jermain taylor does NOT give me the impression of a strong middleweight, he couldn't even bully 40 year old hopkins around yet HBO kisses his ass. hagler in my opinion was a stronger harder-hitting fighter than taylor. hell....taylor didn't even look stronger than wright to me.
hagler did'nt have a weakness, second only to ray robinson at 160lb
hey dumbie..theirs a whole lot of people that could beat ray robinson @ 160..he's best weight was 147...every heard of roy jones? how about james toney? toney is impossible to hurt in lower weights
Hagler was a truly great fighter, a warrior. Marvin was not a monster from a strength standpoint because he was not a huge MW
(about 5'9?) but to say he wasn't a physically strong fighter would speak volumes about someone's boxing knowledge or lack thereof. Hagler IMO was a much better MW than Robinson, as welter was Robinson's best weight and by the time he fought at MW he had been on the downhill slide for some time. You will not see a much more complete fighter than Hagler, ever. He could brawl, and I feel his boxing skills are underrated by most casual boxing fans and even by some hardcore fans. Whatever some may feel he lacked in brute strength however, he more than made up for in sheer will and toughness, the man was simply unstoppable and had some of the heaviest hands I have seen on a MW, it's been said many times, and it's true, his jab was like another fighter's straight right hand. For someone to try to downplay what Marvin accomplished and what he's given to the sport would be a disservice to boxing and it's fans.
thats a fuckin brilliant clip,he definately lives up 2 his name
Its one of the best fights ever.
An absolute all time classic which no one will EVER disagree with.
To appreciate it more u have to watch the fights between Hearns, Leonard, Duran and Hagler.
(I showed Hagler-Hearns to somone for the first time....my work here is done) :D
bald one :D
You'll find plenty of Hagler fights at Youtube. And check out hearns vs hagler. thats a must see.
Hagler had a pretty good chin.
You can also find Hagler fights on P2P like kaz, limewire or Bearshare. I am sure there are Hagler fights on torrent as well. I will post some Hagler fights for you soon. In the mean time, you might wanna check what Yaman and I have suggested as alternatives for now. Peace.
Well you are truly missing some great fights.
Named Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year for 1983 and 1985.
Inducted into both the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1993.
IMO, had it not been for Bob Arum we may never have got to see Hagler at all. (Hagler was like the Winky Wright of the sport where he had to fight overseas)

azza-mc, you really need to get a copy of at least the FAB 4 as it's known. Fights include, Hagler/Hearns/RayLeonard/Duran.
Maybe, just maybe I will rip them and upload them when I have time.
Hagler is great! Strenght? Endurance, metal toughness. He was strong on the inside and had a devestating left hand. You wanna see a Hagler war? 3 rounds of non stop action? vs Hearns. Maybe my favorite fight.
ive heard of them fights, heard about him 2,jus never had the chance 2 watch him,i know he was great tho jus from readin the posts on here
Haglers determination and iron will was best shown in the John Mugabi bout. Hearns had already been defeated, although he was still regarded as an absolute killer.
Mugabi was also regarded as a savage, bruising puncher. Nobody had ever seen him exposed, he was just this brute with a perfect KO record. Hagler ate everything Mugabi hit him with (some of the hardest punches I have ever seen landed) and just kept chopping him down with that beautiful jab and those little uppercuts inside. Mugabi gave him everything he had and showed VERY underrated skills, but Hagler just took the fight to another level. One of the most underrated brawls of all-time right there.
ive never seen any marvin hagler fights or any action atall, could sum 1 upload a fight or 2?

dont be stupid...you cant really believe a guy who fought all his fights in argentina being the best at anything
Dino have you ever seen Monzon fight?
Yes or no.
Mozon was a better middleweight than Hagler or SRR in my opinion. That guy was just a titan at middleweight. Immensely strong, determined, and durable as well as skilled. Hagler was one of the best conditioned boxers of the modern era, and the hard work he put in at the gym was there for anyone to see in his chiseled torso, but Monzon was much stronger and overall more of a complete package. I mean, the guy was a light heavyweight on stilts who was also a patient and well schooled boxer.

It was only when Hagler was a boxer that he didn't show his real strength i think, in the mugabi fight, Hagler's feet and hands were slower than they once were, his upper body fluidity movement was slower but when he began to slug with mugabi he bullied him around the ring.
Right on! Hagler owed his success more to his heart, skill, and intelligence than brute strength. The iron chin didn't hurt him either though.
Guys like Greb, Ketchel, Monzon were much stronger, rougher, and more physical fighters than Hagler. Even Bernard Hopkins I think would have been the stronger man on the inside in a fight between the two. I think people are too easily swayed by physiques.
Tyson was another guy with a deceptive physique. Great explosive puncher and an underrated counter puncher but by no means an exceptionally strong fighter. If he was as strong as he looked, he wouldn't have gotten bulled around and tied up as easily.

Right on. I always liked Hagler, but frankly some people are making him into something he wasn't. He was an excellent technician, with good power, and an iron chin. He was also strong, but he wasn't a monster on the inside. Vito Antuofermo basically had his way with Hagler in their first fight with all of his roughhouse, head first, hold and maul tactics, and Marvin couldn't cope. And Vito was an extremely limited boxer whose skills were nothing compared to Hagler's.
It wasn't until the second half of his career, where he started slowing down, and was forced to walk through fire to get his own shots off, that Hagler became known as Mr. "Destruct and Destroy". His fight with Hearns was a classic, where his chin and conditioning were what carried the day. But I can't say he would beat Monzon, who I really consider to be the best middleweight ever (with the possible exception of Harry Greb, who no one alive today has seen).
(Ed. Ok, Vito didn't have his way with Hagler, but he made it much much tougher than it should have been...)
