anyone see in the Hatton.Castillo prefight montage the guy in the casino that called the hooters girl 'rubbish?'
Real classy...
The way Hattons UK fans adore him is kinda creepy. 11,000 tickets bought by Brits and flew over? The airports must have been insane. Hatton Wonderland...lol.
Saxon,
Is it possible that it has something to do with skin color?
Boxing support in the UK is often nationally motivated.
Boxing support in the US is often racially motivated.
Believe me, the US is a far more racially charged society.
In the UK, most fight fans will follow boxers of all creeds and colours as long as they're British. Nigel Benn and Frank Bruno were two very popular boxers and the atmosphere at their fights was very similar to Hatton fights. Likewise Amir Khan is probably the most recognisable boxer in the country and is a major draw (thousands would follow him abroad).
By calling a hot girl rubbish cuz shes not a brit?
Ok F*ck face...care to tell us all where the girls nationality came nito it..did the guy explicitly say the girl was rubbish because she wasnt a Brit?........or is this just you hating on Brits....im guessing its the latter......grow up cock muncher
i remember hearing the 'lewis, lewis, lewis'chants in teh Lewis holyfield fight in the US...the fact that the brits were out'singin'the holyfield or american fight fans, agains shows you havnt got a clue what your talking about...a country that would easily fit within the state of texas, bringin over thousands upnoe thousands to support their fighter ,paing thousands at a time for flights ,tickets, and accomodation....and you seem to think its all because RH is hite, and no black british boxer has felt the saem support?....racism is a problem in the UK,but maybe not as bad as the US if you come to such conclusions using your own experience of Race in your own country.
Good post mate you see where the supports coming from and how good it is.Like I say how many other mationalities travel the world in those numbers to cheer their fighters on???? none thats how many.
Yeah but Joey Barton is playing for Newcastle now and he's a total fuckchops!
I think the reason that Hatton has such a huge following is that people can relate to him. He's an ugly little son of a carpet fitter who likes to go on the razz and cracks jokes all the time. He's likeable. Calzaghe is a bit impetuous, Naz was never going to have mass appeal because he never made the right noises to be a British fighter, he was always identifying himself with other muslims primarily, which serves to alienate non-muslims. Amir Khan is pretty popular and he'll get a reasonable following if he steps up his game, because he identifies with being British. Khan is different than Naz because Khan calls himself a British muslim, Naz was a muslim who lived in Britain.
And Lennox Lewis was always viewed with suspicion. Noone knows where his loyalties lay. The most beloved boxer in Britain when I was a kid?

When the Sun newspaper decided to run a mocking headline of him about his mental problems there was such a wave of outrage that the very next issue they changed their tone from condesention to sympathy in double quick time.
It isn't anything to do with skin colour.
Yeah Bartons a knob but that dont make me racist!!!

This is Bullshit..Frank Bruno was,and probably still is the most famous british boxer of the modern era....you'd hear chants of 'bruno,brunofrom10'sof thousands of fans....just incase u dnt understand...Bruno is black....the reason why RH gets so much support is...becuase he'slike your everyday guy..and i know its a cliche to say it..but if you've ever been in his company,he doesnt harp on about how great he is,or how he is better then this guy or that guy, or what he'dd to this guy...he's very humble..and very decent...he doesnt live in a mansoin or drive a flashy car, or wear lots of bling,or disresepct people for the sake of it.....if you stil find it hard to see why he has such a strong fan base, then my friend you are what is most commonly known as a MORON!
Im Sorry Man But I Think The Best Fans In The World Are The Puerto Ricans I Havent Seen No Fans Compare To Them.
Yea right, there is not one rican in my family who would fly to LA to see miguel cotto fight.
Colour dont come into it for me, i'll shout and cheer anyone regardless of their colour if I think their good. Obefami Martins plays for Newcastle I cheer him as loudly as I do any other sports star I like.

yea just so long as he don't move in next to you
WTF are you for real?? I've loadsa Black,Asian, and Oriental friends. I take people for who they are not their skin colour.
I guess Calzaghe will be more popular in Wales then Hatton though, but that doesnt make the Welsh racist. It makes them patriotic and theres a difference.
I agree .

So, it is not POSSIBLE that the fanbase that RH has that travels around with him is due in part to him being white?
I couldn't help but notice that Lennox Lewis never drew that kind of support, despite being a much more accomplished boxer.
Of course, that on its own means little. But if you add in some of the overt racist behaviours both in the stands and on the pitch in many UK cities, it does lead one to wonder if the British sports culture has become somewhat divided.
I don't think there can be any doubt that people feel greater affection for people they can relate to and I would like to think that Hatton's popularity is more to do with his personality and talent than his skin colour. Hatton is also more popular than Calzaghe and I think that goes to show how important personality is.

It hasnt become divided at all, Lewis was Canadian.

yes and no...
do you support junior witter? do you support clinton woods?
Good point mate no not to that extent but they still would have fans follow them to the States to see them fight.
