Is it true that after tyson lost to buster douglas, they gave pernell the #1 p4p status and he had it for 7 years till his loss to oscar. Damn, #1 pound for pound for 7 fuckin years! Then Roy Jones was #1 pound for pound for 7 years too, they are amazing.
Yo can u hook me up with who was pound for pound from 1960s and on.
That'd be tough to do because, if I'm remembering correctly, p4p ratings weren't included in the boxing magazines until around 1983 or 84, although KO Magazine used to run a "best fighter" p4p poll at the end of every year starting in 1980 and those can easily be found in The Ring's (who continued the poll) annual year-end issues...At least I'll assume they're still doing so, as I have a year-end issue of their's from 2003 with all of the annual "best fighter" polls listed in it.
so then this is how it goes right.
1979-november 1982: Sugar Ray Leonard
Nov. 1982- April 1987: Marvin Hagler
April 1987- February 1990: Mike Tyson
February 1990- September 1993: Julio Cesar Chavez
September 1993- May 1997: Pernell Whitaker
May 1997- May 2004: Roy Jones Jr.
May 2004- June 2005: Bernard Hopkins
June 2005- present: Floyd Mayweather
Agreed, except that Dela hoya was on Top from 97-99, but pound for pound ratings are interchangable, there was a point went Tito was considered #1, and now, boxing fans are divided between mayweather and Pacquiao and who's the best.

Hill was coming off a loss to DM. Thats the one guy Jones should have fought but never did at 175. Both were champs together at 175 pretty much the entire time.
Both guys are kind of at fault for not making that, but im sorry there is no excuse for a so called p4p#1 to ever fight a guy like Richard Frazier.
DM scouted Roy out at the Hill fight and left immediately afterwards. He never mentioned fighting Roy again and the fight prospect dissapeared.
I don't see how Roy making that fight had anything to do with him getting paid big money, or how it would do much for his legacy. DM was not a huge star in the States and people here didn't have much exposure to him.
I'm also thinking that's a reason why it really is insignificant because DM lived off Roy's leftovers outside of Hill. LOL.

Chavez became #1 pound for pound at the turn of the decade following his unforgetable come from behind TKO victory over Meldrick Taylor, sweet pea was #2, it was when whitaker and chavez fought that Whitaker became the best fighter pound for pound, Whitaker hold that distinction until his controversial lost to Dela hoya, and roy Jones and Tito Trinidad were also closing in that #1 p4p status, I remember the boxing writers gave Roy Jones an award of "Boxer of the decade in the 90s" I think that nod should go to sweet pea since he was the most dominant boxer in the 90s.
what if he's a mandatory and roy wants to keep all his belts?
True, cause that was the situation. But what about his fight with Derrick Harmon? The public and Hbo didn't like the fact that Roy chose to face Harmon instead of a better opponet. Roys faults is that he avoided a few contenders, that people guessed Roy may be, but would have a tough time with. Roy like Floyd for years, too the easy road.

He got the p4p after he had a draw with Chavez, before that Chavez was a #1 P4P.

if you think roy was gonna go over there after what happened to gerald your crazy
so the draw with chavez is basically a win. I heard u cant lose ur P4p staus until u lose a fight. Yo can u hook me up with who was pound for pound from 1960s and on.
Eder Jofre was the P4P best throughout much of the sixties I believe.
Jones looked much better against Virgill Hill than DM. Hill also says he was injured against DM, he threw A LOT of punches in the early rounds and gassed out, maybe its true what he claims.
dude jones beat virgil hill by ko, that has to mean something.
