This fight did not come close to living up to the hype! No matter who you argue who won or who lost the reality is we the fans who actipated and looked so forward to this fight. LOST in a big way!
I am eating crow right now for those guys who said they would not order because it would be a snorefest. I honestly could have went without watching it and wouldnt have missed anything.
PBF did not want to engage. Like he said he would. but he ran more than an olympic sprinter.
Oscar made this fight. HE wanted Pretty Boy Fast runner to fight. This fight is a huge letdown!
The guys who were saying this was an exciting fight are lying to themselves.
It was so disappointing that i am a hardcore boxing fan and it has lessen my desire to follow boxing seriously. Just think what it did to the casual fans who tuned in.
Miranda vs pavlik (which I have tickets to attend) cotto vs judah, hopkins vs wright
none of them seem appealing to me anymore. this fight was that disappointing
The fight was a letdown because of all the hype and talk that was going on about this fight. I've seen Mayweather fight many times and this is what I expected. I didn't think it was going to be this close though and thats what made it exciting for me going into the final four rounds. I know people wanted to see a slugfest, which I did as well, but I also knew both are good boxers and it was probably going to be a technical fight. Which it turned out to be. It turned out how i was aniticipating, but what made the fight good for me was that it was competitive.
PBF is the more skilled fighter. But his actions did not back up his words. Also, Oscar did not fight his best. They both gave an 85% effort.
I respect them both for getting in the ring. But there is no question this fight was somewhat of a letdown.
did u pick DLH to win?
i think thats why ur makin up excusses lol
actually i WANTED DLH to win but I would have rather PBF win a great fight then DLH win in a boring fight. Boxing needed this fight and this was one of the most anticipated fights for me of all time. Along the lines of Holyfield-tyson, lewis-tyson, tarver-jones 2
But the fight was hugely disappointing. I have seen sparing sessions more exciting. PBF ran how can you guys not admit that. If fans knew PBF would fight like that this fight would have not sold half as much.
THE FANS IN THE ARENA BOOED THROUGHTOUT THE FIGHT!
(still no one else has acknowledged that)
yall can say whatever and laugh and stuff. but the fact remains this fight hurt boxing. plus if PBF would have knocked down or even tried to knock out oscar it would be different.
allen green vs edison miranda wasnt a hagler/hearns castillo/corrales fight but it was exciting
corrales vs clottey or mosley vs collazo or MAB vs diaz all werent brawls but they were exciting fights because the fighters fought and went after each other
PBF was running the whole fight point blank period. this will not go down as a top 10 fight of the year
I understand....but I can't say I agree. So many people like the man solely for being undefeated. The moment he loses half the fans will forsake him. Does that make sense? You have to respect that he can take a bigger, stronger, more experienced (in big opponent fights) boxer like De la Hoya and land at a three time higher connect percentage while not throwing as many punches. If he hadn't been fighting Oscar people would be saying he won a pretty easy victory, if in a close fight.
I scored the fight a draw, I dont think any one would have said he won an easy victory. You are correct about expectations. Floyd will never stand and fight at this weight class or even welter but 140 and down were his best classes. He should be given lots of credit for fighting smart but lets be honest Floyd has finally shown that when he fights A level guys, at least at this weight that he is limited to pot shotting and backwards movement. If he would have mixed it up early on with Oscar he probably would have taken enough shots to throw him off his gameplan or get him hurt. He realized this quickly and adjusted back to his new/old style of run and gun. Look I dont have that big of a problem with the decision but I am tired of watching Floyd's "Risk Management" style of boxing. This fight should also stop all of the fan boy's callin PBF a GOAT. He just doesnt possess the power, will to impose himself on opponents that is needed to even get close to that level. He did what was expected but has still yet to put on an exceptional performance against evenly matched opposition.
i hate to use this over used phrase but anyone who thoguht this would be a brawl before the fight doesn't know boxing or the fighters involved. Flyd is a defensive counter puncher and Oscar is a boxer puncher, not a brawler. Styles make fights and these styles do not equal Hagler/ Hearns II.
but in each of those sports the athelets will not preform just beacause they don't feel like it.
PBF dose wht is needed 2 win, again a STRATEGY!!!!!!! show me how he runs honestly man, So Ali Ran,SRL ran. stick and move is his strategy running is completly differnt thing
dude please dont insult my intelligence. there is a big difference between running the whole fight and stcking and move via strategy. if Ali fought like PBF fought last night there would have never been the fight of the millenium or the rumble in the jungle.
PBF did not want to engage at all. and i didnt say in other sports what if they didnt feel like it even if they did those things using strategy you wouldnt watch it.
I would never pay to see another maywether fight. I appreciate the sweet science but you have to the draw the line somewhere. The guy simply doesn't like to fight. I'm just glad that the most I paid for this was $7...lol
I wasn't expecting a slugfest or anything close to it but I atleast wanted to see these guys square up and thrown down for atleast 2 or 3 rounds to prove a point. The 24/7 series was better than this fight if you can call it one.
What a waste of a Saturday night.
yes i understand about the fans losing the fight,it was a boxed fight,it may be boring. He did not run,its called stick and move, strategy, would u stand in front of a fighter with DLH's power?
c'mon now bro think if he would have ran he would not have won the fight
would you want to watch a world series where managers didnt put their top pitchers in or the batters didnt want to go for a homerun or didnt swing as hard. would you watch a nba playoff game where the coaches dont put their best players or the players didnt want to play hard because they are scared?
would you want to watch the daytona 500 if the racers drove slow because it may be dangerous? would you watch the super bowl if the players said they would not try and score?
so why do you expect fans to want to watch boxing if the fighter doesn't want to engage and actually fight?
this was the super bowl of boxing one of the biggest fights in the last 10 yrs. and only one fighter wanted to fight and that was oscar de la hoya.
this fight ultimely HURT boxing!
i will go as far as saying i think this fight HURT boxing more than it HELPED!
Like I said I had a nice trip to memphis (for the miranda-pavlik jermaine taylor card) planned. and i am so disinterested in boxing right now that i am no where near as exciting as i was for upcoming fights. and i am hardcore boxing fan.
so do you think this fight will cause casual fans to tune in to boxing after seeing this garbage
I thought it was a good fight. Both guys fought well and showed us some high skill boxing. Normally Floyd toys with his opponents, but I think this was his most difficult fight, besides his first one with Castillo. His first fight with Castillo was more the way he chose to fight, rather than how he could have fought and won easily. With Oscar, he really did have rounds where he struggled and lost. That is probably the best challenge you'll ever see Floyd face, unless he moves up to an even bigger weight class or fights to a point where his reflexes start to diminish.
The problem is, this is not the super fight to appeal to casual viewers. The type of fight you need to sell the sport to new people is a fast-paced action fight. So anyone that thought this fight was going to save boxing was probably dead wrong.
this is it then, you agreed so the rest of your long and boring post meant nothing but, "i wished de la hoya won, but he lost so now the fight sucked." answer me this, what if oscar won the fight, how would you have felt?
honestly and as the final scorecards were being read i was hoping for dlh to get the win. And that was only because PBF fought like a bitch. I was hugely disappointed in this fight regardless of the winner. because like i said the fans ultimately lost in this fight. i dont know how some of you can say this fight was exciting....well some people find watching flowers pollunating on the discovery channel is exciting.
i gaurantee you 95% of the ppl watching esp. the casual fans were thorughly bored watching this fight. PBF ran and ran and would have been happy not engaging or going toe to toe.
I never expected a gatti-ward type fight but like i said if these were some no name fighters fighting on espn's friday night fights like this all of you would have changed the channel because the fight was boring.
the damn fans who where in the action-packed exciting arena BOOED several times during the fight.
i answered your question now answer mines what does the fans boing throughout the fight tell you?
i agree but why did PBF act like he was going to battle? he ran like a lil bitch and didnt want to fight. he is the pound for pound best sprinter int he game lolthis is it then, you agreed so the rest of your long and boring post meant nothing but, "i wished de la hoya won, but he lost so now the fight sucked." answer me this, what if oscar won the fight, how would you have felt?
I totally diagree with this post. I thought it was an exciting fight, won by Mayweather. Maybe there were no knockdowns or cuts, but it was an exciting match to watch two legends face eachother.
Please this fight was all about money. I was never hyped up for this fight, if Mayweather wanted to add something to his legacy and still get the big money, he would of fought Mosley, Margarito, or someone worthy. Oscar looked like a shell of his former self in this fight, he hasn't fought in a year, and was just looking for a payday.
^^^ yeah at the end of the day mayweather gets my props for never losing but im just not a fan of his style.....
I understand....but I can't say I agree. So many people like the man solely for being undefeated. The moment he loses half the fans will forsake him. Does that make sense?
