This fight HAS NOT BEEN MADE YET. But it has been discussed on several websites. What do people think about the possible match? What do people think about the possible outcomes?
My opinion was that Clottey was not very impressive in winning. I think that Margarito would dominate him and eventually KO him. Clottey seemed to have a pretty good chin but Gutierrez definitely doesn't punch like Margarito. Cloettey seemed to have a good body attack also. But he didn't seem very fluid and didn't put his punches together well. And for a guy that supposedly runs 12 miles a day, he looked incredibly tired towards the end of the fight. Did other people have different impressions... I don't want to rag on him too hard as this is the first of his fights that I have seen.
you sound like a hater...
why is that?
Charlie I was beginning to think you were banned... ha. What do you think about this possible match up? I don't think Clottey is a bad opponent but I don't think his style presents a challenge to Margarito
He is suspended in Vegas, that is it. You've been around boxing long enough to know that if you get suspended in Nevada most other commissions won't license a fight for you, either.
Back on topic, I think Clottey-Margarito would be a very good fight. I've seen Clottey a couple of times, and he's a pretty decent fighter and very tough. The problem with the fight the other night is that they were so close he was smothering himself. He needs a few more inches to get the proper pop on his punches. Margarito might give him that since they both like to fight close, but not chest-to-chest. I think Margarito would win, but it would be a great fight to watch.
Never given a chance?
He never sought out the chance!
Sorry, but that is a crock of shit. Like I said, you don't even know. He begged for Mosley and Mayorga to fight him, and they never did. They considered him too much risk for too little reward.
Cintron is a 'good' but not great fighter. Santos is a 'good' but not great fighter. Although Santos was at 154. Lewis was a fighter with good skills, but a bad chin. These wins along with his history of success at 147 vs whoever he COULD get to fight him make him worthy of a number 2 rating by RING.
No one says Marg is even p4p top 10 though, so hacking on his resume is pointless. PBF is the one who says he is p4p number 1.
He hasn't handpick his oppoents anymore than anyone else did. Mosley said he wasn't ready for Tony, and Tony was never even given a chance at 147 by the champs there (Mos, Forrest, Mayorga). You obviously did not pay attn to what happened at 147 when Tony was there.

He was content to fight Danny Perez, Maurice Brantley and Hercules Kyvelos!
clottey is strong.. so is margarito.. good fight man.. although clottey didnt look great in his last fight.. he definately has potential.. i cant see him getting Koed..

Who has anyone else beaten to be ranked number 2? Enough said. You're wasting your time. Marg has been undefeated for years there, and there haven't been that many good fighters there anyway to beat. If you can think of 1 or 2 ppl that should be ranked ahead of him that aren't already, you're just reachin from your ass.
Exactly.
Tony has never really beaten a good fighter, hes handpicked him opposition so he could stay undefeated for so long.
He has argubly the worst record of any other champion in boxing today.
What about Mosley, DLH, Mayorga, Forrest, Quartey, Judah or Spinks???
All guys that were around at 147 when Tony was champ.
And Margirito didnt even fight ONE of those guys.
whos margo ever beat to be num. 2
He may not have beaten the elite of the elite, but he has beaten anybody that challenged him and he holds a title. The only person I could even argue to put in front of him would be Collazo and it would be hard to do that since he is coming off of a loss. Williams and Quintana have not beaten anybody as good as Cintron (and I am not a big Cintron fan); Zab is coming off of 2 straight losses so you can't really put him there. Other than those guys I don't see who you could rate at #2.

You know what I notice about you...youll use that logic in favor of Margarito, but disregard it when it comes to Mayweather. Why do you do that? It just looks hypocritical.
You just aren't paying attention. Margarito is rated number 2 in the world at 147. Ishe Smith has not fought at 147 for 2-3 years. Williams has beaten even less caliber than Cintron has. These guys are not even top 10 at 147 and do not deserve a fight with Marg just because they WANT it.
Floyd on the other hand was offered $8 million from the number 2 ranked guy...if you can't see the difference, I'm not going to try any further to show you.
Clottey isn't an overly huge welterweight. He's very physically strong, but he isn't very tall or long armed. His main advantages would be his handspeed and athletic ability. I'd bet he could get off 2-1 against Margarito while still being able to defend himself well enough to avoid being badly hurt.
It was kind of hard to get a good feel for Clottey from that last fight because the fight was an ugly fight in general. I was lucky enough to see some of his fight with Jeff Hill...he looked better in that performance than he did here.
Anybody have Clotteys fight with Baldomir? I'm assuming no, but it'd be cool to see it.
I want to see that fight with Baldomr also but I think its almost impossible to get. Kellerman was saying he still hasn't seen the fight on the BAD broadcast. From what I have heard, this was a bad stoppage but the fight was filled with fouls. The undisputed part was that Clottey apparently was winning easily. Although I want to say that this means he is a decent opponent for Margarito, Baldomir just doesn't have the pop to counteract his sluggishness that Margarito does.
Just because you call Tony out doesn't mean you deserve a fight with him.

All of Nevada actually, but yeah, that basically means Vegas. However, as with most suspensions, the other states usually follow suit and disallow a fighter to fight there. Larry Hazzard of Jersey is CONSIDERING letting Judah fight...but may not due to the custom of following suit with whatever Nevada's commission does.
I think Zab could be an interesting match for a few rounds, but this isn't the right fight right now. Margarito will catch the criticism that Zab is coming off of two straight losses and has the distraction of this whole child support thing hanging over his head.
Better Zab that Clottey.
He is suspended in Vegas, that is it.

Williams can call Marg out all he wants, but if Marg doesn't fight him it's of no importance. Williams needs to beat Sharmba in his upcoming fight 1st. Judah is suspended, but Quintana is a good fight for Tony that can be made...but Tony will probably face Rivera, if Rivera really wants the fight.
"Clottey's main advantage is his size and that will not be an issue against Margarito." -agreed
