What if Tyson....

He was knocked out; there was no way he was going to be right to fight after ten seconds. I assume this has been said a bunch of times.

Utter B*llocks! Tyson was out on his feet! It was instinct and heart that made him reach for the gumshield and get back to his feet. When Douglas went down he did benefit from the long count but he knew where he was. He wasn't KO'd like Tyson but he took full advantage of the count. It was heart that made him get up to his feet and i am saying he was out on his feet, but he still had the senses to know he had to beat the count. And he knew where his gumshield was. But once on his feet he was helpless anyway. If he tried to move while on his feet he would have been doing a funny dance like Berbick. So what i am saying is that, even if he didnt try to get his gumshield he may have beaten the count but would have been helpless anyway.

He was in another world! If the ref let him go on 1 or 2 punches from Buster woulda dropped him again - no question! He has shown the ability to come back from being hurt like in the Bruno 1 fight in that 1st round and even in this fight he came back from being hurt to (in some peoples eyes, not mine) KO Buster. End of day im glad it got stopped Mike coulda been seriously hurt!

When Tyson went reaching for his gumshied he had his senses and it was an excuse to waste time. He knew if he got up his feet would be doing a funny dance like Trevor Berbick did agaisnt him and his legs would have failed him. Buster did seem to have a longish count but it would have been an injustice if he had lost to that uppercut because Buster was dominating up to then. Utter B*llocks! Tyson was out on his feet! Arguably the isolation of Douglas' focused preperation, both mentally and physically, ensured that bout's place in history as much as Tyson fall from grace did, and therefore - Douglas' place in history is greater for the surrounding failings because of, rather than despite, them. Had Douglas been a more legitimate threat, i.e. had a stronger form line before or after, I'm not sure that performance would have stood out with the same luminance. The beauty is created by the ugliness of his surrounding career.

There was no way Tyson would have even been able to decide whether or not to put his mouthpiece in; he was out of it. And in the event that he managed to get up and fool the ref into letting him fight, he would have been ko'ed again. Douglas fought the fight of his life, and there arent many heavyweights around that would have been able to beat him that night. It's a shame, cuz Douglas had some talent, he just never took training serious, with the exception of that one time and it got him cemented in boxing history.

Tyson was done. There and then. Never got back to 50% of his performance level again. From then on it was pure myth making. Fuelling a dying fire.

the fight should have been over in the 8th round when tyson knocked him down..that was the slowest count ive ever seen..but douglas would have finished him that same round if tyson got up exactly what i'm sayin....that ref gave buster a slow ass count...and i thought the same shit about the mouthpiece...he was strugglin ta pick that shit up and wasted time but he was out of it...and buster would've and should've taken advantage of it

Then the ref either stops it as Tyson is gets to his feet but is clearly out of it, or he lets it go on and Buster finishes him brutally. Tyson was done.

Tyson never showed the ability to comeback after being hurt??? Depends in what sense you mean. Was he not put on his arse by Holyfield in the 1st fight then? He got up and continued after that! Was he not hurt on numerous occasions by Lennox Lewis? Just two obvious examples. Tyson did make it to his feet in the Douglas fight, but he was out on his feet! It would have been a gross misjugement by the referee had the fight continued. I mean Tyson had a GREAT chin but he has never won a fight after being down. I wouldn't say that he had no heart like some do because he took a lot of damage VS Ruddock,Buster,Holy,Lewis, and kept comming back for more untill he had nothing left. But he was never able to take over after that point.

it is no use to say what ifs but the thing is happen already and no changing that you should be asking why not Tyson goes to K1 or something

Tyson was completely out of it and done in that fight...had he not picked up his mouthpiece, either Douglas would have finished him and busted his teeth...or the ref would have halted the action, giving Tyson about 10 extra seconds to get the mouthpiece in, and Douglas would have busted him up and probably dropped him again... that is from a supporter of "in ring" Tyson... sorry...Tyson was completely done at that point...whether it continued or not... good post, I agree. Tyson just wasn't in that fight, to be able to finish it, if he was able to get up.

I know he was out of it, I just making an observation. so what youre asking is, if tyson wasnt knocked out by that punch, would he have finished douglas? perhaps.
