Joel Casamayor: The Lightweight King

Alot of people ignored the fact that Casamayor was The Linear Lightweight champion and gave it to Juan Diaz due to his exciting style, undefeated record and him unifying all but the WBC belt. Cool, I had no problem with that. BUT now that Diaz got whipped out it's time to look at the facts again. It's time to acknowledge the real lightweight champion again. Joel Casamayor has had a bad performance in his last fight after a long layoff but he is The Champ due to beating Corrales when they were the Number 1 and 2 guy in the 135lb division. And fact is, if you beat the champ you are the champ....period. Lookin at Joel's track record, he always comes back with a good performance after a questionable win and I expect him to do that again and box this Katsidis kid socks off and go on to unify these trinkets with Nate Campbell, a guy he already has a victory against. One old guy (nate) already beat the young gun and it's time for another old face of the division to take the younger guy in Katsadis to school.

Diamond landed next to nothing but glove on Casa the whole night and was getting credit for throwing and hitting gloves, don't get mislead by the blind HBO guys. Casa easily won that.

So, by the all knowing vladimirs irrational logic Santa Cruz should now be considered the man, not Casamayor. Did I say that Cruz wasn't robbed? No but facts are facts and Casamayor is still the Ring Magazine champ moving on with his career. What's so hard to understand.

Casamayor was robbed in big fights against Freitas, Castillo and in the draw with Diamond. If anyone deserved a gift, it's Casamayor. It wouldn't even be right for a great to lose to someone like Cruz most likely from the effects of a 13 month lay off, that's a lot for a 36 year old. How was Casamayor robbed against Diamond? His gift against Cruz was not a gift either, it was a plain, all out foul, corrupt, bullshit robbery! He nearly lost every single damn round. All his other 'gifts', as you call them, were very, very close and could have gone either way. They were not what you would ever call a robbery. His fight with Santa Cruz was one of the worst seen in the last decade of boxing! So, by the all knowing vladimirs irrational logic Santa Cruz should now be considered the man, not Casamayor.

santa cruz should be the man at 135. But he isn't and officially Casamayor retained his Ring Magazine title. Obviously Casamayor's stock further plummeted but that performance will be forgotten and his stock as champion will once again rise if he delivers the goods against Catsadis.

You cant have it both ways bro, no title is actually lineal to go back to its starting point, therefore that term can be discredited. Nate has 3 of 4 belts, he IS the man. Casamayor was given a gift in his last fight and that is the reason he is the underdog for this fight. Apparently I'm talking to brick wall...:smashfrea I made my point.......take it how you want it. Casamayor is the Real champ.

If you didnt have a problem with it you shouldnt have a problem with people calling Nate the champ. I do have a problem because Nate didn't do anything but beat Diaz to earn being called the real champ. People ignored Casamayor because Diaz was on a hot streak, collecting titles from fighters who weren't even real champions. Now Campbell beating Diaz doesn't automatically make him the man. You see that's what you call lineage in boxing. And fact is, if you follow the lineage of the lightweight championship, Casamayor is The Champ. Juan Diaz just won the popularity contest with fans BUT now that is over.

If you acknowledged Diaz the champ because of his style and the fact he had 3 belts you have to acknowledge Nate Campbell now as the true champ because he is. I never said that I acknowledged him, other people did and I didn't have a problem with it since Casamayor was inactive. Now Casamayor is to Campbell what Hopkins is to Chad Dawson at ligh-heavy.
