I mean all i ever hear was vargas is so exciting to watch hes the mexican micky Ward...are they serious?? i mean i have watched about 12 of his fights and i dont think hes exciting at all. Most of the time i watch him hes taking sever punishment just to land one hard shot..hes very average and i wouldnt be surprised if mosley stopped him again. Then after that fight maybe we wont have to see vargas again cause i really dont like him.
hes a good fighter, he is done now. but he had some good fights. he over powered many oppnents, but after oscar Knocked him out he came back and never looked the same.
he WAS a good fighter..he is done now...thats what you meant to say..Vargas is not the vargas of old..he look horrible against sugar and will look worst in the next fight...
his fight with tito was very exciting, its one of my favorite fights.
vargas is pretty exciting, but hes not really the kind of fighter who will give you the fight of the year every time he fights. his fights with castillejo and joval were snoozers.

correction, after Tito knocked him out and gave him a beating he was never the same.

Wrong, you mean after TITO destroyed him, he never looked the same. All experts say that Tito destroyed Vargas' career, just like he did to Campas, Carr, Thaim, Joppy, and recently Steward stated that Mayorga suffered to much damage in the TITO fight(which was evident in his fights after tito, and before DLH).
Tito is known to destroy careers, Vargas unfortunately was just another victim.
Vargas came up short in every big money fight he was given. He was brought along too fast, and ruined quickly and hes constantly injured. He could have been great. Also, his fight with De La Hoya really took alot away from him, he talked so much shit and couldnt back it up. I never liked him after that fight. His win against Winky Wright is a bunch of bullshit, i garuntee if he would have lost that fight, he may have actually become a better fighter and really re-examine himself and his style.
thats cool. Last fight I saw was him and Ben Tackie. I have not seen the casamayor fight. I have not seen Reyes fight although I have seen clips of the Castillo fight. Still young.
yeah, hes defenetly still young enough where he can win some fight and good enough to get another title shot, but i don't think he wants to fight anymore.
i forget what was the cubans name but robert fought this other cuban fighter when he was defending his title and it was a war, he got knocked down twice and then ko'd him later in the rounds, robert was the under-dog but he came on strong and keep getting up and showed tons of heart and won.
fogot to add, after corrales he fougth 2 more fights then he was going to stay retired then they offered him a title shot with joel casamayor, and he was doing really good making the fight very close but then robert ran out of gas and casamayor just took over and got a tko. and he also trained mia st. john for awhile too. he's now the new trainer for rolando reyes and jose aguniga, both guys fight on tv regularly.
Acuttually now that i remember reading on fightnews they said reyes had a fight last tuesday that was going to be broadcasted on wnf, but they never showed his fight and i don't recall seeing the result of his fight. but i'll have to check and see if theirs any news of his fight.

thats cool. wuts up with Roberto Garcia these days ? he's not even that old. After corrales fight he went downhill...

i don't keep in touch with any of them.
But i now Robert is now training boxers. I see him on t.v a lot in the corner of boxers. Edwardo is assitant to Roberto cause at times I've seen them both in the corner of the same fighter.
Roberto has a younger brother in the amatures, he won many tournaments, I think he's 17-18 years old, i've never seen him fight but supposedly hes good fighter. I think once he turns pro we will be seeing him on t.v.
yeah, im from oxnard, i used to train at the boys and girls club at 7th street where edwardo garcia and his boxers were now training cause for awhile they closed down La Colonia Boxing Gym untill P.A.L got involved and renovated la colonia boxing gym.

i started out in one of the gyms vargas came from, and till this day its stills a trip to think of how much vargas has achieved....its like damn, i used to train next to that guy, wish i never quit boxing, lol, he deserves where hes at, he let no one get him down and let nothing distract him, i hope he wins his next fight, i'll be rooting for him

Man, Vargas got knocked down 2 times in that first fight with Trinidad and still came back to fight till the 12th and make it close. Thats heart. He was almost out in the 1st and dug deep to come back !
vargas does seem pretty average as a fighter

Man, Vargas won his first title when he was 20 yrs old or some shit. He was a great fight until he was destroyed by megafights with experienced fighters in Trinidad and De La Hoya. You gotta admire his desire for taking those fights, but they cost him his career as a GREAT fighter. Now he's just gonna be remembered as a very good one.
ali was in a brutal fight with frazier ali lost and came back and had big fights.
vargas had two fights after and KOed wih in 10.
people are in big fights all the time they lose and come back. tito didnt break him he just have him his first loss
ali never had to make weight, he determined his weight, cutting weight takes a toll on the body and mind, as well as the wars a fighters has had, and ali was past it many fights ago, but people still loved seeing him fight, and ali was a fighter and loved to fight, ali pulled off some dramatic wins, but he should have retired long ago cause he was not the same fighter, i think it was after the second frazier fight that people say he should have retired.
