Whats the best strategy vs Floyd?

Check out some of Floyds other fights. Floyd was frustrated against Castillo, and against Judah for the first round or two (But the foolish, one dimensional, mental midget judah crumbled and could not adapt like Floyd)those fighters too, forgot about them, i mean seriusly judah, if he could have kept his mind set he could have been one of the best boxers of all time. But it also doesn't help when the ref said it wasn't a knockdown, when it clearly was.

I find it retarded that people keep on mentioning Cotto's jab because of De La Hoya's jab. Those jabs look nothing alike.

Get a time capsule go back to the early 1980's and pick up Sugar Ray Leonard. Or get Duran in his prime at 135. Pretty much any ATG with a size advantage can beat Mayweather. Why do you think of Leonard specifically?

He got upset with Urkal, because he was headbutting Cotto like crazy, nothing more. Cotto have the type of pressure and boxing skills that will presented a lot of problems against Floyd. Plus Cottos timming is as good as Mayweather True. Floyd is faster in the hands than Cotto though and his elusiveness would give Cotto problems. Regardless of what anyone will say I'll feel Floyd would beat Cotto. If anyone right now would beat Floyd at 147 tho I'd pick Cotto.

Cotto's footspeed is slow. Floyd would time him over and over coming in. Cotto would have his moments but I don't think he can win a 12 round decision. And Floyd(unlike Shane) isn't gonna stand in front of Cotto trading with him. It'd be competitive since Floyd doesn't fight 3 mins of every round but I can't see Cotto winning. Its possible Cotto loses his focus out of frustration of havin trouble landing on Floyd...he got upset against Urkal.

Floyd has several weakness which I talked about in a thread I made recently. Overcoming his physical skills isn't the biggest difficulty though, its fooling his boxing brain. He is very smart in the ring and has a Plan B, a Plan C etc. You need discipline and focus, for every minute of every round, which I think is the most difficult aspect of beating the man. For example, Oscar provided part of the blueprint for beating him, but stopping throwing his jab, which allowed Floyd to win several easy rounds against him. Good post. Even if Oscar did keep throwing it I think Floyd would have made an adjustment tho(or maybe he even did). No one dimensional guy is gonna beat Floyd. All Margarito can do is come forward in a str8 line Floyd would box circles around him. Cotto would present some problems but I think Floyd still beats him after figuring him out.

Unless you're somewhere close to Floyd's level athletically, strategy won't matter because you won't have any shot no matter what you try. That's why it's a joke to say Floyd should fight guys like Pacquiao or Cotto or Marquez or Margarito. Floyd beats every one of them 100 out of 100 times cuz they just don't have the talent or athletic ability to keep up. The only boxer in the world with any hope against Floyd is Paul Williams. Maybe Andre Berto if he keeps improving.

How many times did Leonard Retire only to un-retire again? If a big enough fight comes by Floyd could be enticed to come back. (or let me re-phrase that, a fight that he calculates is easy enough for a huge sum of money against an opponent who is supposed to be amazing but in reality is not. (Remember "if it don't make dollars it don't make sense" according to Floyd)

I was thinking about how all fighters follow Floyd around the ring. None have had significant success.. I think the next fighter to face him should try a new tactic. Maybe let Floyd come in and try to counter. 1) Do not attack Floyd 2) Do not move foward......let him make the fight on his own 3) keep moving away 4) Only engage Floyd after he comes in and attack using counters or time him when he comes in Any other ideas? heres one idea-dont worry about how 2 fight a guy that is RETIRED

It starts at the press conference. Talk about his kids and say you would stomp on his kid's testicles. Yes you have to go that low. Maybe getting Floyd mad and getting under his skin may get him off of his game. That is part of it too. Remember when Duran told Sugar Ray leonard that his wife was a whore and said all sorts of other things to him before their first fight? That is part of the key. (But not all of it) you have to make floyd so angry that by the time fight night comes he is partially off his game.

1) You have to be much bigger than him. 2) Or be a great fighter. Unfortunately we will only get a chance to see number 1, which I do not find as intriguing.

Cintron and Margarito aren't skilled enough. Corrales had the tools to defeat Floyd but he used too much hooks, uppercuts and wasn't skilled enough. Paul Williams is a candidate but isn't experienced enough. De La Hoya in a rematch won't defeat Floyd because he will run out of gas (but the De La Hoya againist Mosley II and Vargas could!) Uh, this is possibile only in welterweights beacause Floyd is small here.

Maybe let Floyd come in and try to counter. 1) Do not attack Floyd 2) Do not move foward......let him make the fight on his own 3) keep moving away 4) Only engage Floyd after he comes in and attack using counters or time him when he comes in Any other ideas? a long reach is needed for this strategy and floyd fights better against fighters with this strategy. thats what makes him so good, he could fight any way shape and form. at the beginning of his career when fighters were closer to his size or smaller, he was the predator. but now that fighters are usually bigger than he is, he uses the strategy in your post. when hatton got tired, he tried that strategy for about 25 seconds and mayweather took care of him.
