I got into boxing in November 2005. I was watching ESPN classics and saw this dude destroying everyone in a boxing ring. It was "Iron" Mike Tyson of the 80's that got me hooked. Now Im a boxing crackhead and badly addicted to the sport. I have tons of favorite current and past fighters. I got a bad boxing addiction, and loving every minuet of it!
Thanks "Iron" Mike for bringing me in.
So how long have yall been fans? And what got you into boxing?:boxing:
start him off with exciting and stimulating fights like Tyson or Tua fights. That will get him in love with boxing which is the most important thing. when he gets older, introduce him to the more technical side of boxing with mayweather or calderon fights or any other historical fights.
How about adding to the initiation list:
Sonny Liston-Zora Folley (short but pretty good) along with a number of Floyd Patterson fights, e.g., vs. Rademacher, vs. Johannson (all three), vs. Roy Harris, etc.
But the Patterson-Jimmy Slade fights should be kept out of sight (in the very remote chance that copies still exist). They will bring to naught whatever one may have achieved with the other fights. In the first meeting, Slades purse was held back by the NY Commission (the fight was at the MSG) based on his performance-- he kept on running away (although Patterson KD'd him twice in the first round, and once in the 2nd, 3rd and the 8th-- and final--- round. "You can run but you cannot hide."). The second fight showed the commission's action didn't teach him the lesson that was intended. He learned another. He did a better job of running from Patterson. The latter never caught up with him the whole night.
That gets one thinking: why did they have to fight again?
Anyway...Hagler-Hearns should be there too as should Marciano-Moore, wouldn't you say?
On the technical list, why not add Leonard-Benitez?
Just my few suggestions.

True, dont think id have been impressed wit a Floyd or Ivan back when i didnt know shit!
I kind of remember the days of Ali-Frazier 3, Ali-Spinks, etc...but the first fight I really remember watching was Leonard-Andy Price in 1979.....it was all boxing after that for me.
Oh shit, long time now since i was a pup! Tyson got me hooked too :boxing:
My son is just 2 weeks old but im thinking when he is a bit older what to show him for his 1st fight!? Mabey Louis Schmeling, coz i gave him Louis for his middle name after the Bomber! :boxing: What yall think?
Better show him the second fight. The first one could be a little traumatic for him.

Since December 16th 1995 when I saw my first boxing match live at my cousin's house, I was 14 years old. that match was Mike Tyson vs Buster Mathis Jr. The stunning 3rd round KO made me an instant boxing fan considering I didn't know anything about boxing then, the ko was very attractive to me. This is why boxing needs exciting boxers to attract the fans who haven't watched boxing before and get them hooked.
When I saw Lennox beat Vitali :) j/k
But really, I became a real fan around 2 years ago when I started playing FNR3. That's when I started following boxing.
But when I was a casual fan, I loved vintage Evander Holyfield. Him and Tyson were the only guys I knew that were in boxing.
been a casual fan since 2000 Morales vs Barrera, only watched ppv with my dad, then in 06 i saw juarez vs barrera and wright vs taylor ,i got hooked, probably the most ignorant fan at the time,i actually bought the ppv with ponce de leon, ,then i got more educated,i plan to sell my iPod to go see the Marquez vs Vazquez III fight if i cant come up with the money,:boxing:
grew up watching Pernall Withaker, JCC, de la Hoya, Camacho sr., Mike Tyson. from about 86-96. I wasn't hardcore, I was just a kid watching boxing with my grandfather, family becuase it was a pastime. then I had lost interest and gained back interest watching pacquiao - morales I & II. Now I been in the boxing gym for almost 2 years and boxing is a new found hobby of mines.
