Yes, that's right, Evangelista Cotto has said in an interview that they originally wanted the winner of Mosley-Collazo or Cintron for that fight but that Top Rank has recently introduced the name of Zab Judah to the mix.
Judah has a fight set for April 27th but seeing as this fight would be a lot more money, maybe he'll cancel that fight to go for Cotto in NYC.
I think this is a very interesting fight. Judah has the hand speed advantage but he's coming off a year layoff so the ring rust might be too much to overcome against a strong opponent like Cotto.
What do you guys think?
its funny how overrated cotto is for beatin a guy that fought nobody really exept joel julio.. i think judah would kill cotto at this stage... if judah uses his legs he can beat anybody
Actually, he also beat Edwin Cassiani, the guy who KO'd Luis Collazo (his only loss before Hatton), and Edwin was on a 9-fight win streak and had not lost in 4 years. So, he'd fought two mediocre fighters before Cotto, lol.
Quintana proved his boxing abilities against Julio, tho, and many thought Quintana would outbox Miguel and would have the advantage of being the bigger man and the natural Welterweight.
Judah is a small welter and I don't think Cotto will have much of a problem with his movement. His speed, however, will take some getting used to but Cotto has fought some guys with fast hands in the past (Paulie and Torres come to mind).

Judah's lightning fast accuracy is what makes it so powerful, ask Mayweather how tough it is to gaurd that shit. Not to mention, the way cotto holds his hands up, while hes trying to dig in body shots, one of those Judah uppercuts will sneak up on you. In my mind, its an even fight simply because Zab is so dangerous early, but after early rounds go, psh, you know cotto gonna win if it goes on for too long.
I could see cotto getting hurt early, but thats because zab is dangerous in those early rounds, but he fades, and against a hard puncher like cotto I dont see anyway hes gonna win.
id love to see this fight, you know i got zab. cotto's style is tailor made for judah, itt just all depends which judah shows up. the one that fought baldomir or the one that beat spinks...
thats putting too much stock in one fight.
Judah isn't some killer anymore...I fail to see why people still think this guy will dispatch everyone with one shot. He has already failed to knock out three guys that he has buzzed. He got to Cory Spinks, but that's because Spinks didn't have nearly enough power to get Zabs respect.
Cotto is a different fighter at 147. He'll walk through Judah just like Baldomir did...only he possesses the skill to stop Zab for the first time in his 147 pound career. This is considering that Zab comes into the fight in good form too. If he comes in lethargic like he has been known to do (against Pineda, Witter, etc) he'll be dispatched even easier.
This is the best WW fight out there right now other than Cotto - Margarito or Cotto - Mosley. The former will have to wait until September, the latter won't happen until DLH and Arum kiss and make up.
I'm picking Cotto to win by TKO5. Judah will try to box at first and his handspeed will be an issue to Cotto but Miguel likes to bang when the other fighter is throwing punches and his assault to the body will eventually weaken Judah enough to slow him down and allow Cotto to kill him upstairs.
OK, peeps seem pretty split on the outcome of this fight so i dont wanna hear Judah sux or was washed up or any other pish of that nature after a Cotto victory if it happens
LMAO!!! That's exactly what would happen if Cotto beats him, all of a sudden Zab was past his prime.

i think judah is def the better overall fighter here but im not sure if he can handle cotto's preassure and punching power together. but im not sure if cotto can take judahs punch either. cotto keeps his chin down all the time and hasnt really been hit flush on the chin from what i remember, so it is still suspect imo even though was knocked by torres, but that was from many shots.
with judah i think he has a very good chance of getting clocked by a quick punch as he comes in.
I think he looked off balance 'cause he was leaning forward after tasting those body shots. He became very protective of his rib cage. zab is a nasty puncher, dangerous all the way, but I think Bailey and Pinto punch harder than him. The real question is, will Cotto be able to take those quick shots from Zab he never sees coming. Bailey's and Pinto's shots he could see from a mile away.

Quintana from Round 1 on looked like he had no balance at all, he looked awful. Pinto/Bailey are not Judah. You take Judah's best shot, that your ass, just ask Corey Spinks. I like Cotto because he reps Puerto Rico well with his heart, but man, hes not the kind of fighter to Walk through someone like Zabs best shit, its too strong.

Thats fair enough, his power concerns me as a Cotto fan. But it pisses me off when peeps say he has NO chin!
I think the old Cotto is back, the one who walked through Bailey's and Pinto's best shots and kept coming forward. zab should be a very good test for Cotto's chin at 147. We saw Quintana landed some solid hard shots at Cotto's chin and never moved him, however Zab has more power than Quintana.
I think so to man, people forget that not so long ago everyone was saying how GOOD Cotto's chin was! And his Defence!

If Cotto gets rocked by Judah, unlike against lesser fighter, he wouldnt recover and tough it out, Judah would knock his ass out. However, if this fight is more than 6 rounds, Judah is stopped or humiliated.

You're right mate, he also has a nasty right hook to go with that straight, a good left upper cut as well. High risk/low reward fight for Cotto, but if no one else is available, then go for it.
Yeah I agree, if there is no 1 else then make it happen, coz Cotto would win and to sum Judah is a Marquee name, and Miguel needs 1 on his record! This fight is far more Dangerous than that fool Margarito
I think this is a dangerous fight for Cotto. If it goes pass the 5 round cotto wins but if he gets caught in the first couple round Judah could get him out of there.
Cotto survives a rough spot and blasts Zab out in the mid-late rounds. I don't think there are many fighters out there that'll be able to handle Cotto's power at 147.
