I mean, everyone is saying he would kill guys like hatton, mayweather, Judah, Corrales... and even carlos Baldomir?
If i had to pick a winner for COTTO-BALDOMIR, i would pick BALDY in a great fight.
people say Cotto would outbox Baldy. What good fighter has he outboxed? none. Not one good opponent.
Baldy beat JUDAH, and dominated Gatti, and stood 12 hard rounds with Mayweather.
Cotto beat paul malinaggi, who is a good boxer, but he never proved himself against anyone.
Cotto stopped Corley, which may be his best win.
Or maybe Carlos maussa.
I mean these are good fighters, but to say he can knock Mayweather out, or outbox Baldomir, or take a decision over mosley, is a bit rediculous at this point.
At least to me.
Cotto is a great fighter, but whoever he fights in JUNE will be his best opponent to date. If he stuggles against Margarito if they fight, or williams, or mosley, i see no reason why this guy is getting so much credit.
People are hating on guys like Hatton for hand picking there opponents... but cotto hasnt fought the opposition hatton has?
Cotto is a very exciting, very talented fighter, but he hasnt fought a name fighter since Maussa... and he is hardly a name... or corley if he counts.
the worse one was the baldomir prediction
I honestly think Baldy would slap Cotto around the ring or at least have him running again like he did with Mosley .. Cotto would have to box for a full 12 rounds.

Cotto is good, but his accomplishments don't warrant the dick riding he's received. I honestly give it up to Cotto and am somewhat of a fan now, which says a lot, since I'm barely a fan of any particular fighter. I only like 3 or 4 and am simply a fan of the sport, but Cotto has gained my respect.. Though I will shoot down any dick riding around me..
cotto is good enough that the threat of fighting him forced margarito to start thinking about actually getting in the ring with paul williams
I'm dissapointed b/c Cotto-Margarito would be a very interesting matchup, but Williams-Margarito could be a very good one too. Two guys who throw non-stop and get hit a lot.
Margarito chose to fight Williams b/c of the problems he's had with Top Rank. Bob Arum and Top Rank should've been making Margarito into a bigger name. He's a good fighter with a crown-friendly style. But Arum has done more with other fighters in his stable like Morales and Cotto, and Margarito is more known as "the guy who everyone fears, who Floyd ducks, etc...." rather than an entertaining beltholder/contender who throws like 100 punches a round. The contract for the Cotto fight called for more fights under Top Rank, and apparently Tony wants out.
I'll have to agree on you on that, fucki'n Arum really sucks. He's the master of disaster. Do you realize what he has done to Pacquiao's career? Goddam it's all messed up because Arum is just thinking of his pocket.
Sometimes when fighters just say "I'll fight who my management tells me to", it's an excuse to take easier fights and make easier money.
With Cotto, I don't think this is the case.
Oh yes that's a typing error, I have already posted him having 28 fights earllier on.
Anyway you cannot pull the guy down because he didn't get the big fights earllier on, time changes. The fact is you cannot get big fights for fighters who has 15-0 record now a days, that's a fact.
I'll repeat Cotto is just starting. His first fight at 147 is a title fight and came out victorious. His next fight is suppose to be Margarito which would be a make or break fight for him, so there's should be no reason to complain.
And besides fighters takes different paths on building their careers depending on the promoters. Williams has 32 fights, who has he fought? He doesn't even have a belt. Taylor got a big fight when he has already 22 fights. Pacquaio got his breaks when he has already 30 plus fights.
Cotto has Bob Arum and Top Rank backing him up. He's had a huge promotional push for a long time. Who is the last fighter with a kind of amateur background as his and the type of promotional push as his that has fought for six full years without facing a top five guy in his weight class? Riddick Bowe fought Evander Holyfield for the title in his 4th year as a pro. Lennox Lewis beat Razor Ruddock right before that and signed to fight the Bowe/Holyfield winner. DLH fought Ruelas, Whitaker, and Chavez within 4 and half years of his debut. Mayweather fought Hernandez and Corrales within 4 and half years of his debut. DLH and Mayweather were well-marketed Top Rank guys like Cotto.
Basically, I'm frustrated that Cotto just seems to do whatever Top Rank says. He always says "I'll fight whoever they tell me to". But my hate doesn't go to Cotto, it goes to Bob Arum.
And I hear about how it was his team's choice to keep him at 140 instead of 147. He should've moved up some time ago. Some of his troubles were due to weight, IMO.
Camacho was pretty much past it by then and 3 divisions above his best weight. I don't even think that much of that win for Trinidad. His other wins in 1994 were better IMO.
Tito was a pro for less than 5 years he faced the top contenders at 147 in Carr and Campas, and a pro for about 3 years when he beat Blocker for the title.
Okay, Blocker was shot.
Trinidad was all fighter and I think he would've stepped it up sooner, but King held him back.
Well yeah...Camacho just got pounded on by JCC not long before that. It's fair to say he was past it...but he was a "name" fighter. That seems to be what everyone wants Cotto to mix it up with...a name fighter. Campas was the real test there, even though he was just Ricardo Torres with 2x the amount of meaningless wins.:D
Yeh Blocker was shot to pieces. Tito's first THOROUGHLY impressive win was the Carr victory. Pretty underrated scrap too.
Gotta go ahead and say the scare with Corley set him back. It's definitely time for him to get down on a big dog or forever hold his peace.
Being at 140 too long set him back IMO. He should've been at 147 awhile ago. He looked like a zombie against Paulie.
Comparing him with Trinidad...I believe Trinidad was in his 24th(?) fight when he finally stepped up and took on Camacho. Cotto was on the saem kind of pace...in terms of winning a title and defending it a couple of times and the like.

Kostya Tszyu also moved up very quickly.
Cotto's "step-up" fight is overdue. I can't remember the last time such a well-marketed fighter with an established amateur background took this long to have his "step-up" fight.
God I can't stand Bob Arum. It would be funny if Cotto got even more successful and more popular, then dumped Arum.
Or if he signed with Golden Boy.

Jeff Fenech had 13 or so when he fought Zaragoza...
Not everyone moves along so quickly sir. He'll be stepping up soon enough.
EDIT: Disagree with me and i'll murder death kill you like John Spartan.

Oscar had a 17-0 record when he fought Rafael Ruelas, the IBF champ and probably the 2nd or 3rd best 135 lb fighter at the time. Floyd had a 17-0 record when he dominated the man who was considered the top jr. lightweight in the world, Genaro Hernandez. Both of them had been fighting as pros for less than 3 years.
Azumah Nelson had only 13 fights when he gave Salvador Sanchez hell.
He has 28.

I'm not saying it happens often or isn't unique, I'm just saying it does happen, contrary to what was previously said.
I like that Cotto is facing different styles in the ring. For a guy though that is so well marketed by Top Rank, you'd think by now he would step in with the real elite of a division.
Cool, i never read any posts other than this and the last page.
Yeah The time is now, he's ready, get him the big name! After Urakal (another tough good fighter but not great) He needs a BIG name fight and when he duz im confident he will prevail
Thats Special tho man, cant really hate on him for nt having done that
