Fran Charles misses enough dates as it is. I don't know if he could take an expanded schedule while Lampley "sorts out his mess" in the event of a suspension/firing...
Do you suppose HBO has already contacted Brian Kenny? He might be my pick... I'd rather him over, say, Chris Rose or Barry Thompkins...
Lampley won't get fired. If they need a short term replacement, I honestly wouldn't mind seeing Tessitore on HBO. I think he does a decent job for ESPN...
that's exactly what i was thinking. joe tessitore would be a good for a play by play guy, but i don't think that lamp is going to get the axe, maybe some time off to sort things out, but you never know they could give him the benihana chop, they do have a reputation to uphold but who knows lamp is the best at what he does without a doubt, even if he does stroke certain fighters.
Max is gonna be on there pretty soon even if he doesnt get there by taking Jim's job. Theyve been grooming him to take Merchants spot. Hell he was there in the Rocky movie. He just has to find a way to kill Merchant because he refuses to go. Shouldnt be to hard to kill him though, just pour some poison in his drink while hes drunk...
Brian Kenney says some things that downright strange to me at times.
The dude is shockingly ignorant and seems to garner his opinions from internet boxing boards.
I'd be pretty choked if Lampley goes cause theirs really no other boxing commentator like him out there. Hopefully he gets off with like a short suspension or something...In that case i'd want Max Kellerman
I really don't know. I wouldn't want anyone but Lampley.
To be honest with you, I still miss Big George. :(
Make that two votes for nobody but Lampley.
I'll take Kellerman if Lampley is suspended or whatever. Kellerman knows what he's talking about (although he plays favorites). He brings a youthful contrast to Merchant.
Fran Charles is garbage.
Definitely, Fran Charles is terrible & seems to not know boxing at all. I do like Kellerman because you can tell he loves boxing. He can get annoying at times because he has his favorites but I still like what he brings to the table.

I would be very upset if they replace Jim Lampley with anyone. Fran Charles, he might be the best candidate but even still he's not Lampley. Brian Kenny isn't a blow by blow, Joe Tessitore however is a very exciting announcer whose emotions carry over very well to the audience. Barry Tompkins used to be the blow by blow guy before Lampley.

To be honest if anyone was going to do this shit I thought it would be Merchant. Watch Lampley say nothing to merchant in fear of merchant saying something about him beating his wife.
Kellerman, Foreman and Jones are being mentioned but none of those guys are blow-by-blow guys, there's a big difference between what they do and what Lamps does.
Neils, good point...but I still think he's earned enough working for them over the years to get through this and keep his job. If this happened to Kellerman or Charles I'm sure they would be canned at the first acceptable moment.
Well, I know Floyd was mentioned earlier in this thread and if HBO didn't try to take his contract away after his repeated troubles with the law, how can they just dump Lamps after one incident?
Since Merchants infamous and oft-criticized "Mayweather prefers women for sparring partners (paraphrasing)" comment during the Bruseles telecast, I don't think any aspect of his legal problems have been mentioned since (except maybe the Gatti fight telecast, I didn't see it).
HBO will be more than willing to give Lamps a second chance.
Lampley is an employee, though, not a featured perfomer...
i really hope it doesn't come to that... but i could easily see HBO running for cover over this
