atlas is always talking about character and being held accountable and he dogs tyson and calls him a coward. but in his book he talks about sucker punching people, holding a gun to tyson, going to sneak up on lalonde and shooting him but not going through with it and stuff like that. seems like a big hypocrit to me!! he talks down about tyson so often. always saying tyson doesnt have heart and courage. well, if thats true why dont he ask tyson to meet him in the back room alone and see who comes out and who gets carried out? then we could see what teddy is made of. If tyson did the stuff teddy atlas himself has done he would say tyson was a menace and all these bad things so how come atlas doesnt point that high powered perception at himself???
I've met him once, but he was such a cool guy. I know I cant base his character on just one meeting (Mayorga was a mad cool dude too, so go figure) but I aint got any problems with him. I dont necesarily agree with his style, it isnt for me. But he's had success and he learned under one of the greats, Cus D'Amato.
I always thought Teddy Atlas was overrated as a trainer and he just comes across as a cold person. There is nothing wrong with a trainer being tough on his fighter but I think it is equally important for the fighter to know that his trainer genuinely cares about him. I've never got a sense that Atlas is a caring person.
He is an overrated trainer, but I believe he does care for his fighters.
It's just that his reputation and ego probably get in the way and then you see him draw attention to himself with his overdramatics.
I dont know but the comment before any ESPN FNF he gives out what i seen is mostly truw he has good anayltic skills and nobody cant deny it.
as for the Tyson the guy tried to rape his niece so what the fuck you would do if someone raped you family memeber still train him and put a smile in you face as if nothing happened
Not for nothing but.....Teddy is about 50 now I think.... and it might not be in his best interests anymore to be confrontational with certain people, you know?
I don't know but...I get the impression Teddy STILL might not be above a good old fist fight
Teddy's a very good guy, he gives me the impression of a tough saint. Like a St. Peter who would kick your ass.

Becuz that doesn't happen anymore. Atlas doesn't try to shoot people anymore.

actually it wasnt when teddy atlas was a troubled kid that he has done these things. cause in his book he talks about punching people -including an unsuspectign writer who teddy sucker punched at a weigh inn or something. he did these things while he was training moorer and i think shannon briggs it said. and he went to don lalondes house with a gun before he changed his mind. so the stuff he talks about a lot of it wasnt all that long ago. hes a loose cannon it seems. punching a reporter when he isnt ready for it doesnt sound like such a brave thing to do , imagine if tyson ever did that? what would atlas say about him
I think the whole point to Atlas's book was to show what a trouble little fucker we was growing up, and how he changed his ways as he got older. I think Teddy knows his shit, and he's not the trainer for everybody. There's a certain percentage of people who respond to his type of motivation, to everybody else it just pisses them off.
Probably nobody remembers that Atalas had a fighter years ago. An American fighter that his commentating partner and the studio commentators asked, "when are we going to see your fighter?" finally Teddy allowed him to be on tv espn and he was in a life and death and got a draw, then he rematched him, his fighter won by outboxing him. What does this mean? Nothing just where is this fighter that Atlas was training and is he still training him? FNF regulars maybe remembers Atlas fighter.
Atlas is a gent and a true figurehead for the fight game. Tyson threatened to rape his 11 year old niece, to be specific (If you believe Atlas' biography) so holding a gun to his head was pretty much a rational reaction.
he's a hypocrite who humiliates his fighters. what was that crap with michael grant?
instead of telling him in the dressing room, he tells him with the cameras on him
"don't be paralyzed by your insecurity. I don't want to see all that doubt in you".
He yaps about the evils in boxing, mismatches on television, but when he manages a fighter, he does the exact same thing and puts his guys in there with overmatched guys who shouldn't be fighting.

atlas already learned from the scar on his face not to physically challenge a bunch of hoodlums when he's outnumbered or outsized without a proper weapon.
tyson may have been just a teen but he was a monster. the man-child was like 200 lbs. at 12 years old, and he didn't look fat either.
Teddy Atlas is a smart guy and a good commentator. He held a gun to Tyson's head because Tyson sexually harassed his niece. And you guys are mad because he didn't fist-fight Tyson instead?
"Oh hey, a big ass-kicking black man who eats fighters for breakfast just came on to my niece. Even though he's much bigger than me, I think I'll challenge him to a fist-fight."
If the thread maker is mad because Teddy didn't fight Tyson, then he's an idiot.
Not to condone bad deeds, but alot of the fights and crimes he admits to were done as a minor. We all did dumb stuff when we were young, at least he admits it. As for the Lalonde incident, he imagined it but did not go through with it. And if someone did to a little girl relative of mine what Teddy said Tyson did, I might well have pulled the trigger, not just brandished the gun.
Y'know, getting off subject a bit, I wish Rooney and Tyson would write books. I mean, more so Tyson than Rooney. Considering he is hard up for cash and having lots of personal problems, maybe it would help him to finally write his autobiography. The money would more than likely be good (I know tons of peeps on here would like to get lots of the 'facts' they read on him to be straightened out) and it would definately be an interesting read (the Beyond The Glory doc was intriguing initself, imagine the same thing but even more detailed and in depth) and the time it would take to narrate the story to a collaborater would maybe keep him out of trouble (doubtful). Same with Rooney, though his would probably be much shorter than Tyson's (detailing his amatuer and professional careers and his years under Cus training Mike). I would be interested in reading either or both. What about you?
