actually its not debatable. on the cards, he was winning...whether you or any other fan had rahman winning or losing doesn't matter. rahmans jabs and back punching didn't impress me...whereas toneys clean power shots did simple as.
wow you couldn't have contradicted yourself any worse...moron.
how did I contradict myself? I said I was fine with the draw even though Rahman got robbed. Toney and Rahman are my two favorite heavyweights so I didn't want to see either lose. Read my post, MORON. :D
Peter lacks boxing skilss but he can crack. After the Rahman fight Toney had to go to the hospital for all the body shots he took from him. Imagine fighting Peter. This is going to be a good fight. Peter can crack and has good stamina.
very very debatable statement there. I know he would have won a split decision if he won the 12th, but those judges were smoking crack that night because Toney didn't win 6 rounds. Rahman was robbed, but since they're two of my 5 favorite fighters, I was perfectly fine with the draw. but Rahman was definitely robbed.

man, do i love this match up. who says the division is crap these days. things have been heating up lately: the rahman/maskaev rematch could be fun. klitschko took on the most dangerous puncher besides himself, peter, and got byrd out of the scene and heavyweight division. now klitschko's fighting another big puncher in briggs. we had an awesome fight between brewster and liakhovich not long ago. ibragimov and austin fighting for the # 1 spot in the ibf, this could help us gauge how good sultan is or can be, although i question how much of a test ray austin will be.
now james toney is stepping up to fight the second biggest puncher in the division. in my opinion, the heavyweight match ups in the last couple of years have been fairly good overall. i just hope the alphabets don't keep throwing mandatories at the current champs so we can get at least one goddamn unification fight!
toney/peter: i really don't see how toney will be able to dent peter. peter has an excellent poker face so it's a bit hard to tell when he is really hurt - which so far has only been in the klitschko fight a few times even though wladimir was sticking to boxing instead of trying for a KO. peter, i believe, does have the power to hurt toney. james was stunned a couple of times when he fought rahman, and rahman, although may be a smarter and better trained fighter, doesn't seem to still have the edge on his punches that he once had. or atleast he did not show it.
jt has good solid D, but in viewing his last 3 fights he has shown to be very stationary and frequently lays against the ropes to help recover his wind. if peter's trainer knows what he is doing, peter will attack toney when he is on the ropes and know the times when not to - such as when toney is playing possum and/or trying to make his opponent punch himself out.
both guys have questionable stamina if they are constantly pressured. for some reason though, i wouldn't be surprised to see peter trying to box more than he did then in his bout with younger klitschko. that may lead to a lot of boos from the crowd of people who are "part-time" boxing fans. toney is obviously the better schooled fighter with more tricks up his sleeves, but one or two good solid punches are sometimes all one needs. especially with the heavies. i remember one peter fight where sam stood over his bent over opponent and put all his momentum into an extremely dangerous downward chopping punch to the back of his opponents head, sending his opponent head first into the canvass. that was scary shit. aside from rahman, who seemed too hesitant to really let his hands go, this will be one hell of a chin check for toney. remember, no matter how slick you are, you are not going to avoid every punch.
this is true, but i remember his fight with robert hawkins from last year. it went to the cards, but it seemed that the only reason it did was because peter wanted to show that he could box, and wasn't just merely a one dimentional slugger. in total, he's went the distance five times, with one loss out of those. and out of those five fights, only one was scheduled for 12. only his fight with klitschko had any major importance. but from that one fight, we have seen that he had really tried to impress everybody by knocking out klitschko. not smart.
in the end, i think it may really come down to what strategy jt and peters will be using. i like peter if he mixes a bit of boxing in between spurts of continuous and relentless attacks with KO intent. i like toney if peter simply tries to outbox him.
I can totally agree with that J. If Peter goes head hunting and tries to knock Toney out then he will loose and run out of gas because he will not have a target to hit. He has to apply constant pressure to James and never let up. He also must realize that James head doesnt get hit so you have to go body hunting. If Peters trainers watch the Ike Ibeabuchi vs Chris Byrd fight (and learn a few things from it) they will see that the key is body attack!!

You guys have to also remember that its not like peter has crushed every one he has fought he has been the distance before agienst guys eith neither the skill nor the chin of toney.

This fight is going to be crazy good. Why because neither toney nor peter are even remotly scared of each other. This fight is going to be chest to chest the entire fight. Crazy enough even with peters huge power his power comes from winging shot not technical punching which is needed to fight inside. Toney has a great chin and heart in the ring. I do not see toney being KO by just one shot not even from peter. I also think toneys activity if he comes in shape is going to pose all sorts of problems for peter. Like the rahman fight it is toneys fat lazy ass to lose. I just don't think peter has the ring smarts to deal with an inshape and win hungry toney. You guys have to also remember that its not like peter has crushed every one he has fought he has been the distance before agienst guys eith neither the skill nor the chin of toney. Toney UD 116-112 or so. This will be an on edge fight there will be some boring rounds where not much will happen but I will say there will be 7 good solid rounds of action. Toney will be knocked down in this fight and hard but I think thats how it will go a couple of even rounds peter will win a couple but toney will control the fight
he also swings wider, is less experienced, and is not as skilled as rahman. rahman had a gameplan, stuck to it, and used his jab to try and beat toney. even so, rahman was losing going into the last round of that fight and he was in the shape of his life.
toney will really punish peter if he's in any better shape than he was last fight. wide decision.

if you know anything about boxing whatsoever, then you know that barring serious weight issues, this fight is about as easy for Toney as any in the division could be right now
Toney will have to run for his life, Toney has no power to hurt Peter, the guy is a beast, he is probably twice as strong as Toney so how will Toney shoulder block a guy comming at him like a bull !
Rahman is slow as shit ,and he could hit Toney , Peter is a little bit faster then Rahman and he hits harder !
This is it for Toney , HE WILL GET KNOCKED OUT !
Toney will get murdered he will try that shoulder tuck shit but you cant let Peter hit you even on the shoulders all night or you wont be able to keep your arms up.
Unless Peter's a dumbass, he won't fight like he usually does (against Toney).
he's fought the same way in all his fights. he's an unpolished clubber that uses his physical strength to win over weak opposition

rahman may have been losing on the cards going into the last round but he sure wasnt in reality
he was hittable in his last fight. peter doesnt throw as often as rahman but is stronger and hits harder

it could also be very embarrasing for peter and peter fans such as yourself if toney comes in shape and hasnt turned into an old well past his prime fighter
...I wouldn't exactly say I'm a Peter fan, but I would definitely rather see him in the mix than Toney, Rahman, Ruiz, Byrd, etc. etc.
....Holy shit they do have it listed as a showtime fight on Sept 2nd. lol lol I hope Peter knocks his dick in the dirt. Certain Toney nuthuggers have also slagged off Peter as sucking and being second rate. This should be pretty funny.

you can't beat what you can't hit
Is this shit really on? look into sho.com/boxing ...
bad styles match up for peter,,,but if toney looks the same as his last fight peter's physical strength and power could be enough to win. if toney is able to get back in the same shape as when he fought holyfield he'll torture peter with his defense and speed and win a decision. all depends on which toney shows up in my opinion
