Vargas has to be the biggest hyped fighter ever.He maded money from an undefeated record and everyone wanted to fight him.He was more like a punching bag for the elite fighters!!!
My point is he was alot of show but no punch behind it.He tried cheating against De La Hoya and got his butt kicked. Not a hall of famer in my eye.
He's still getting in the Hall of Fame....for being the youngest to win the 154lb title.
Vargas made more money in his 4 fights (Mosley twice, Trinidad, De La Hoya) than Lewis' overrated ass did in his whole career.
That said, he was a disgrace to the sport of boxing with his "I'm a real Mexican Aztec Warrior" attitude. Everytime he opened his big tacquito eating mouth he'd have it shut and rewired by the beating he received.
I know you cant be talking about Lennox Lewis if so I think when Lewis fought Tyson he made 30million. I dont think Vargas has come close to touching that in 4 fights.
I love how some people think that unless you're a transcendental talent who captures championships in multiple divisions and retires undefeated, you're nobody.
Vargas had an accomplished career that he should be proud of. So what if it doesn't measure up to what others have done?
I doubt that he is set financially. To me someone who is set financially means they can sit on their @ss , not even lift a finger and be able to live comfortably for the rest of of their life. See Bill Gates and A-ROD!
Set for life. If he has 5 million, he COULD be set for life. He has more than that, unless he made VERY bad decisions. Which I've no reason to believe he did with his money.
Vargas was a warrior, this is why I distinguish FANS and ANALYSTS, as an analyst I see Vargas as the warrior he is, he gave his ALL every single time but FANS look at him and see a loser, it's like if you ain't Floyd Mayweather or at least someone with character whom you can "like" and bash his opposition then he's a bum, even if they ARE Floyd Mayweather Jr FANS will always hate, whether it's your hair, your teeth, your face, your loss count, your trainer, your promoter, your attitude, the way they treated you when you met them, the way their breath smells, something will ALWAYS be wrong in the eyes of a FAN but an analyst? an analyst knows how to put all that aside and focus on the only thing that matters in Boxing, the hands..
Vargas's hands show a WARRIOR and nothing less, he WAS a somebody, deserved all his respect it's just two words that ruined his career, Felix Trinidad, Vargas was never the same afterwards.. analysts can see that because Vargas's hands made that obvious, FANS however will talk about money and who did such and such fight and because he beat him and he beat him that means he can beat him type of shit, not me, I see a warrior in Vargas and if you can't see the same thing I don't know what to tell you.. 100

Vargas is cashed up big time, he wasn't that stupid with his money.
ya can still work and be finacially set. some people dont like sitting on their asses all day. thats why he invested his money so he'll be set for a while.

Hmmm, Well Bill Gates just retired from his job like a year ago,and A-Rod is still doing his job.He could opt out his contract and be comfortable with the money he has obtained from years before.
Awhile back I heard he had about 23million,but he invest in alot of things also. I heard he has his own apartment complex.
he didnt even need to fight Mayorga. i also heard he has a lot of money invested and will be set well finacially. he justed wanted one last fight.
lol that has to be one of the dumbest shit ive ever heard....he is a nobody who became a world champion in 14 fights........and theres noshame in losing to trinidad and de la hoya......even though i dont like vargas, before the wars caught up to him he was very very good....
Vargas put on some good shows in all his losing efforts. That's where you can show him respect even if he never won and was rushed too early. He had the balls to take all the fights even though he was too young, too green, and shouldn't have been in the ring with those fighters just yet. I really feel Tito wrecked him and since that fight he was never the same.
Talent?I thought he was severely overrated.I never understood what was the fuzz about with him.I could name fighters like him that where much better, especially the late Diego Corrales.
How old are you?
Vargas was a very good fighter Just not great, his chin was what let him down. Nothing you do about that.
A bad fighter wouldent Dominate Ike Quartey, beat Winky Wright, Dominate Javier Castellejo,Stop Yori boy Campas stop Rivera go life and death with Trinidad,Delahoya,Mosley. He Just got beat by the best fighters of his generation around his weight class.
As said, Vargas gave every top fighter a challenge. And he was the only one to make Felix Trinidad cry and accept the fact that he was in a very tough fight with Vargas in the post press confrence.
He was more than an average fighter. You don't fight the three best fighters aroudn your weight class of your generation, and give them their toughest bouts (that they won) and consider that an average fighter.
Yes, i agree, that was a turning point. He was rushed quickly.I give him credit because he chose to fight those fighters.U see alot of champions now that dont do that.My thing with Vargas is that i thought he was an average fighter at best.
Explain to me where u saw the talent?Named me his biggest win?He clearly loss to Wright, got a gift decision and his win over Quartey wasnt that much of a win.
he gave trinidad, de la hoya and also mosley in the first fight all they could handle until the stoppages.
Vargas was a good fighter. How many fighters were that good at 22 years old? His defense and chin were not great, and coming along when the other champions were in their primes didn't help either. Trinidad hurt him in more ways than one, and they should have known he wasn't ready for that kind of fighter.
