I was just thinking about it and realized I had never seen Barrera handle an excellent boxer before. The one time I saw someone effectively box Barrera was the rematch with Morales, which Morales clearly won. Barrera had no answer in that fight when he was younger and supposedly settling into his boxing style. What has changed since then? I know Barrera can't beat relentless punchers like Pacquiao and had trouble when Morales boxed effectively. I think he can beat anyone that falls in the gap between those extremes (which is almost everybody other than Pacquiao), but what do you guys think? Can he box with a boxer or does he have to make it a brawl?
Thats how i felt at the time, Valbueno was on point that night, Barrera had a ton of trouble in this fight. Im not sure but i belive Valbueno went on to win a title or was it fight for another title. I havn't heard anything about him anymore for few years. Im sure Barrera learned a lot from this fight, as he is the one that has since been putting on the boxint lessons on his opponets.
if im honest that was one fight barrera could have lost, he came on strong in the championshsip rounds and took more risks from the 9th round onwards to take the win.
your right about barrera back in the day, the dude NEVER smiled, hes face was expressionless, he had no facial expression, his eyes were just open and he would just have this passive, mean look on his face, and he would KILL opponents to the body, its like people have forgotten that was barreras best punch, it probably still is, but because he has added more boxing punches to his attack he rarely goes to the body alot, i remember he would just attack the body, nothing else, his left hook would just CRUMBLE opponents

watch this video, lol at his long hair
YES I GOT IT RIGHT!!!!
valbuena was beatin barrera to the punch, jabbing him to death, i remember at the end of a round barreras corner telling him to get out of the way of the jabs and slug with him and barrera actually said somethign like, "i cant, hes boxing me" or something like that, i was sitting their shocked :puppy_dog lol

pretty early on in his career. 30 fights into his career or something. i only started watching barrera around the mckinney fight so i dont have much info on his earlier stuff.
I started watching him a few fights before the McKinney fight. He was already a solid baddass before he meet up with McKinney, Barrera was already very well known. I remember before he meet up with J.Jones, he was a monster coming forward and throwing many punchs but his left hook to the body he used to throw it with very mean intentions, used to ko people in this fashion. Back then i really don't recall people calling for a Barrera v. Marquez fight because Barrera was the smaller fighter fighting at a smaller weight. Also back then Barrera did not smile, not after his win, tko or ko, he would not smile, he was a stone cold killer back then, still is with his boxing thought, :boxing: though imo, he made his name with the style he first started out with. The announcers were alway tripping out that no matter how spectaculer Barrera win was or not matter how hard Barrera got hit, his experssion would not change. Barrera was a beast back then he never boxing his opponet like he did to Rocky till after the 1st Jones fight and he showed us that he can box in the 2nd Jones fight, which i thought he won a razor close descicion. Barrera was mad that he lost and stormed out of the ring, and for the first time Barrero took on confident builder fights and then meet up with Morales. But during the 1-2 years Barrera was gone from boxing, then fighting build up fights and little by little getting the attention back the boxing world brought us "El Terrible" Erik Morales.
Bingo!
Valbueno gave Barrera hell, for sure Barrera took Balbueno lightly this guy was a unknown fighter coming in and troubled Barrera for 12 rounds, Barrera didn't look good at all in this fight probably one of the only times that i recall when watching a Barrera fight thinking Barrera is an old fighter. But he showed me and keep on winning.
Barrera came first, Marquez second and Morales third. And yet Barrera is still on the top of the boxing world and is still around. Much credit for Barrera though i rooted against him against Juarez. :puppy_dog I hope now that Juarez is on Barreras team, maybe Barrera can help Rocky become a better fighter by talking with him and maybe showing him a few moves.
I was thinking that even though Barrera has been in more wars he still has the faster hands then Marquez. Both are good counter punchers Marquez better but I think Barreras ability to throw in combinations and at a spilt second will make the difference. But i have no doubt this will be a war. No way Marquez would allow Barrera to try and box him or to try and just walk all over him, both are battle tested and both want to shine.

Salazar? I don't remember this fight. When i started seeing Barrera he already has a few fights under his belt and he was running through everybody.

Did you see the Barrera/Salazar fight when Marco was still an upcoming slugger? It was a MD win for Barrera, I haven't seen it so I was wondering if you had any info on it.

barreras my favourite fighter of all time so i hope i get this right... lol
was it a boxer named valbuena?? if i remember although barrera got the win against him, it was not an easy fight at all, it was his first fight after his first epic battle with erik morales in 2000, and even though i thought barrera won the fight, he was havin trouble with the way valbuena was boxing him.
also for the people sayin that junior jones had more energy than barrera and he was always beating him to the punch, etc, in the first fight that maybe true, although barrera was winning on the scorecards before he got KO'd, plus in their 2nd fight, barrera could easily have won that fight, however he got a point taken away from him in the late rounds and i think he actualy did enough to pull out a decision against junior jones.
regarding pacquiao, i honestly think when barrera steps in the ring against him it will be a MUCH more competitive fight, and a fight i think he can win, you learn a lot more from a defeat rather than a win, and barrera will come in 100% focused with a proper training camp and no distractions under his belt. he has the tools to beat pacman and give him a good fight, he will be more prepared this time and has built him self up boxing wise wise and has got his confidence back with his fights after pacman, had he got in the ring with pacman again straight after the 11 round beating, i think he might have lost that again, that must have been a huge physical and physcological blow that barrera had to overcome, and although it has been 3-4 years he needed to do it to get his confidence back. one thing i will never do is underestimate barrera or count him out of a fight, especially when he is an underdog. people though he would lose to morales the first time (he did to the judges..lol) buhe won that fight in may peoples eyes, peopel thoguht he would get blown away by the power of naseem hamed, he boxed him silly and again, people thought he would lose to morales in heir 3rd fight and he won that, people even thought he would lose to rocky juarez in their 2nd fight and barrera boxed him silly.
with marquez, it hink it will be an excellent fight with brawling and boxing, with barrera winning a UD, marquez is a good boxer and will definatley have his moments, i just think barrera will be the more smarter boxer.

I can't belive nobody remembers....

That question wont be answered against Marquez though Marquez is a great boxer he is old and has clearly lost a step.
i think it will be answered in away cuz MAB also have loss a step or 2 ...
the only guy I can think of now at 130 who can closely fit the master boxer category is MAB himself and Guzman
Junior Jones was a slick boxer who presented Barrera with a lot of problems. He had a damned good right hand and he was consistently beating Barrera to the punch. I honestly feel like the thing that bothers Barrera is ENERGY!
Look at his bad losses to Pacquiao and Jones. Both of those guys came into those respective fights with a ton of energy and they were both very sharp. They would beat Barrera to the punch and always tried to end an exchange with him. The Juarez fights are a good example too. In the first fight...Rocky was live and came in with a full head of steam. He had Marco in bad shape the entire second half of that fight. In the second fight he was flat and looked uninterested...which is why Barrera slapped him around.
this is why I don't think any version of Barrera would have beaten any version of Pacquiao. I also think Marco would struggle BADLY with a fighter like Jesus Chavez. Chavez is a guy who is always going 100 miles per hour, always pressuring and looking to crack you.
he doesnt like when a guy has more energy then him .. i dont think he was ready for pacqioua tho
Of course Barrera can beat a person who boxes better than him or someone who has a punchers chance... I think Barrera is so skilled that no matter who he is in the ring with, he will give them hell.
he means what junior jones did to him 2 times that was the best boxer barerra fought and he beat berrera twice out of only 4 losses

No, those were battles where both were stepping forward not so much boxing. The McKinney fight was a great fight!
Johhy Tapia, Pac or even penden and pauli ayalie
