I feel that boxing is sliping right now. There are no current mega stars like there use to be in the passed. And that is probably due to the fact that ppl have other souces of entertainment than they did in the past. My idea is that boxing needs a Super Bowl type event once a year consisting of 4 fights in one night all being of main event type status, for example: Klitchsko-Chagaev, Calz-Hopkins, mayweather-cotto, hatton-diaz and have it in a huge stadium and charge like 80$-90$ for ppv. Sure each of those fighters might not make as much as if they had their own events but it would get ppl talking about boxing and I would suspect it would draw ppv buys of atleast 10 mill plus the 90,000 or so ppl in the stands it would be a sick event.
what do you think?
Yeah, too bad Floyd is peaking now and Oscar peaked 10 years ago (the last time he was #1 p4p.)
who cares when they peaked. DLH is still good enough to be a top fighter in the welterweight division if he so desired.

so its still gonna be bigger then any other fight this year lol
There already is one, it's gonna be mayweather vs dlh 2 lol

yea, Matt Hughes beat him the 1st time around too.......
yes, that was like st.pierre's 5th pro fight and he even said that Hughes was his hero and he was in aw of him and that he would beat him in their 2nd fight which he did in destructive fashion. st.pierre has dominated every second of their last 2 meetings so that pretty much makes up for it.
If football took boxings lead the best NFL team would play a shitty high school team (that was really popular in the media) in the superbowl and it would be on PPV.
GSP is the man. I haven't enjoyed watching an all around fighter like him since Frank Shamrock.
Didn't GSP lose by TKO to Matt Sierra?
You're right boxing does need a Super Bowl, especially the welterweight and HWT divisions. If they have a 147 Super Bowl tournament and get the winner, then all four will become superstars and then fans would want to see rematches or other matches between Cotto, May, Williams, Cintron/Margarito winner. And you can add Clottey Judah Witter and V Ortiz to the mix.
The fighters are all there, they just have to make the fights. and if the dodger doesn't want to participate, strip him.
You can only be called the best of you fight and beat the best.
st.pierre is the best p4p mma fighter in the world bar none. he has freakish athletic ability. he is 170 lbs and is known to take down great heavyweight fighters in sparing sessions. he was a pure striker(puncher, kicker the best at both) when he first came into the mma and basically had no ground skills like judo, wrestling or jiu jitsu. but since he started training with canadian olympic wrestlers that has become the best part of his game and has beaten and dominated 2 of the best ground fighters at their own game in his last 2 fights. that is basically the low down on st.pierre.

And if there were a super bowl, it should happen during the 2 weeks of the confrence championships and the superbowl, or sometime during February, when NOTHING is going on in sports...
I like that idea... that would really be somethin to have that many great matchups in one night... It would really make history, id buy that in a second..But if you think boxing is slipping, where were you throughout 2007?
Oh and GSP is a great fighter... but matt serra my man knocked that ass out, cant wait for the rematch.. i think it will be a similar outcome.
yeah, it was a lucky punch but its not happening again. I kinda relate it to rahman on lewis, something that can't happen twice. serra is good but he isn't in st.pierre's league, watch for georges to dominate 100% of the rematch.
I like your idea, but nobody would buy a boxing ppv thats 80 bucks. Almost no matter what the matchups were.
but it would be so much fun to have something like that. I like that other guys idea, network television! It would make more money than ppvs anyway with all the advertisements.
but if this kind of thing ever happened... :hail:
It would be fantastic.
People would pay.... It would be huge.

World Fight Night
This sort of ties into a thread I just saw about a Boxing SuperBowl... here's my idea...
WORLD FIGHT NIGHT
WHAT?
Boxing's Super Bowl. Three World Championship headliner matchups on one night. For instance instead of Pavlik/Taylor in Feb., Marquez/Pacquiao in Mar., and BHOP/CalZ in Apr., they all happen at one location on one night. This should be done once a year. Also, three very solid undercard matchups involving top prospects/fading stars. A boxing extrravaganza... Boxing's Super Bowl.
WHY?
Gives Boxing the frontpage of sports for a week. Gives Boxing a main event... something to build up to. This will draw in casual fans. Casual fans create pressure to clean up the sport. Cleaning up the sport gives us better fights.
WHEN?
Third week of February. Dead time in American sports. I don't know about other countries, but I imagine almost everywhere in the Northern Hempishere it's similar.
HOW?
Tough. Need alot of cooperation from alot of people. Promoters need to realize that an event like this will make them a fortune in the long run. It's too bad that today's promoters are constantly making Penny-wise pound-foolish decisions.
Ideally, it would be an event on Free Tv. But baby steps. Open up charging like 75 bones on PPV.
WHERE?
Would be an event that moves around... depending on bids from cities. As other countries begin reaching out to foriegn fighters... the event could be moved from the US to Europe and maybe Mexico/South America..
Give me suggestions and problems with/for this idea.

This sounds like a good idea to me, i dont think its a very realistic one but i like it all the same.
One thing that MMA edges boxing in is the undercard, it was even more so when Pride was around.
Its the guy in the thread starters avatar. Google his name to find out more about him.

Doesnt sould like a bad idea. Get ready for the snobby, boxing aficionado's to attack you over your George St. Pierre avatar. Personally, i think he's one of the most gifted/skilled athletes in the world!
yeah thats stupid if ppl judge me on my avatar pic just cuz its mma. I love both but I love boxing a wee bit better. I mostly have it cuz I use to train in the same gym as st.pierre in montreal and he is the nicest person I've ever met. You will never meet a kinder sole in your life.
