New Interview With Dan Goossen: Talks Mayweather, Toney and Paul Williams

We know that if he’d chosen to fight Paul Williams he’d have had that higher profile opponent he was supposedly looking for. It’s beyond me that a fighter sits there and accuses someone else of ducking him when he’s got his mandatory sitting right there staring him in the face with a man who’s been on HBO in his last two fights. If he were to beat Paul Williams it would put Antonio Margarito in a position to get bigger fights. But as long as he keeps doing what he’s doing in fighting these unknowns –like he’s doing on Dec. 2nd- it doesn’t move him forward. FF: We’ve done several interviews with Paul Williams where he’s been calling for Margarito, so I’ve been listening to how that whole situation unfolded and the only thing I heard them say on the topic was that Williams priced himself out of being an option for Margarito’s December 2nd date. Is there any truth to that whatsoever? DG: No. We weren’t even able to discuss it with Top Rank. They knew of our desire to fight Antonio Margarito on December 2nd and our calls were never returned. FF: I know you just touched on this, but is it fair for Margarito to call himself the most avoided man in boxing when he’s overlooking Paul Williams like this? DG: As I just mentioned Ace, if you’re going to call yourself the most avoided man in the business you’d better make sure you’re not avoiding anyone. There’s a difference if it’s some up and comer trying to crack the top ten calling you out the same way Margarito isn’t really deserving of calling out the top fighter himself, but Paul Williams is ranked number one and is the mandatory challenger for a long over due defense. Williams would give Margarito the opportunity to showcase his talent. When you call yourself the most avoided man in boxing and then do everything you can –for whatever reason- to avoid your mandatory challenge, you really hurt your claim of being an avoided fighter."

What is it with you and some other posters, that always make it a race issue? When a Floyd fan talks about Floyd and were argueing do i say somthing dumb like, "its always the Black fans that stand up for the obiouvious ducking" Its not a Mexican thing, you root for your fighters, i root for mine. Get race out of your head. As for the Williams issue i would like Williams to offer Margarito millions to fight him this december ,then if Margarito doesn't break off that Clottey deal i'll say he's ducking Williams. Williams is a step back for Margarito but he'll have to beat him just like he beat Cintron. Im white as it comes and mayweather and williams are a different class then margo... you r talking up a guy that got beat by a few guys that r longer in the sport... dream on... Margo is a great fighter, im not doubting that and one of the best in his class.. Honestly though, mayweather would gain nothing by beating his ass.... no one cares who margo is or would pay to see PBF beat his ass... he has never beat anyone worth a damn and if i were him, i would not find williams either because he would lose everything... I can understand the logic that margarito is using, but in actuality it's not even the same scenario. williams is Margarito mandatory, he is the #1 challenger. margarito was never Floyd's mandatory. Floyd never said he was the most feared in boxing and fought a #5 ranked challenger. Your actually strengthening the argument by saying that because this sitation is actually worse. lol. There is just real defense for this, however, its not a big deal to me because i dont care too much for margarito or williams. But my "logic" i meant how he is saying "the fight will be bigger down the line" which Ferocity is attempting to use in favor of Margarito as far as building names up. You just cant run to that when Floyd was saying THE EXACT SAME THING and nobody wanted to hear it. Regardless, Margarito didint even say that, and even if he did, it wouldnt matter, unlike floyd he goes through a promoter, Floyd just does as he pleases and calls his own shots for the most part.

LOL! Im glad people are building up Williams, the more people build him up the more hate Margarito is going to get for beating Williams up. When Margarito taps that chin, Williams legs are going to turn to jello, and through out the fight Williams will do his best impression of john ruiz and thats before he even gets hurt. Then after Williams ko lose to Margarito, i predict Williams chin becomes even more fragile or at least at Cintron level. Thanks thats all I was waiting for. This is clearly a ducking issue. Williams has the buzz to warrant interest for a fight with Margarito. Margarito knows a loss to Williams kills any hopes of him fighting Floyd, and hurts his pockets something awful. Williams and his team want the fight. HBO wants it. Fans want the fight. The story Arum made up about Williams outpricing himself was a lie. :nonono: Ive posted this in about 20 threads but the reason why it was never discussed is due to the fact that Margarito is fighting on Showtime, Paul Williams who is also supported by Al Haymon are on HBO, Arum could potentially be outbid in a pursebid easily, therefore its impossible to make the accusation of "outpricing". Its just not logical by whats been stated. Not to mention, Williams doesnt do his own negotiating, so how is that even possible? Williams seemed pretty reasonable in his interview, so i doubt he would even try to outprice himself for a piece of shit belt against a above average fighter with virtually no name.

Goosen would have no reason to lie, and then continiously bring it up. Arum's the one who made one statement and then didn't say another peep. Again: there's nothing you can say to justify his actions. Like him all you want, he just looked like a hypocrite ducking Paul Williams. Arum and Margarito have commented on it once that I'm aware of, and it was BS. You believe arum because you're up Margarito's ass because he's a Mexican fighter. It's blind nuthugging. Because the only time I see someone desperatly defending Margarito for not fighting Williams, it's someone with a sig full of Mexican fighters. You and a select few others have gone ape shit over Floyd not fighting Tony, and then you put blinders on when Margarito turns around and did it just as bad if not worse. Nothing you can say is going to change what happned. Williams was an option before the Clottey fight was signed. Williams was his mandatory, and was a fighter with some acclaim and exposure behind him. Everything that Tony needed for his next fight.
