I have read a few times that some folks believe that he only fought "taxi cab drivers" and wasn't a great fighter. Why is this? I was just looking over his record and thinking about some of those fights live ... Personally, I believe that he was an all-time great. Looking down the list, Ruben Castillo, Roger Mayweather, Dwight Pratchett, Rocky Lockridge, Juan LaPorte, Edwin Rosario, Bazooka Limon, Sweet Pete Whitaker, Oscar De La Hoya, Kostya Tszyu, Macho Camacho, ... Win or lose, controversy or no controversy, those are some incredible opponents to me.

If Meldrick Taylor and Pernell couldn't have beat him, I very much doubt Sanchez could have.
Just being realistic, an' all that.

Sanchez was a couterpuncher and he fough great oppoinstion yes he did have the good balance but he may alway knockdown but not knockedout.
another thing Taylor was winning by poiny and Pernell was robbed so in another word those guys are great boxers as same as Sanchez he sometimes engage in a slugfest very effectivly with his reach and in the middle of sluggfest he is hardly been hit and the couter comes from many side.
sweet pea got robbed, no doubth....
but chavez aint no bum
Chavez aint a bum at all, he's a fuckin living legend. He beat meldrick taylor twice, rosario, camacho, ramirez. He has an awesome resume.
he fought between 4-6 times a year. ofcourse there is gonna be nobodies, they were the equivalent of warm up fights...
if you can find 4-6 different contenders that chaves could have fought tell me please...
chavez is great no doubt, but you have to admit pernell is better.

julio cesar chavez is the best and greatest mexican fighter in history. considering all the great fighters that came out of mexico, thats saying a lot, seriously.
for those of you who quesiton his record and opposition, to them i say "you're retarded".
Chavez has a better resume than most fighters, however sweet pea tooled him and won. Ring Magazine considers it a win for pernell whitaker. So pea's record is really 42-4.

I'm not disagreeing that Chavez beats Sanchez (who didn't even fight in the same weight class as JCC), but Sanchez fought differently than those guys.
i have the same thoughs as you father :D
i think Sanchez would beat Chavez he is a boxer and a slugger and pressure fight on at once and he got a great punching power to go with

Lets see how long it takes till we see another fighter go 90 some and 0. While beating some heavy competition.
You are so straight on the money, dude...
Props.
Ian
dumb ass...he only beat taxi cab drivers, when he started fighting real competition he lost..when did roger mayweather, ruben castillo dwight pratchette rocky lockridge ever become creidable opponents?
Lets see how long it takes till we see another fighter go 90 some and 0. While beating some heavy competition.
those taxi drivers referred to were chavez non title bouts in between championship fights, chavez fought 5 or 6 times a year and the 90s era had some of the big names taking non title fights such as toney, whitaker, jackson, roy jones, norris, etc. chavez record wouldnt be padded to 88-0 if he didnt wasted his time taking on opponents who had no chance of beating him, overall, he was an all time great considering the big names decorated in his resume.

If you really look into that Issue, alot of these fools hating are young bucks that wernt even around or were little Rugrats that didnt even know what boxing was or Who was who back in the days. The way I look at it if your not from that generation you have no right to talk down on a fighter because they dont even know who was ranked back then.
We never got to see Sanchez at 130, and unfortunately, also never got to see a unificiation bout with Pedroza at 126.
Sanchez was great but don't underestimate Chavez's skills. He was versatile and complete as well. He could box too when he wanted.
Sanchez head-to-head might have won, but as it goes, I can't rank him higher than Chavez based on achievements.
My dad says the same thing. He loves Chavez but he said Sanchez would have whooped that ass. One thing Chavez haters don't realize is that no one has 80 big fights. Chavez fought the best of his time and the only person you can say he didn't fight was Terry Norris, and yet Terry was at a weight above him during that time.
i have the same thoughs as you father :D
