Could Jose Luis Castillo survive as a welterweight?

Yeah, would love to see him have another big pay-day but I wouldn't want to see him in there with Cotto, Cintron, Margarito or Berto. Those guys are pretty big punchers and I dont want to see him hurt. So I dont really see him having a big pay-day unless he is fed to a young wolf trying to get a big name on there resume like Williams, Gomez or Berto. I wouldn't mind seeing him fight Gatti though, I think they would be similar in weight and also similar in regards to there current level of fighting. It would be a could be a nice pay-day for both and probably pretty entertaining too. I thought the same thing. I think Castillo would kill Gatti though. If Castillo loses his next fight, they should sign the contract.

no, he's shot. the corrales fights and making weight at 135 took too much out of him. i hope he gets a big money fight at 147 so he can retire and train young mexican fighters or spanish speaking american ones ( i don't think castillo speaks english)

I think I am going to root for him and possibly buy ppv's he is on just because he is now the underdog and needs money.

No never was a big puncher and never performed well at the higher weights even when he was younger. Besides he has looked shot since Ngoju (sp) I would go as far back to his fight with Rolando Reyes(good fighter, just that Castillo looked old)

He could do fine at welter against some guys, but I doubt he could last long with top prospects or anyone ranked high. He would be a could stepping stone for prospects

Sure, why not. I mean on paper he doesn't have a good shot at beating the top 4 WW's. But fights don't take place on paper, we all know that. We've all seen bigger upsets.

That's why Lazcano was such a favorite, because nobody thought Castillo would be able to make the weight and, if he did, that he'd bee too slow and tired in the second half. good point I wonder why his team doesnt go fishing in the welters, seems to be a lot of money to be made up there.

I think he could as much as when corrales tried it when he fought Clottey... Diego did good.. but his power was just not equal to a true WW... You never know how Corrales power would have really effected the fight if Clottey didn't weight 170 lbs on fight night for a fight at 147 lbs. I never thought that fight should count on Corrales' record because of the weight difference. Weighing 170 lbs on fight night for a fight at 147 lbs is cheating no matter how its looked at. I don't think Manny should be allowed to weigh 144 lbs on fight night for fights at 130 lbs. No fighter should be allowed to gain that much weight before the fight. Shit like that makes weigh-ins useless.

castillo will be easy knock outs for cotto and cintron and quintana will out box him
