I kind of think that's what they were banking on. Sugar Ray looked a tad dissapointed that Jaidon didn't win the fight when handing the contender belt to Bika.
I truly believe they were hoping Jaidon take the tournament and then parlay a couple wins into an HBO fight kind of taking their credibiltiy up with him. You know, for the Contender champion to be on HBO where he would be expected to win and not a sacrificial lamb. Gomez is helping put them in a place they want to be and I think they are looking for more fighters that are going to place them on the biggest stage possible.
But with guys like Grady Brewer who hasn't even fought, and Sakio Bika, a guy who's not going to beat anyone on HBO, kind of holds the Contender series a little back.
Not to take anything away from Sakio, he fought amazing tonight. But he did that with the help of Jaidon's courage.
I was actually going to put 80 on Sakio , (he was the better underdog) and 20 on the stoppage. Just for the hell of it.... lol.. Pisses me off.
As far as who they wanted, Jaidon. No question. Younger, only one loss and he has a good look about him. In the end though, this fight proves he would have maybe gotten to the big stage, but would have lost anyway. In reality, they didn't want him up there. Just gotta wait til next season. GREAT FIGHT.
My thoughts on the Contender were...wasn't it supposed to showcase up and coming fighters?
Guys like Soliman and Bika have been around the block. Why are the even in the tournament?
To me,the fight looked like a grown man beating a rookie.
either way i hope to see more of Jaidon in the future he is still young only 23 and has a lot to learn maybe he already learned it
I hate to say it, but Jaidon might already be done. Two brutal knockout losses in two years, especially early in your career, is pretty damn tough to overcome (Fernando Vargas, anyone?).
I feel bad for him, not just because of what happened with his father, but because he seems like a genuinely nice guy. But his career - at least as a top threat - might be over before it even began. All due respect to Bika, who fought more aggressive than anytime I've ever seen him, but he's the type that outworks you, and grinds out awkward wins, not the guy that knocks you TFO.
what a fkn joke.................what is this, lets choose who the winner is going to be? we may as well have a wwf contender series....
the contender series is popular from real fighters fighting real fights..........thats why.
if the contender wants certain people to win then they will just lose credibility and fans...
congrats to the best man who wins...
Three words...Bika versus Miranda. Sign me up right now! Jaidon, use your hand speed, power, and reach to box. You may not knock your opponent out in the first four rounds, but you may knock them out in the last four if you break them down. Hooray, the Contender!
For some reason, ever since I heard the finals matchup leaked forever ago, I thought it was a foregone conclusion that Codrington would win. I thought for sure the Contender would pay the judges off or something. There were 2 KOs in that entire tournament, both by Jaidon, I just figured that that is the kind of thing that The Contender wants to be known for, excitement, KOs, etc.
I was shocked by a business standpoint, but not overly surprised that Jaidon didn't actually win the match. I knew he wasn't invincible. I still remember what Allan Green did.
No doubt they were hoping for Cordington to win. For reasons already stated above. Either way it was a great fight. Almost seemed fake, like a Rocky movie.
They probably would have preferred if Jaidon was the guy coming away as the winner and unquestioned face of the series, but they can't be too disappointed tonight. The greatness of that fight has to help the series in and of itself, and Codrington, who gained respect in defeat, still seems to have a bright future in the sport.
i knew BIKA had the experience and hunger to beat jaidon, but if jaidon won i knew it was gonna have to be by a KO win.
yeah its kinda a disadvantage that BIKA cant really speak english that well i mean they added writing to clarify what the F he said all season.
the producers were really trying to have the storybook ending with jaidons fathers death and all.
all in all it was a bad asssssssss fight and both fighters got mad love respect tonight.
but yeah i agree they could of milked more from a jaidon win hands down!
but Bika did have the hottest wife in the season tho lol
yea she is fine... lmao.
What I mean is....if HBO comes calling for Bika (again), it's going to be a role where as he's the "opponent" and likely overmatched/outclassed.
I think after a couple building victories on ESPN against some gate-keepers, HBO might have brought him in as the marquee name.
yea would of been more of a happy ending liek a movie if Jaidon won no doubt..
But he changed the rules by falling into bikas game.. instead of boxing his way to easy victory... but it was entertaining, and I think he has built up more respect with this exciting loss rather than a boring win.. but he will be back and get alot better..
