I know it's not far enough removed from the fight for something like this, but is anybody else's immediate reaction to this fight just sickness for the sport? I mean this is not like Hatton edging Collazo, Barrera eking out a win over Juarez, or the Taylor-Wright draw, which were all rightful decisions and close fights. Toney-Peter was not a close fight. Toney won 8 rounds and got an extra point for Peter's illegal tactics, which were out of frustration. Nobody has ever heard of any of the three judges from tonight. This was a robbery when Toney took a risk and deserved a win he badly needed. He is going to be robbed of becoming HW champion despite proving all of his doubters wrong. HE'S A FAT OLD MAN AND HE'S STILL THE BEST TECHNICAL HEAVYWEIGHT IN THE WORLD. He gets a raw deal because he's rude and obnoxious and the queezy fans of the sport can't take it nor can the promoters who don't control him. He took on what you guys said was the biggest puncher in the division, took his punches well, AND BEAT HIM IN EVERY ROUND BUT TWO OR THREE. This is just fucking sickening to me right now. Oh but I'm sure some Peter fan/Toney hater out there can justify a scorecard for Peter and you know what? Screw them. Robbery on a big fight level = black eye on boxing.
True, but can we say the same about the 147, 140, 105, 108, HW? Those are a few I remember right now in which they're milking thier champs.
I aggree about those weight classes.
Where you been? Erik Morales started a trend a few years ago where he fights everybody and every tough opponet near his weight class, the trend is still going on today, 122-130 they fight whom ever. Also the 135 pound division is makeing great fights too. Other honerable mentions aswell.

i feel the same way to a certain extent. they are ripping us fans off. with shitty scoring and bad officiating they try and play US fans as if we are retarded, like we can't tell who won the fight, like we won't know that it's corrupt judging by the out come.
it makes me upset that they think we are all dumb, like we have ZERO intelligence when it comes to boxing.
i don't follow any other sport(part time baseball fan), boxing is the only one that is worth a damn to me, as far as sport and skill are concerned. it's one of the toughest sport out there and one of the most dangerous, and yet they treat it with no respect. poor judging and a multitude of other bad elements are sinking this sport into extinction, slowly but more steadly it's progressingly getting worse. with the way they're running boxing it's only a matter of time before it goes under and we have NO great sport of stand up fighting. it's not IF it's WHEN.
the most corrupt major sport I know
Boxing appears to me to be the most corrupt sport that I know, the only sport in which all too often the "winner" of a fight is not the man who performed the best. There are just too many examples of poor or corrupt judging, weak and poorly trained referees and promoters that in all likelihood can influence the judging of a fight.
I will remain a boxing fan but a lot of my enthusiasm is gone. It's gotten to the point where only real boxing fans who know the history of the sport and understand the rules can remember who really won a fight, not who got the decision by corrupt or incompetent judges. Casual fans will never know in the case of close fights. It's a damn shame.
Thread turned out just like I thought it would. Glad to see so many of our better posters feel the same way I do about the fight last night and the bad taste it leaves in our mouths. I think I'm done posting here for a while.
I agree. I'm also sick of watching the very best fighters take only their must profitable options on fights. Wish we could go back to the days when the best fought the best for the fans and to prove themselves.

I think the large numbers of recent 'robberies' is not only sad but stupid. Here is a sport alot of people say is on the decline, competing with a sport on the rise (mma), and it just continues to happen.
don't like it? stop watching boxing then. controversy is part of boxing. live with it or fuck off. or, alternatively, you could come tit about it in a thread like this, making you feel better.
resistance to seeds of social change to preserve the mantainance of the status quo are for those of an invevitable dying breed
If those two judges were not paid to score the fight, then they must be blind and we're all stupid. I mean, come on, give me a fucking break. 116-111????????
If you think Boxing doesnt have corruption in it, your a "newbie" fan, its buisness, corruption comes along with it.
Very true.

One of the judges, Gale Van Hoy, scored Barrera-Pacquiao and as 1 sided as the fight was for Manny, Gale actually had Barrera winning more rounds than many of us would have imagined, prior to the stoppage.
How are those judges even be allowed to keep scoring fights? It's killing the sport.

Twas one of those fights that made me so fucking mad. There is no way anybody should Peter winning this fight. Toney fought a perfect fight and was tagging Peter with jabs and straight rights all night. Toney was robbed plain and simple and anybody who doesn't think so, hates Toney or doesn't know boxing.

the cumulative effect of bad decisions, fake promotions and hype, shady underground business, no actual single boxing association or league, corrupt sanctioning bodies, and hand picked opponents instead of a bracket style system have convinced me to watch boxing less as of lately.
in fact i probably won't post much anymore.
that fight left a bad taste in my mouth.
of course it could have been the cheap beer and even cheaper pussy.
This was a very close fight most people try to make it look like
JT won by a land slid. In the beginning of every fight tony starts good but perter finish better.
I think your bum ass needs to sit the next few fight's on the sidelines...Before you become even more of a loser lol..
Or atleast find somthin else to place your emotions in..
LOL!
I think he needs more fighters to root for.
