What does Floyd Mayweather have to do against De La hoya to shut up all the critics, and prove that he should be considered the best p4p in the world?
He doesn't have to do a damn thing in the ring.....and I'm pretty sure everyone has him ranked at #1.
It's what he does outside of the ring that nobody likes him for.

Get knocked down a couple times and get back up for a dramatic KO in the late rounds. That way everyone knows he has the heart of a lion and is willing to get his head knocked around so these so-called "boxing" fans can get hard-ons by watching people knock each other around. But we all know that Floyd doesn't do that, he fights to win and thats exactly what he'll do. In other words, Floyd has to fight like a dumbass and risk hs future to get respect. Being a 5 division beltholder isn't enough apparently.well put, i pretty much had a similar post to this one, but mine was just a little longer, due to the fact that i go off like a madman when i post sometimes. hey, it's in my nature but anyway, great post and i do agree 100 percent.
all he has to do is win, like he always does, and the critics will shut up fora small amount of time. he'll eventually get criticized again like he always does, none of that matters if he's winning.
the thing that gets me is critics on this forum and around the world like to claim that certain boxers floyd fought were washed up and past their prime. well, if that's the case, then why in the living hell are those washed up fighters still in the professional sport of boxing? huh? why don't they retire? if a fighter can still go out and fight, then they ar enot washed up imo. any active fighter no matter what age they are isn't washed up because they are still fighting. don't blame floyd because he makes them look like they should have retired years before their match with him. it's their fault that they are still going on a boxing career. people claim that shane has the speed and power to defeat floyd by knockout even. all fighters are capable of knocking their opponent out whether by one punch or an accuminilation of punches. now, when floyd beats oscar and shane, then they are washed up, but they had a huge chance to beat floyd many people claim. i mean, come on people, open your eyes. if they still feel they can fight, then how are they washed up, because they're not as fast as they once were. hello, time stops for nobody.
floyd will always get criticized because he wins the way he knows how in each fight, and that don't sit well with many people on here and involved with boxing. then they like to say if floyd fights whoever, then whoever would kill floyd, like if floyd fought haggler, hearns, leonard, then they all would kill him because they were bigger, stronger, and overall better, but what you people really mean is that because they fought the way you liked them to, then of course they can easily defeat floyd. you mind as well just admit to it. floyd is a sensational boxer and has perfected his crafts and talents, and people just don't seem to like his style, because the demand for brawling is set on a bar so high up, even if floyd did reach it, the critics would by then have changed their minds about brawling and shifted over to killing in boxing. floyd brawls, fans don't care because he didn't kill his opponents. people don't really know what to hate floyd for, but just to hate him. they bring up his personal life including the turmoil with him and his father, in which no one knows the true story about it, because they weren't there. people bring up his arrogance in promoting a fight and overall cockiness which is just irrelevant if he's backing up what he says in the rings, and winning the best way he knows how, not the way fans want it to happen. it's competiton folks, win by any means without breaking the rules, and floyd just happens to be a skillful "boxer", a word that many people seem to forget when talking about floyd. he's a boxer, not a brawler. deal with it. every opponent floyd fights will either beat floyd or has no chance against him because they are either not a good fighter or they are washed up or any other excuse people can come up with, and it makes me sick, because they really don't appreciate the essential artform known as boxing, and obviously floyd does, and to me and other "boxing" fans we appreciate it just like floyd does. forget the critics, they aren't in the ring fighting with floyd or fighting floyd's opponents. they are just watching, and are blinded by the brawling style in boxing. that don't matter to floyd, because he'll perform like he always does, whether you like it or not. pbftxrs signing off.
floyd cant run all day and throw single punches like he did with baldy. if he wants to be a real p4p fighter he has to mix it up with oscar like mosley did.
after that he needs to fight a few other good fighters like mosley, cotto witter-hatton, and then only i think he can be considered as a great p4p fighter.
if he KO'd him in one round, everyone would say Oscar was washed up. I expect a good fight after which De La Hoya signs Mayweather
That's all this is about!
Lot's could care less what Floyd does. The guy is not a compelling fighter, but when he gets older he understand what a goof he was in promoting his career and remember how much he paid lawyers to bail him out of trouble.
Instead, he had to rely on the good graces of Oscar for his signature fight and biggest payday.
Good post,no matter what he does hes gna get critisized,if he beats Oscar ppl will say Oscar was too old and had injurys,if he beats Shane de'll say Shane is too old and beat a shot Vargas, its amazing he gets all this but when Pacman beats Morales,a old and most likely shot fighter from all them wars,Pac gets praised
I'll give you that in there third fight but in the first two Morales was still very good, and he proved it the way he fought in the first fight by outboxing Morales and picking his spots to brawl. In the second fight Pac made adjustments and did what he had to do to win. Morales should not have fought the third fight, but was still very good in the first two.

Floyd should shut the hell up and fight. That would go a long way. If Mayweather said "You kn ow what, Oscar is a living legend, I'm happy to have this opportunity to get into the ring with him. I'm gonna win the fight but Oscar won't make it easy. It's going to be a great fight between a living legend and a legend to be but I'm gonna win it" then win or lose Floyd is a winner.
What Foyd shouldn;t do is call Oscar a "punk" and then question Ricky Hatton's ability to sell tickets in England.
Ooops...
Like someone said above, he is considered the best P4P in the world right now, by most.
PBF is too quick for Oscar. Yes DLH has fast hands as well, but not as fast as Floyd's. And if I was Oscar I would've paid whatever Mayweather Sr. wanted to have him as my trainer. Who knows PBF better than his own father? Plus that would've been in Floyd's head all fight long. DLH screwed up there.
PBF UD
I think Floyds mouth has gotten him into the most trouble. I think that to be successful in this fight he should have kept his damn mouth shut, and not said anything about Hatton. If he had done that he would have never brought anything up against him, but because he opened his big mouth he is basically saying that he has to win, and he is hardly focused on the already hard working De La Hoy, because he is already looking at Hatton, or another possible opponent.
I think Oscar is just possibly the wrong opponent. He is past his best and has shown problems with fast fighters. Mayweather's toughest possible opponents are past their prime (Oscar and Mosely). Other opponents are either a bad style match up for them, or not the same weight as Mayweather, or injured so they cannot fight yet.
There isn't much that Mayweather can do without getting criticized but he also helped to dig that hole himself.

there is nothing he can do but try to give the best performence in the biggest fight of his life, nothing more. detractors will always be there for every fighter, what can you do

Mayweather IS considered the best p4p in the world,he just gets a few critics here and there,Floyd just has 2 win him in nice fashion,he dont have 2 KO him,Oscar has a granit chin,i doubt a natural featherweight could KO Oscar,no1 has been able 2 do it besides Bernards body shot,Bernard was a natural middleweight,Floyds a small guy
