what r u takin about. im talkin about when he fought like once a month nd stuff. and has 15 fights in 85 and i think 12 in 86 and 5 in 87
OK I see what you're saying. Typically fighters do fight a lot more when they're starting out, with Tyson it was even more so, I think 'cause his handlers had a lot of confidence in him.
See, their is a big differnce when you are talking about Johnson, Ali and Quarry well made not Quarry, but i dont know enough about him if he showed signs or not.
But Johnson had signs even before he fought Chavez its been talked about that he had a bleeding of the brain but some how still got the fight. And Ali, i've also heard signs of him to stop fighting was shown way back even signes of mental damage. And i've heard the same about Bobby Chacon.
edit; about Quarry i've heard his sparring with his brothers are legendary.
I think by the time signs of mental damage show up its too late. Even if you quit at that point your condition is going to get worse.
That's such a retarded arguement it's not even funny.
That's like saying, "Well my uncle has been smoking for 40 years and he doesn't have lung cancer, so it's clear that cigarettes don't cause lung cancer"
Brain damage like cigaretts effects fighters differently.
But, as i said, boxing is not the sport for you if you fear brain damage.
True, but it doesn't mean a fighter has to tempt fate by taking every opportunity to get brain damage.
And on the other hand you've got examples like Leavander Johnson, Ali, and the Quarry brothers.

Tyson fought past the point he wanted to. Louis too. Make sure you pay your taxes.

If a boxer is afraid of brian damage he's in the wrong sport.

Fighters like Chavez, Ramierz, Duran all had long career and fought often and still talk with no problems.
I've heard Carlos Ortiz and Jake Lamotta talk awhile back and they speak fine and they are in old aga already.

Louis gave back and still the governement fucken him over.

I read many valid points, and i aggree fear is one.

tyson did it so well in his hayday. i hope i can fight as much as he did

If a fighter's reached the point where he can get big money fights than he'll just wait for the those fights to come up. If you fight just to be fighting you'll shorten your career as the mileage adds up.
another reason is waiting for the results of another fight to scout potential opponents. you aren't going to fight just for the sake of fighting when you're one of the top names in the sport.
jabz, it is my theory that mayweather is actually afraid of losing. it's not that there is a lot of competition capable of puting a beating on flyd, but i just get the feeling that his undefeated record means more to him than making great fights.
omg. i've never thought of that. prolly one of the best analyzations of that situation I've ever heard

I say this because Floyd is one of my favorite fighters and fought back in April and has yet to even pick another fight yet alone train for like 2 months.
really, there are quite a few answers to this question. many factors that you have to consider. for example:
- most boxers take a couple of months to prepare for a fight, especially if there's a belt or high ranking on the line.
- fighters need a few months r&r.
- sometimes it can be tricky finding opponents(carefully managed fighters, promoter rivalries, etc).
- the more you fight, the more you can lose(on many levels).
- spending quality time with the fam.
- etc.
All the real good boxers take like 5-6 months between fights. It slows the sport down.
in fights that are competive sometimes there are cuts and stuff they need to heel, but sometimes take the Golota Bowe 2 fight for example sometimes they take to much punishment and either have to retire or take a long time off
