This is the last time im going to reply about this specific topic as far as the race issue because im starting to feel like im arguing in circles, i showed this thread to my own cousin who wondered herself why your going on and on when ive clarified these things as much as i can, so for the last time.
A black american is a black american, some people prefer to be called african american, some prefer black. Its all in preference, period. I dont wanna be called african american because i prefer black, its all in preference, period. If Ivan Calderon comes in this fuckin thread and says "IM NOT BLACK, DONT CALL ME BLACK PLEZE THX" then thats his fuckin preference, it doesnt stop me for having the BELIEF that hes BLACK, along with about a million other people.
The reason why i edited that paragraph over and over is due to the frustration your causing due to your arguing in circles over and over and not looking to reason with what im saying, your so obessed with the idea that nationality and race are the same thing for EVERYONE, that your trying to press it on me like its going to change, im trying to be clear with you, but your not allowing me because your arguing with me on this the topic the same way you would about most things you tend to argue about, IN CIRCLES.
Ivan Calderon is Puerto Rican. His RACE is Latino, and his biogeographical ancestry is Puerto Rican therefore he is Puertorican.
You just contradicted yourself, you just said you look at it through nationality then you just said you're grandma is haitian but then you classified that as african.
Black Jesus is right, race and nationality are a entire different thing.
i was speaking in regards to my first comment being white, with some spanish. i didnt mean that literally.
i dont consider my race white with some spanish. i look at it through nationality. I am of Dominican and Salvadorian descent and thats how Im gonna keep it.
Edit: Well my grandmother is half haitian so i guess I got some african in me as well.

Because you have one way of thinking and it surprises me. Im thinking you are not proud of the heritage you have.
I've read that you are from North Cali. And that explains a lot to me. Especially who you'd rather seperate yourself from being called Puerto Rican. You want to grouped with blacks not seperated. Maybe you fell being Puerto Rican will make you an Outkast to your black peers.

Again imo, it seems you don't want to be an outkast to your black peers. I bet if you lived in the East Coast you'd have more pride being of Puerto Rican heritage.
Its' all to your preferance and what you want to be called.

I actually feel the same way about you. I know i've repeated myself in just about every post due to you saying the samething over and over.
I had to edit the quote you responded to so i'll ask it again since you didn't quote me after i edited.
Would you consider a black/American African?
your so obessed with the idea that nationality and race are the same thing for EVERYONE
Your way of seeing things is what is weird. If you seen Luis Miguel would you say he was white, even though he is Mexian?
Thing is you seem to think everybody thinks like you do. But thats not what i see.
See. You're going against you're own belifes.
Would you say a black/American is African American?

I do call myself american, but because of the nature of the thread i mention puerto rican, salvadominicano once asked me how i even knew spanish, sometimes i get tired of explaining so i clarify certain things. If this were a normal conversation, 9 times out of 10 i just say american unless i dont feel like explaining certain cultural things about myself such as the spanish language.
My dad is NOT light skinned, AT ALL. My mom is very light skinned with black hair. A light skinned black person still considers himself black because you cant really be anything else, especially in america.
See. You're going against you're own belifes.
Would you say a black/American is African American? edit agaon: I ment, "would you say a black/American is African?
edit: about your first paragraphy i can relate and i understand what you are saying.
I was born in san jose california, i speak the spanish language, im a puerto rican american thats my heritage, my race is black with some spanish, technically its mulatto but i never go by that because it complicates things. why is this concept hard for you to understand. Why is the seperation between heritage and race hard for you to accept?
Heritage only goes so far with me, i have been all over the world, i have lived in japan, england and guam being in the military and its exposed me to so many other cultures and heritages, when you have been exposed to so many walks of life and so many different things and different lands, your world view has far less tunnel vision and thats why i am the way i am today, aware of my culture, but not overtly hardcore, i dont need to be.
You just edited and added the last paragrah. :owned: lol.
You say race is black. But then you go on to say here that your race is black and spanish. :ugh:
Do you know the Spanish were also conquared for many decades? The moors fucked their people just like the spanish fucked our people.
You last paragraphy explains a few things about your point of view.
If you don't want seperation, then why not call yourself American?
I wouldn't even call you a mulatto, to me thats would mean im dissing you. Spainish lables, is not good.
What would a light black/African-American consider himself?
I seen your picture in another thread.
If i seen you walking down the street, yeah i'd assume you were black, but looking at your light skin i'd also think you have white blood in you, then finding out your were Puerto Rican it'd all make sence for your light skin color - besides that your mom or dad may be light skinned.

I get the sense that you ashamed to be Puerto Rican or i should say being called Puerto Rican, you look black, while dening your heritage, just seems that like you want to be called anything but Puerto Rican, Im probably wrong. But somtimes people just want to fit in and not be seperated from their peers.
Were you born in the US? If so then you're American. Would you call yourself American or consider yourself American?

In a sense i am, but splitting hairs or not its not out of the question. I could either look at myself as a "latino" or look at myself as "black", the features i have are defining enough to classify me as black, so thats what i am, and if i said otherwise it would be borderline rediculous because you can CLEARLY look at me know right away.

I agree with many of the points that Black Jesus brings up. I remember an interview with the guy that played Romeo on the Steve Harvey Show. He was asked about his ethinicity & he replied that his family is from the Dominican Republic now living in Washington Heights & he even spoke Spanish, but considered himself Black. With him saying that I take it he had the same thinking as Black Jesus.
I am glad you can LAUGH at yourself.. proves your brain is quite healthy.. and answers my question with a BIG NO.. BUT I am really scratching MY head over the point of this thread.. Why not just ask if CAlderone is the smallest BOXER period.. WHAT DOES being Black have to do with it?:dunno:
because frankly i dont know any black males his size boxing wise, its just a question. i was just curious
