Mayweather is #1 p4p and has earned that
Cotto barely beat an old Mosley and a washed up Judah
He doesnt deserve shit until he beats:
Williams
Cintron (though this would be easy but he has a belt)
Margarito
until then dont hold it against Floyd for no wanting to fight a no-personality having fighter who won't generate enough money and hasn't beat the rest of the best of the WW division
well, my point is that "enough" isnt overwhelming enough for williams to be the clear contender for cotto. see how that works?
well to me you shouldnt call an opponent contender unless your at the very top. it is cotto and williams who are the appropriate contenders to get the shot at floyd, so they should see whos better
edit: im out for the day peace
well my point is the "most" isnt overwhelming enough for cotto be the the clear contender. there are enough people that think williams is better

even if Williams were to win, as long as Cotto wins, Cotto would STILL be the most logical opponent for Floyd. Atleast thats what most boxing experts, analysts and fans think so.

but from the POV of whos the #1 contender to fight floyd, unless williams loses or makes it close with quintana he needs to fight cotto

Whether Floyd vs. Cotto in late 08 will completely be up to Floyd and not Cotto.
Gomez/Cotto is not only a tune up but a showcase to build up Margo/Cotto since Margo/Judah is on the same card as Gomez/Cotto. That can only help bring attention to Cotto/Margo in APRIL. There would be no reason as to why Cotto/Mayweather wouldnt happen in late 08 unless Cotto loses or Mayweather declines to fight him by stating a million irrelevant excuses.
cotto will fight anybody theres no denying that
from a business POV if cotto can win these fights and do hatton or half-DLH numbers and theres no one else that can make as much money for floyd (once he rematches DLH), then i would consider floyd to be ducking him because he fights for money
but from the POV of whos the #1 contender to fight floyd, unless williams loses or makes it close with quintana he needs to fight cotto
i know its the plan to fight marg but not sure about williams
i mean why even fight this gomez guy when you can expedite teh path to floyd by fighting marg now??

You are aware that thats the plan right?

since when do people in their prime do tune ups?
Good question. You should ask a Floyd stan. But I'm sure they'll tell you that these tune ups had belts.
and cotto should be fighting marg right now. marg gave an impressive performance during his undercard with mosley. and then all he woulda have to do is beat williams.

Let's see how Williams does against Quintanna, who'll be the second best guy he's ever faced, before there's any discussion of a Cotto fight.
Cotto has earned the right to fight the big money fights like Mayweather and DLH, Williams hasn't.
Looks like Cotto has to fight Yury Nuzhnenko, who is the WBA interem champ, or he'll lose his title, next after Gomez anyway.
williams wont lose but if he does than cotto will become the clear #1 contender after beating marg.
williams hasnt earned the right to fight mayweaher, but he has with cotto

if he woulda done that we coulda had cotto/pbf late 08/early next year. but instead hes wasting his time with gomez. since when do people in their prime do tune ups?

I would be glad that Quintanna wins but i think he's over-rated and it'll be an easy win for wililams.
hes proven hes good by beating a respected welter in marg
he CANT defend against a top contender because they haven't/wont fight him i.e. cotto and cintron
enough fans and analysts think he can beat cotto, and for someone that is relatively unknown that is good enough.
Funny, thats the same position Margarito was in before williams fought him. What is Williams biggest win again? lol

Defended it against a top contender, not necessarily another champion. He hasn't defended it partially because he fairly recently won it, he's new on the scene and hasn't proven himself yet.

he would if cotto or cintron would take the challenge. have they? and whos fault is that?

After 31 fights, Floyd had won a 130 lb title, defended it 8 times.
Then won a 135 lb title and defended it 3 times.
After 31 fights, Cotto had won a 140 lb title, defended it 6 times.
Then won a 147 lb title and defended it 3 times.
Pretty similar to me.
Now we have Paul Williams, he's just won a 147 lb title, and hasn't even defended it yet.

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
errrr im not going to say "cotto has found in 2 or so divisions" everytime i make that argument
i defined from the BEGINNING cotto hovers around WW
dont blame me because Hooked on Phonics never worked for you
errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Because Floyd been through many divisions in his career - 6 titles in 5 divisions. He doesnt have time to clear it out. Cotto has been in how many? Theres nothing wrong with that, but if your gonna hover around the same division your whole career you might as well clear it out

Mayweather To Smart To Fight Cotto
PBF is to smart to fight Cotto. When Floyed fights a pressure fighter he knows that at one point in the fight he we have to trade shot for shot. When he fought the smaller Hatton he was able to take his best and KO him in 10. PBF knows that Cotto is a brick house. He is a smarter-than-average pressure fighter, has power in both hands, and wears down an an opponent with crippling body shots. Cotto has been wobbled by guys that hit harder than PBF ( ZAB and Mosley) but he was able to take their shots and kept going. With guys like PBF who can't hurt him. he walks right in and bangs away with good results. PBF knows that Cotto acually might beat a stylist like himself, because he'd ignore PBF's punches and crowd him, pummel him, and get his work done. Floyed is way to smart to get in the ring with a guy who would most likely kick that ass. The "GREATEST'" I don't know , but the smartest "yes" (HE WILL NEVER FACE COTTO!!!!!!)
