Get a title at welter, move to middle, and get one, and then to supermiddle and get one??
RJJ is 5'11"..and a reach of 74...Toney is 5'10" and a reach of 72, and they both moved up...Williams is 6'1", and a reach of 84.....Do you think he can clean house at 3 weight divisions??
final note....
why do u guys think boxing has a scoring system
the scoring system is set to determine the winner in kase a knockout
doesnt end it, u dont need power to become a successful boxer, u kan outpoint your opponents such as mayweather is doing now since he moved up to 147-154 and winky wright has been doing since 154 up to 160
williams may lack power but it isnt necessarry because he earns enough points to secure his victory, hate on him if u want, this kid is the real deal
look forward to him being the most ducked opponent since margarito
I don't understand, Margarito isn't my "hero" and never has been. Williams didn't impress me overly. He threw a million punches, none of which were powerful, he lacks defense and while he looked OK when he was jabbing from the outside he spent most of the fight looking flustered and hurt. He landed more punches by far but this was not an amateur contest. The aim isn't to outland your opponent...
boxing is judged on three characteristics
affective aggressiveness
clean/accurate punching
ring generalship
if u watched the fight u would kno that williams was the affective aggressor not just visually but statistically, he dominated with triple and quadruple jabs + straight lefts to the body
clean accurate punching , went to williams with his combos again, margarito was way off with looping shots and statiscally again williams got the upper hand
ring generalship easily went to williams who was moving in and out spinning around and pushing margarito off when the clinched
your points are so biased and unreal i dont kno why im wasting time to talk about this, when did boxing become a power shot only sport? the fight was quite simple, margarito hit and got hit, paul williams hit and got hit, williams landed more hits, therefore he won...simple as that, they did the same thing (in your eyes only) although you would argue margarito landed the "harder shots" but what's better 1 hard shot (that doesn't knock out wobble or hurt an opponent) or 10 jabs and straights that keep your opponent at bay
grow up and give williams credit
he outboxed margarito took his best shots
outlanded and outworked him and sent him home
title less
Winky doesn't win by pressuring his opponents, he wins by not getting hit. Williams has no power and gets hit frequently.
that explains williams outlanding margarito
williams kan take 10 shots but he will give 20 in return, he will always win with that stat
also, winky doesnt get hit?
when winky stepped up and fought a hard strong fighter (jermain taylor)
he got hit more than he ever had been hit in his career (sam soliman did this also) but jermain's power left scuff marks all over winky's face even with the
peek a boo defense he stole from ike quartey, anyways power = shit when u kan outland ur opponent and not get hurt by their best shot (which williams did recieve from margarito, HIS BEST SHOTS) williams kept coming forward, u didnt see him on his bike ala mayweather/hopkins/de la hoya
margarito was a tough power puncher and if williams kan take his punch he kant take anybodys
stop hating on the kid, he is similar to winky wright in that wut he does is simple but it works for him and he will win until someone kan outwork him or knock him out
Quit lying to yourself and admit your sorry as can be hero just got his ass beat

Although his size is a helping hand in this he would really have to improve alot!!!
Williams is no RJJ or Toney!!! He might make it to Mw if he is lucky but i cant see him being half as good as roy and james!!!
On boxrec, they say that paul williams has longer arms then wlads... What a freak of nature, and the only reason he sticks in the welter-weight division is because it's the only division he'd have some what of power in.
its not really the arms, they measure from the finger tip straight across the back to the other finger tip on the other arm..
Audley Harrison - 86”
Paul Williams - 82”
I don't think his punches are that soft. A guy who's 6'1 should have some power, he just needs to put more snap into it. He did well against Margarito and he looks like he's improving after every fight. Does anyone know his amateur career?
:omfg: Wiki says 20-25 fights
His arms are not coordinated with his body movement when he punches. That's what I meant. That's why he has no power or balance.

Any middleweight is simply going to take his flurries to land hard punches. Could you see Kelly Pavlik being fazed by those pitty-pat shots? At 147 and perhaps at 154 he has massive physical advantages. Beyond that what's his advantage? His workrate is all he has going for him, he isn't polished enough to be a pure boxer and his punches don't have enough on them for him to be a pressure fighter.
winky is a pressure fighter
with NO power
Do we have to turn this into a science lesson?
If I have two Broomsticks, Broomstick A measures 3 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter.........and Broomstick B measures 2 and 1/2 feet in length and 10 inches in diameter which one is bigger?
Remember Big = Mass. Big (unequal symbol) length.
If I had a broomstick that was 10" around and 2 1/2' in length I would burn it and then buy a new one...
How do you win in boxing? What is the number one aim of the sport of professional boxing? It is to render your opponent unable to continue by hitting them. Some guys seem to think that knockouts are an unnecessary part of boxing, a side effect rather than the number one aim.
so why does boxing have a scoring system with points given for the following reasons:
ring generalship
effective aggressiveness
accurate/clean punching....
SO UR TELLING ME IF A MAN IS SUCCESSFULLY DOING THE FOLLOWING 3, LIGHT YEARS BETTER THAN THE OTHER MAN BUT STILL DOESNT KNOCK HIM OUT....THE OTHER GUY SHOULD GET THE VICTORY BASED ON THE FACT THAT HE WASNT KNOCKED OUT....
cmon man this is boxing = the sweet science = hit and not get hit
its chess not checkers, u want brawls please see your local drunken bar

LOl I don't think he can gain much weight.
He's just one of them people who is naturally going to be extremely skinny until late in life when his metabolism slows down or he will just stay the same for the rest of his life .
You can tell that he doesn't gain muscle very easily but muscle isn't always needed to add power, look at Tommas Hearns, Sandy Sadler,Stanley Ketchel,Jimmy Wilde and Bob Foster, all of them were bone thin but had massive power so you never know he might start to show some later on.

Shit, his arms are as big as wlad who is 6'7. .
Haha no no they aren't.
Wlad's arms are bigger around than Paul Williams torso is.

Williams is sacrificing using power to maintain that ridiculous 100+ punch per round output. i.e. he's fighting like that on purpose. He's not sitting on any of his straight punches and letting them rip hard like a tall guy should. He's constantly moving. Even Manny commented on him not really having his gloves closed when he was pseudo flurrying. I think it's more of the case of him not relying on power than him not having any. I would actually rather he abandon the high output style because if all it will get you is a close decision with a tough, hard hitting opponent than you need to settle down and put some more "umph" in there.
Winky Wright is a much better boxer, on an off day, than Williams can ever think of being. Besides that, Wright throws clean, correct punches but doesn't put much behind them. This kid doiesn't throw a punch that even LOOKS respectable. And he's extremely featherfisted at WW, at middle he'd be the lightest puncher ever to fight professionally at the weight.
Interesting...I'd like to see Duddy and him at middleweights, duddy gets it, but he likes to come at guys that do not hit hard enough
