I'm only going from the 70s on since my fight collection from before the 1970s isn't so good.
70s: Ali-Frazier III
80s: Chacon-Edwards II
90s: Carbajal-Gonzalez I
00s: Corrales-Castillo I
70's - Ali/Frazier I or III
80's - Hagler/Hearns or Duran/Barkley
90's - Taylor/Chavez I
00's - Morales/Barrera I or Castillo/Corrales I
Good call both ways...

Good point, my friend.
For entertainment value, have a look at DLH - Gatti, for sure, Cruz - McGuigan, Mcguigan - Pedroza. Benn - Eubank fights, Hamed - Barrera (to see the latter give the former a boxing lesson) and also the Pacman - Barrera, Barrera - Morales fights, and Pacman - Morales fights. All wars. In my opinion, though, none as great as that first Castillo - Coralles fight though.
By the way, if anyone has a US broadcast of Castillo - Coralles I, I'll pay you damn good money to mail me a copy.

Benn- McClellan was big. The thing with the others that you mention is that both fighters were not at their peeks. Ward-Gatti was a good scrap but was it contested by two of the greatest fighters on the planet at the time? Same with Tapia-Ayala, who the F was Ayala coming up, he held little regard in the publics eye.
The thing with Hagler/Hearns is that they were both rated atop the times P4P list and when they came together it was instant war. There have been countless great fights between not so great fighters. But when two of the greatest of the time step in a deliver like that its just magical...........Rockin':boxing:

There wasn't much clinching. They were fighting on the inside and fighting for position, but there wasn't much holding either.
they werent clinching neccasarily, but they were close to eachother, and they certainly werent throwing very often
Castillo-Corrales I wasnt that good a fight for the first 6 rounds. Lots of clinching, lots of booing from the crowd, but when they did throw it was awsome.
Bombs away. In round 7, it REALLY heated up. Round 8 was ALLLL action. And round 9 was time capsule stuff, like Gatti-ward round 9 or Barrera-Morales round 5. ANd then round 10 is self explanatory. The single most dramatic round in the history of boxing

Hagler - Hearns was a great fight, but it only lasted 3 rounds. I'm not being confrontational here - I respect your view - but I reckon, if you haven't already, have a look at Castillo - Coralles I, Gatti - Ward I, II, III and maybe Benn - McClellan to widen your viewpoint.
Hagler - Hearns was a war, but so was Tapia - Ayala I and II.
Just a suggestion or two, my friend.

My favorite of all-time has to be Hagler-Hearns. The two fighters at the top of their careers stepping up and just going to war, bombs away.
A guy from Kronk took me on a trip to work with his kid for a week and on the way down told me a story about the fight. He said that before the fight in the dressing room Emanuel had stepped out for a few minutes to take care of something. When he returned he found Hearns dressing room filled with his entourage. Hearns was laying face first on the rub down table and Emanuel became furious when he saw that there was one of Hearns friends rubbing down his legs. Emanuel istantly kicked everybody out in a furious rage.
If you notice in that fight Hearns legs never really seemed to be stable under him. You should never be rubbed down right before a fight. So I was told that Hearns could feel that his legs were not right and went right at Hagler trying to end it quick. This gave us one of the greatest fights ever in my mind, god I love watching them throw................Rockin':boxing:

STEWARD tells that story in every interview he gives. I doubt it made TOO much a difference, because Hagler was chargin at him and Hearns had no choice but to fight him off
the end of benn-mcclellan ruins it for me.
i can't watch it.
yeah i love dogs and pets and g-man apparently was a sick individual, but i still can't watch fights like these.
