Honestly i think DLH is overrated. Sure he has been in MEGA fights. But howmany has he won? When he has faced competition in their primes--he lost. 2x to Mosely, Trinidad, and Hopkins. I'll go as far to say, who has he really beaten since '99? JCC(2x),Vargas, Mayorga? Is that it? I dont know why he is considered the "cash cow" of boxing when he hardly ever "WINS" the fight. Also, throw in the Sturm fight(which was a gift) how many fights has he actually won, this century? in a word DLH is overrated---comments, please
Now I know you are just typing bullshit. You must be just taking up boxing if you think DLH needed to cheat to win against Mayorga. At least if you wanted to point out a fight that might have been fixed (which I don't believe it was), bring up the Hopkins fight.
It's clear this joker doesn't know what he's talking about. Just another fool who needs a few rounds in the gym.
i even think that fight was fixed! I have never seen a fighter not even move his head when he is looking at someone punching at him. DLH didnt miss with his right. you would think that after u get hit with the same punch for 4 rds, u would atleast move ur head. the fix was on! the one punch that Mayorga did throw and connect actually rocked DLH for a hot second. then he remembered he was there to lose, so he started looking to run his face into that right hand again

Ive never seen the "destroyd" column. i have only seen wins, losses, draws, and No Contests. it dont matter how bad you lose, if you lost u just lost. and im mainly talking about his big fights. DLH is a good fighter and im not denying that. but not a great in my opinion.
Ricardo Mayorga
Fernando Vargas
Arturo Gatti
Luis Ramon 'Yory Boy' Campas
Derrell Colley
Javier Castillejo
And these are good fighters by whose standards? Mayorga beat Forrest and Six heads Lews. Vargas was gifted against Winky. the other names on there are people who was perfect for DLH. Stand in front and slug it out with him. If those are the only names u can come up with in 7 yrs then that proves my point. Yori Boy Campas---yea right!
You cant have 2 standards on different fighters. I understand that you don't like Oscar, but if you only care about W L D or NC, then it should apply to every fighter.
i've been saying this for awhile now. sure he was good, very good at times but like you said he came up short (or should of whittaker, quartey, and sturm) in every mega fight.
This is being biased. Your saying he should have came up short against Whitaker, Quartey, and Sturm, but you have not mentioned that he should definitely have a win against Trinidad in their first fight, and probably should have a win against Mosely in their second fight. It is very unfair to take all of a fighter's close fights and say he should have lost them. In my opinion he should have lost to Sturm, but I agree with him getting the decisions against Whitaker and Quartey. I definately don't agree with the Trinidad loss and I also think he beat Mosely the second time.
De La Hoya has a lot of very impressive wins. He isn't as far past his peak as many think. I think that in the past 5 years the Sturm fight is the only one where he looked really bad. All of his other recent fights in my opinion he has been impressive in. The Sturm fight he was in embarassing physical condition.
yea mayorga did a double layout with a cork screw spin off the 10meter platform in that fight...lol
Your making a fool of yourself. You just need to be better informed about boxing. Who on this site is claiming DLH to the greatest?
I don't understand why Mayorga beating Forrest (twice) doesn't make him good opposition. Mayorga was the world champion who had whooped Forrest twice. Yory Boy Campas rocked Felix Trinidad and fought him closely (albeit until being knocked out). Vargas beat Wright. The books have it as an L for Wright. Vargas beat Wright. And Besides, why are you looking for De La Hoya's best proformances here post 2000? Thats just stupid. Its obvious that his best years are past him, no one is denying that. No one is even rating him THAT highly. No one is saying he is pound-for-pound best. He isn't even on Boxrec's 25 P4P. He is good though. And he will beat Floyd Mayweather.
what evidence have u seen from DLH in the past 7 yrs(which is why i said post 2000) that makes u think he will beat PBF? answer me this...in the first Mosely fight, early on Mosely was moving side to side and DLH was evenclose. mid rds was when he stopped moving and DLH started throwing those "swing but dont hit anything flurries" and was getting credit for inflicting damage and not even landing. late rds Mosely started to box again and that was when the fight was over. If PBF stand there and tries to slug it out like Mosely did in their 2nd fight, he stands a better chance of losing. but if he boxes(which im sure he will) it will be a long night for DLH. but im not trainer or expet in this game, its just my opinion

You're silly. Look at the clip of the first-round hook. His head snaps back. If you take a dive you DON'T do it like that. You take a grazer to the temple and go down.
LOL...not Mayorga. The guy lets u get clean shots on him in the midst of the fight! look at the fight. did he even try to avoid any of the punches DLH threw? or try to throw any of his own? when he took his robe off his body was completely dry(not warmed up at all). for Mayorga that could have been a career defining win, and ur not warmed up b4 the fight. what the hell were u doing in the lockeroom? checking ur bank account to see if DLH transferred the funds to his account...lol

No of course not. But when anyone says that they are in fact referring to the first round.
Edit: I never uttered that phrase myself.

was that the end of the fight?

I don't understand how many more good fighters you are meant to beat in Seven years. He kicked off the century by beating Derrell Coley who was 34-1 even though he is not a big name. Beat Arturo Gatti. Beat Javier Castillejo. Knocked out Vargas. Knocked out Yory Boy. Beat Sturm and most recently he knocked out Mayorga. Yes, he has had 3/4 of his losses in the new millenium, but just as you say that he was given the Sturm fight, one can just as easily say that he won the Trinidad fight. And the first Mosley fight... and the second Mosley fight. Trinidad fight was an MD, the first Mosley fight was a split desicion (obviously both very close) and I think everyone (even Sugar Shane Mosley) agrees that De La Hoya won the second one. Infact, De La Hoya's only real loss was being unquestionably knocked out. So while it is fine for you to think that he is over-rated, or that he was gifted the Sturm fight, or the Whitaker fight or the Quartey fight or whatever, it is ridiculous to say he is over-rated.
Ricardo Mayorga
Fernando Vargas
Arturo Gatti
Luis Ramon 'Yory Boy' Campas
Derrell Colley

What more is a man meant to do? And this is only within the last 7 years! With the better part of two taken off...
