From ESPN Dan Rafael's Notebook:
The May 5 Oscar De La Hoya-Floyd Mayweather Jr. HBO PPV fight is a huge event, and HBO is treating it that way.
The network regularly promotes its pay-per-view offerings with the help of half-hour preview shows that air on HBO during the two weeks before the fight. De La Hoya-Mayweather is too big for just one show, so HBO is going to air a four-episode prime-time countdown series previewing the junior middleweight championship fight.
The first three episodes of "De La Hoya/Mayweather 24/7" will premiere on Sundays (April 15, 22 and 29) at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT. The final episode will air May 3 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT.
HBO is clearly putting all of its muscle behind the fight -- the first three episodes will air following a block of original episodes of "The Sopranos" and "Entourage," two of HBO's most popular shows.
"In 35 years of televising boxing, this is a first for HBO," Greenburg said. "De La Hoya vs. Mayweather will be the most highly anticipated fight of the year and we are going to provide our subscribers with an all-access series that is sure to be provocative and compelling television."
Greenburg said he believed the series would appeal to more than just hardcore boxing fans because of the access producers have been granted.
"The producers will be living at the fighters' camps 24/7," he said. "Our approach will be to produce a totally unique viewing experience as these two world-class athletes prepare for a defining moment in their respective careers. And we appreciate the commitment and cooperation of the fighters and their teams with this ambitious project."
what the fuck are you talking about? Mayo had a hell of a chin by taking tito's best shot and laughing and dancing. Oscar dropped him with one punch!! So that doesn't make Mayo a bum, he is a brawler that wants to take your head off and that shows the power of Oscar.

I'm grateful for the tip.
Hopefully I catch every single one.
I remember Tito on his ass in that fight. With two free shots to the chin of Mayorga, he still could drop him with his left hook. A real bum he is.
Then you don't remember the fight that actually occurred.
Tito's glove touched down after a right hand on the ear.
Im sorry I hate to use that term but Mayorga was a bum. .

what are you talking about? lol
u have no idea do u?
Its considered the biggest fight because of how impressive DLH looked last time out, and how many thought this would just be a fantasy matchup.
And the fact that DLH is the only opponent in years that has a chance of beating Mayweather, doesnt hurt the hype.
This is a HUGE fight, and if u arent excited to see the fight, or at least know the outcome, U DO NOT LIKE BOXING! you like fighting
ALI fought foreman past his prime, but it was an event.
Louis fought Marciano past his prime, but it was an event.
Leonard and Hagler fought past their primes, but it was an event
Lamotta fought Robinson for the last time when he was waaay past his prime, but the fight was a huge event.
And DLH will fight Mayweather when hes past his prime, but still a very solid fighter. I wouldnt even call him way past his prime because the layoff seems to have done him a lot of good. ANd this fight will be a huge event
De La Hoya is nothing but a name. He looked semi impressive in beating up Mayorga, who was only a pretty good welterweight. How do we even know if hes top 5 at 154 let alone the best? We have no idea. He fought one fight at 154 in 4 years, and it was agaisnt a bum. Im sorry I hate to use that term but Mayorga was a bum. He had a paper belt. He would have gotten beaten by Karmazin, Ouma, Spinks, Mosley, Forrest, Quartey, etc. Tito beat the living shit out of Mayorga and went on to be humiliated by Winky. I admit I kind of bought into the hype of the Mayweather/DLH fight, but I was wrong.
late 90's DLH at welter against Mayweather at Welter = Fantasy Matchup
Mayweather at lightweight against DLH at lightweight = Fantasy Matchup
An event is an event. It doesnt mean its the "biggest fight of all time" Or even close for that matter. The Ali that fought Foreman was still active and proved he was still a great fighter. The only thing DLH was done to prove hes still a great fighter is knockout an overhyped, overrated, wild swinging, past his best Mayorga. And when Oscar fights on May 5 it would be another year of inactivety.
Am I going to watch it? Most likely, but I wont have the mindset of it being one of the biggest fights of all time. Not by far. Its the most popular against the best fighter in the world. Nothing more, nothing less.
DLH is eight years past his best. This is far from the biggest fight of all time. If it is considered that, then that just goes to show you how far boxing has fallen.

maybe hbo is going to hire mayweather sr. for the countdowns or for the fight.
with all this airing of both fighters history and camps I am sure someone will somehow want him in just for the show.
actually i am wondering if we have to be so sure that he is not going to be in either camp
im telling this is going to the history books

nothing new. a few years ago, we had lewis-tyson when tyson was 14 years past his best.
ali was about 7-9 years past his best in zaire and manila.
Gay Ray was 6-7 years and 2 weight classes past his best against Hagler, who was about 5 years or so past his best.

Now that the fight is happening, i'll admit it seems to be anticipating this fight more and more. I just hope Delahoya doesn't fight like a walking zombie and if he has to, he will get the bounce in his legs that usally helps him set up some killer combos.
