Believe me, the US is a far more racially charged society. In the UK, most fight fans will follow boxers of all creeds and colours as long as they're British. Nigel Benn and Frank Bruno were two very popular boxers and the atmosphere at their fights was very similar to Hatton fights. Likewise Amir Khan is probably the most recognisable boxer in the country and is a major draw (thousands would follow him abroad).

i remember hearing the 'lewis,lewis,lewis'chants in teh Lewis holyfield fight in the US...the fact that the brits were out'singin'the holyfield or american fight fans,agains shows you havnt got a clue what your talking about...a country that would easily fit within the state of texas,bringin over thousands upnoe thousands to support their fighter ,paing thousands at a time for flights ,tickets,and accomodation....and you seem to think its all because RH is hite,and no black british boxer has felt the saem support?....racism is a problem in the UK,but maybe not as bad as the US if you come to such conclusions using your own experience of Race in your own country. This is Bullshit..Frank Bruno was,and probably still is the most famous british boxer of the modern era....you'd hear chants of 'bruno,brunofrom10'sof thousands of fans....just incase u dnt understand...Bruno is black....the reason why RH gets so much support is...becuase he'slike your everyday guy..and i know its a cliche to say it..but if you've ever been in his company,he doesnt harp on about how great he is,or how he is better then this guy or that guy, or what he'dd to this guy...he's very humble..and very decent...he doesnt live in a mansoin or drive a flashy car, or wear lots of bling,or disresepct people for the sake of it.....if you stil find it hard to see why he has such a strong fan base,then my friend you are what is most commonly known as a MORON!

I couldn't help but notice that Lennox Lewis never drew that kind of support, despite being a much more accomplished boxer. Of course, that on its own means little. But if you add in some of the overt racist behaviours both in the stands and on the pitch in many UK cities, it does lead one to wonder if the British sports culture has become somewhat divided. I don't think there can be any doubt that people feel greater affection for people they can relate to and I would like to think that Hatton's popularity is more to do with his personality and talent than his skin colour.
