It was interesting to read up on these boxers. They were all pretty great in the ring…
I have to go with Hagler however because he was the best I ever seen with my own eyes.
What happens if Pavlik kncoks Taylor out again, then kos Abraham? Would he be close to the aforementioned greats?
If he keeps winning...surely. But, he's got a long way to go to be talked about in historical fashion.
Going by the records you would have to put Greb first without a doubt. But, since I have never seen him fight I rate Greb in my mythical first spot with Monzon in my 'fighters who I've seen' first spot. Followed closely by Hagler.
I remember when I first saw Monzon fight. My dad had told me what a great fighter he was and then when I saw a tape of his fights with Valdes he looked so rangy and awkward. I thought this guy can't be as good as he was saying, he looks like he's about to get KO'ed. Of course he didn't and over the years after watching many fights of his....The guy was incredible. He had it all. Good defense, stiff jab with a great powerful right hand. He could also take a good punch. Monzon No.1
Except for great competition (only Roy Jones Jr, who he lost to,) and no Oscar and Tito are not GREAT middleweights.
I know this, which is why, despite his 20 title defenses, I rate him below the other guys, at the #5 spot. Others at MW have better wins as well, such as someone like Fullmer, but in a head to head sense, and in a sense of how he dominated his era(weak as it was) he outranks those guys. As well as on consistency.
He's boring now as his body has deteriorated to the point where he relies on his craftiness, experience, and pure boxing skill, but in his prime he had it all.

yeah, I'm not putting Hopkins down at all. he is unbelievable. Just second to Hagler in the MW all time rankings. Like you said though, both in their prime would be an awesome fight.
Well not sure about Hopkins being second all time, but otherwise yeah. Monzon in my books rates slightly above Hagler.
1. Greb(feel free to ask or put anyone ahead of him, I understand this pick is a hard one)
2. Monzon
3. Hagler
4. Robinson
5. Hopkins
I would take Hopkins over Robinson head to head believe it or not, being as Robinson was smaller and a better WW than a MW, but his resume, even being past his prime at the weight, was better than Hopkins's easily.
A prime Hopkins in a head to head sense could be argued just as good, but his resume is not as good at all at MW. Hagler outranks him, but in a head to head matchup, that is one I've heard argued from all angles quite well.
A prime Hopkins of say the Johnson fight vs a Hagler of the Sibson fight. What a matchup.

the ugly boring toothless wonder is a great fighter. let's not deny that.
hopkins lacks the resume at middleweight of some of the other great ones, but he is indeed a special fighter.

Anybody who says B-Hop are either under 18 years old of have never seen Hagler fight.
Good thread :fing02:

My favorite middleweight is marvin hagler, however judging by record I would have to say Monzon. Now I have never seen a Monzon fight so I am gonna judge it by record instead of favoritism and say Monzon, damn is his record impressive!..
Why not have a look at Greb's record? Best in the whole history of boxing.

Boy, are you wrong... So was I, for that matter...
Lol yea same here bud, but its good to see some people have some sense and not just saying Robinson to "fit it". I mean I rly dont know cause Hagler, SRR, and Monzon are easily ATG and all deserve a nod at the GOAT of MW. Hell I flipped a coin w/ Halger Monzon... .
