"I am going to train with Barrera in Mexico," says unbeaten WBA super featherweight champion Edwin Valero (20-0, 20 KOs). Barrera (63-5, 42 KOs) a former WBC champion at the same weight is preparing for his rematch against Manny Pacquiao on October 6 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Valero, who will be defending his crown in November, considers that working with Barrera will also help him a lot in his training. Barrera is curently training at the Golden Gym in Guadalajara with his team consisting of Jorge Barrera (brother), Fermín Hernández, Rudy Pérez and Sendai Tanaka. Valero has also denied published reports out of his howntown of Merida, Venezuela, that he recently suffered facial injuries in a knife attack. The champion plans to attend a fight card in Vigia, Venezuela this weekend to see Venezuelan prospects Frankie and Jose Luis Varela in action, and will leave for Mexico on September 11.
Haha, I think Valero sparring with Morales weakened Morales for the fight with Manny. He really got the best of Morales in the sparring session. This could be a bad thing for Barrera if he takes a beating in there. LoL, but yeah otherwise it's a great choice and probably the best sparring partner he could possibly get for a guy like Manny. Also Valero's speed is underrated. There's some vids of him where you can't even see the punch that KOed his opponent until slow motion replay.
valero sparred morales in preparation for his first fight with pac, that fight did not show any weakening of erik...
i say its a good move for barerra and i only expect to see a war!!
This fight could help Marco, but on the other hand, this could also diminish him as a fighter. He's fighting a no-nonsense puncher who could possibly inflict more damage in sparring than fighting Morales in a war.
I don't think this is a good idea at all. Valero doesn't hold back in sparring.
Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or is there a Barrera training related thread here? At first glance I figured I'd click on it and then read.....
But he's still getting KO'd by Pac!! :lol1:
Anyway, this is great news. Marco seems to have the best sparring partner he can get to help emulate Pac's power and style well. A few minor adjustments and I think Barrera will be ready for Pac in no time. I really hope Marco wins, not because I don't like Pac, because I do. But I just really want to see him get his vindication and go out on top.

He won his fight with manny where he got valero to sparr with him. But, yeah he paid a price in sparring.
I just don't see how a guy like Valero can help Marco train for Pac...Test Barrera's chin a couple of times???
You're only as good as the person you sparr. What im trying to say is, in boxing for you to improve, you should be sparring with good fighters if not fighters that are better then you in order for you to improve.
In this Barrera is fighting one of the best in his division, and this will only improve Barrera. Valero doesn't take sparring light, so Barrera will be in great shape and most improtantly he will mentaly be very tough, and very tough to beat come fight night.

um...Valeros also a southpaw, hes also a top 10 super featherweight, he also hits hard as hell, he also is a slugger, he also relies predominantly on the left hand to do the most damage. hes slower than Pacquiao, but I remember hearing that Barrera has some 'fast Japanese southpaws' that are supposed to help emulate Pacquiao's speed.
Barrera must really be training his ass off. this is the first news weve heard of him in training, hes probebly isolated and now he has this level of sparring partners? good signs...this is going to be an excellent fight.
and good **** guy that said the sparring sessions should be ppv, hahah!
