Can recall fights in which you wanted neither guy to win due to the fact that you liked both boxers a lot? Are there any upcoming fights that you feel like this about?
I get this feeling about a pair of upcoming fights...the first being Quartey/Forrest...the second being Toney/Peter. Ike Quartey has been one of my favorite fighters of the past 10 years and I have a lot of respect for what he does in the ring. I pull for Quartey in every fight he's in. I will be pulling for him when he fights Forrest, but I will be somewhat unhappy about a W for him because Forrest is a good guy and a good fighter. Both of these guys deserve shots at the big time, they both should be applauded for fighting each other when they probably don't have to in order to get back to a title shot.
Toney is my favorite fighter today. I don't like the Peter matchup because Peter is a good kid with a bright career out ahead of him and I suspect Toney will beat him. If Toney does in fact beat him it'll bump Sam back down a couple of notches and will give him a tough road to another title shot (unless he gives a great account of himself in that loss). Should Peter beat Toney I would be unhappy for obvious reasons.
Peter has no skill whatsoever. He has a big punch and a solid chin. Remember the last guy that had those attributes? He won zero titles and lost the three biggest fights of his career. I'll give you a hint: he was on Wednesday Night Fights tonight.
Peter can be a good solid contender but nothing more.
None of this is a reason NOT to like him. You think people should only like fighters who are successful? Are you a frontrunner or something?
People like Peter because he ALWAYS comes to fight, he tries his hardest, and he's not an asshole. He's a pretty modest guy who has an exciting style and could always potentially take his opponent out if he plays his cards right.
I'd say this is reason enough to like him. Above all, he is good for the heavyweight division.
because i see a lot of potential in him. and i like toney but at this stage of his career i can't see him really dominating the division at all. and to me its like judah losing to baldamir. it shouldn't have happened that way and now judah is still young and labeled a bum by many people and i want to see a new exciting hw spice up the division and start winning some titles.

I don't think I have ever been in that situation, but theres some matchups I hope never materialize becuase I dont want to root against either fighter, particularly Shane Mosley vs Zab Judah.
Johnny Tapia vs Paulie Ayala
Paulie Ayala vs Erik Morales
Wright vs Trinidad
Tyson vs Lewis ( I wanted to see Tyson get knocked out which he did but at the same time wanted to see Tyson knock Lewis's head off )
not to pick on you, but I noticed a lot of people picked this one. why are there so many Peter fans? what has he ever done? not criticizing, just curious as to why people like him.

Pac-Morales-Barrera, those 3 is always a tough one. Any of those 2 against each other.
Even though I saw both fights way after they happened, Benn-Eubank 1&2
Wright-Trinidad
Vargas-Trinidad
Oh theres been LOTS of fights where I wanted both guys to KO each other in hopes of not having to see either again.
Believe it or not, I actually felt that way about DLH-Vargas. Totally different personalities and styles (the gangsta and the backstreet boy), they both hated each other, but I like both of them as fighters and in some ways, as people.
Also, it seemed pretty stupid to me that everyone who didn't know boxing had a favorite, if it was DLH is was mostly old people who liked his pretty-boy image, and if they rooted for Vargas chances are they were young kids just rooting for the thug.
On a side note, I appreciate the fact that even though they're both born and raised in Cali they represent Mexico all the time, from their ring entrances to their mouthpiece to what they say in interviews. Which only makes it strange that they both fought for the US in the Olympics. Whatever, I like them both.
Found myself rooting for both sides in, among others:
Elorde-Saddler
Leonard- Benitez
Sanchez- Nelson
Sanchez- Gomez
Nelson- Gomez
Pryor- Arguello
Arguello- Ganigan
Arguello- Mancini
Holyfield- Foreman
Barrera-Morales (all three)
Toney-Rachman

Toney-Rahman was just that for me, and I got my wish. A DRAW!!! So Toney maintains a good heavyweight ranking, but Rahman retains his title. It was just a bonus that Rahman deserved to win because I told everyone leading up to the fight that Rahman was the only heavyweight who could give Toney trouble. I love being right, and I love that neither of them left the ring with a loss that night.
Good Question!
Gerald McClellan vs. Julian Jackson...
Talk about being all torn up-how does that saying go...when your mother and father are fighting you dont root for one to beat the other you just hope they stop fighting.
