First, I just rewatched this fight and let me say it was a very entertaining fight and I saw Pavlik as the clear winner of a close fight. I scored it 116-112 upon review.
I think Pavlik's stock should rise after this fight. He proved a lot of things last night. He had never been past the 9th round and last night he went the full 12 and was the fresher guy at the end despite having a better work-rate. If you told me before the fight that it would go to the cards, I would have bet that Taylor would win, but Pavlik showed he could box strategically and patiently and that he is not a one trick pony.
Still, some may say his stock suffered because he failed to achieve the dramatic type of knockout for which he is known.
Now, if you feel that Taylor should have won or he was somehow robbed, fine, you're entitled to your opinion. But the fight has been scored and Pavlik has been declared the winner.
With that basis, what effect did last night have on Kelly Pavlik's stock?
Pavlik may appear a little one dimensional but with the volume he throws and his ability to come forward through punches, its gonna be difficult to decision him and really difficult to brawl him. If he's a one trick pony.. it's a helluva trick.
I think it stayed the same.
There were postives and negatives.
Postives:
-Seemed to not have a weak chin.
- Could outbox even better then I thought.
- Could go the distance without tiring.
Negatives:
- Broken right hand?
- Didn't seem to adapt until the last two rounds. He should have focused on the body earlier and create some angles here and there. Pavlik is great at throwing straight punches, but Taylor was taking them. If a experienced boxer like Bhop would move at a slower pace and tie him up/etc. I think Bernard would win because Pavlik can't seem to adapt if he doesn't have a backup plan. In the first Taylor fight he used the same plan even after getting knocked down. I think Joe would beat Kelly bigger then Hopkins would. Not sure on him vs Kessler.
So it cancels it out.
Stayed the same. Yes he won a boxing match but he did not impose himself as usual.....Or was it him or Jermain that made it that way? I'm going with Jermain......But either way nice win for Pavlik. His stock stays steady.....he didn't KO the guy he was expected to, but he did win.
I'm still not sure what will actually happen to Pavlik's stock. I think it should go up, but it probably won't. He might have to wait for a possible knockout over Duddy for that.
Taylor, on the other hand, seems to have had quite a stock increase despite the loss.
Kind of like Trinidad against Jones.
I think his stock went up. He showed he could fight 12 full rounds, something he's never done before. He fought Jermain at a weight that benefited Taylor, Jermain fought the fight of his life, and Pavlik still won. The fact that Kelly didn't look his best (seemed like his hands, especially his right were hurt to me) and still beat a very good fighter in Taylor speaks volumes. And all this at 25 years old, come on.
ROSE! he beat the guy who twice beat the legend bhop! not one time but both! wtf more can he do to warrant a little respect? he is 33-0 29 ko's.
Have to agree. He fought the smart fight, there was no need to go all out for a KO, especially when Taylor fighting so cagily. It's still a good scalp.
I think it rose. I would have never picked Kelly to outbox or win a decision against Taylor. Knowing that he has the in his options now, is good to know. He's not just big puncher who has to KO his opponent all the time to win.

It goes down a little bit but the expectations for him were extremely high as he was supposed to defeat Taylor by an emphatic KO. His streak of devastating stoppages ended last night. This is the first time he's been on TV where he didn't score a knockout.
He did do alot of good things yesterday though, going 12 very strongly, good boxing. Taylor isn't definitely no pushover.
i think its about the same. He didn`t show me anything that i didn`t already know.
he has good power, decent conditioning but a weak chin.
Personally i think he is a little too easy to hit, his defence relies too much on backward movement and parrying. He has little to no head movement or lateral foot movement. I didnt really see him slip any punches to work an opening.
He's entertaining to watch and thats what matters.
yeah, ok! you are an idiot!

It was never gonna rise in this fight unless he could get Taylor outta there in like 2 or 3 roudns, which was never gonna happen.
But now he can move on to fighting Trinidad and then Abraham and then other big fights and make his stock bigger and bigger and bigger
It stayed the same for me.
He did pretty much what I thought he was going to do, I expected a late TKO or a decision win by outworking Taylor. The latter is what happened.
Pavlik stock obviously rose after this win, but there is some weakness that an excellent boxer can exploit. (ie Calzaghe and Dawson) Jermain could of won that fight, if he had been more busy.
