has troubles with technicians.....:boxing: :boxing:
oh he has a "chance" against Cintron? "3 other warriors".
LMFAO pinche pendejo mamon.

I think its because hes latino.Atleast half of this board is latino and alot of them like to hate on black fighters .Why do you think theres a Mayweather hate thread every 15 seconds? If you go on youtube alot of them throw racial slurs at black fighters.
And if you don`t think there fighter is god, they call you a monkey or a n^gger.
OR maybe it's because Margarito is exciting to watch. People on these boards will respect mayweather if he defends his title against cotto.

D! Get it straight! Margarito is not coming off a loss! He is coming off a KO win over Golden Johnson!
Golden Johnson baby... lifestyle..... really flashy.
there you have it..
and Judah has got more free passes then anyone in the sport of boxing.
Hell what did Floyd do to deserve a potential shot at Judah. Hew wasnt the RING champ at 140 and had only beatin Mitchell at 147, YET Marg was ranked #1 contender for a very long time and didnt get a shot at Judah, Spinks, Mayo OR Baldo or Floyd..
YEah ok Dwiens MARG IS GETTING A FREE PASS?? are you insane? he has never gotten anything FREE in boxing..
Well my mind was since changed because it does make sense to me why he is getting a shot at Cintron, because Cintron wants it, and if he wins, he gets a shot at Cotto.
It just seemed awfully quick that he was getting a title shot after losing, that's all. But obviously I wasn't taking some (quite obvious) things into account. Shame on me. :nonono:
Anyway, Judah did jack shit to retain that fight with Floyd.
If you want a definition of paper championship... it is the IBF belt that Judah held after losing to Baldomir.
I agree with Scott, Tony didnt really get a free pass, everyone who hates him or who is neutral threw the Williams loss in his face. Because the Williams loss was close the WBO kept him high in the rankings as they did with Kendall Holt after his loss to Torres.
And the reason he has an IBF title shit is solely cuz Cintron gave it to him. He didnt cut a line, Cintron personally resquested him as an opponent.
I agree .

I don't got all the details of the "5 days waiting period". Maybe Tony only had a verbal agreement vs. Cintron and had not signed the contract yet. Maybe it was all speculations and gossip. But I do remember the governating body publicly saying Tony had 5 days to make his mind. I thought he was going to fight Quintana since he already dispose of Kermit years aog. Anyway, I was just asking and I am glad Kermit will get his chance to prove if he is for real or not.
