Im sorry guys but I was watching the Hopkins fight last week and I know his personality and I just dont see a guy who will turn down big money or a guy who is finished boxing. Add to that the appeal in a Calzaghe fight. Hopkins has been in 160 his whole life and has only been known for that and now he moves up in one fight and wins the LHW title? How awesome is that? Now just think, that in one more fight he can win the SMW title? He will have set a record with 20 MW defenses, beat a very good LHW for the title, and beat a very good SMW for the title? That would be something that no one has done and he will have done it in 2 conecutive fights, after having been at 160 basically his whole career. Thats unheard of.
Tarver had a great name and Calzaghe now has a great name after killing Lacy. The only thing that would be perfect for me is to see Hopkins go to England but I know that wont happened. I wish some of our fighters would do it though because I think it adds more excitment and its like you agains the world. Alot of you might think that if Hopkins did fight him then he would want it to be at 175 where he would have the advantage but I think X would rather have another world title and he would want to know how he would feel at 168. Hopkins is a street cat and I dont see him leaving all that money on the table. He has alot to lose but so much to gain. If he beats Calzaghe then he's really really really a All Time Great that you might have to start considering putting over guys like Hagler and Leonard.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Joe Calzaghe, however, is hoping to lure Hopkins back into the ring. "I'll fight at whichever weight he wants, either at lightheavy or my favoured division, super middleweight. I'll go to America, as well, if that's the only stumbling block, I'll go anywhere at any time....I was devastated that Hopkins bashed Tarver up so badly and won, as I was planning Tarver as my big-pay day, that was my big pension fund. So Hopkins has cost me big-time."
I think he should take the fight, if he was to beat Cal, then i would 100% put him down as one of the greatest of all time, at the moment he will go down as a legend but not as one of the greatest of all time.
I think people on both sides of the argument are selling the other guy short. This fight could go either way. I have a lot of respect for Calzaghe, and enjoy watching him fight; however, I'm not a big fan. I am a fan of B-Hop, and a month ago, I would've said Joe would win. I thought Tarver would win a decision over the Executioner, and was shocked at the utter domination Hopkins showed. I thought he'd be undersized, but he actually looked bigger than the natural Light Heavyweight. I couldn't blame Bernard for retiring at this point, and going out on top, but I really want to see this fight. I agree with Scap that Calzaghe is probably by far the most active fighter that Hopkins could possibly fight, and that it would be a great challenge. Hopkins looked great at Light Heavyweight, though, and I think he would be excellent at 168, as well. I underestimated B-Hop, and he proved me wrong. I feel as though I underestimated Calzaghe as much in his bout with Lacy. Even though I've always thought Joe was a great fighter,I thought Lacy's youth and power would be too much for him. I was way off on both fights, and I think this one could go either way. I would be cheering for Bernard, but it would take another world class effort on his part to beat the Calzaghe that dismantled Lacy. However, if the Calzaghe that struggled in defenses against lesser fighters showed up, he'd be in trouble. This is a dream fight, and I really, really hope it happens. Ricky Hatton looked very vulnerable against a highly underrated Collazo, and I think Floyd would beat him; therefore, I agree that this could be a fight with higher anticipation for the fans. Even though I really want it to happen, Hopkins has been planning his retirement, and what a way to go out.
You must be the biggest Calzaghe homer in the world if you think this. You also must be very young and havent got to see a prime Hopkins when you were really knowlegable about the sport.
The fact Hopkins pulled out of their fight when it was all but signed eludes to the fact Hopkins himself had doubts. I did say 'I think' lol..leaving it open for debate. However this guy right now isn't exactly prime JC either, and true Hopkins has been a counterpuncher ever since I've been seeing him, so unless he morphs into this early Hopkins he doesn't beat Joe, he just gets outworked.
I don't think anybody in their right mind should underestimate "The Executioner". After all, isn't that what people did on June 10th?
thats for damn sure. Hopkins would make a good fight with Calzaghe. both like to work on the inside while tying up, and both like to get off shots where ever they can. i see both guys breaking each other down a bit, but i see Hopkins pulling out more tricks to get the win. i think Hopkins experience is enough to pull out a win against Calzaghe.
don't forget Hopkins is the master at creating the right fight plan. and if he again lets his hands go he will execute it without a problem.
but with all that being said, he aint coming out of retirement.............
I seriously dont see how hopkins can win this fight. He wont even be able to catch calzaghe and if he does calzaghe will just land a flurry on him. Hopkins will probably duck this fight.
Real boxing fans seem to have changed their tune since the 12 round beating their boy Lacy took.
My money would be on a Calzaghe UD by about 4 rounds. A defeat wouldn't harm Hopkins' legacy one iota either.
joe beating b hop at any point in his carreer is just a laughable. B-hop over joe every day of the week and twice on sunday. this guy joe is good but not that good.
PS. Real boxing fans knew that lacy had a punchers chance at best.
I don't think Hopkins could ever have beaten Calzaghe and definetely not now. Though if he did beat JC that would write some serious pages in the history books.

That Hopkins would kill Calzaghe. Joe would be lucky to win a round. All you know about is the counter punching Hopkins. Go watch some of his old tapes when he didnt know what the word "counter" punch meant. He would bring the fight to you from round 1 through round 12 and would rough you up bad. Go watch his fights with Keith Holmes and anything before.
That Hopkins was on a whole different level then anything Calzaghe could bring
its up to B-HOP if he will accept the fight coz he said that the tarver fight would be his last but if it offers like 20mil damn b-hop will surely fight JC or maybe RJJ would be a bigger payday for him rather than fightin JC..
The 12 round pace that Joe fought Lacy at was simply incredible...can anyone name another fighter that displayed that kind of fighting shape? When is the last time a fighter used his legs for 12 rounds all the while slugging it out?
Everytime Juan Diaz fights
Joe ? HaHa yeah
When joe beats sombody other than lacy who can box like glen johnson then He can talk him beating ex I really dont see it because benard would slow do the pace of the fight and break him down then knock him out so stop with the retart talk Joe hasnt fought anybody on Bhop level yet so when this dude stop geting injured well see!!
I dont know how anyone could easily dismiss Bernard Hopkins in a fight with Joe but when I say Joe would have a good chance at beating Nard worse then he has ever been beaten that is not really how it sounds...
Keep in mind his two losses to Taylor could have gone either way and his fight with Jones w as a close borefest (forget his 1st fight)...
Joe would have a much tougher time catching Nard clean no doubt about it but the shear 12 round volume that Calzaghe would throw at Hopkins would be tough to deal with at his age.

Lacy gave Joe a target while doing almost nothing in return, Lacy just stood there and took a beating, yea he used his legs..but its not like Lacy didint make it easy for him, Lacy looked out of the fight by round 2 anyway. Hopkins has a way of not only intimidating his competition, but he also has a way of taking away your best punches, whatever you think your gonna do often times just doesnt work, or work as well as you planned. So well see.
B-Hop isnt Jeff Lacy, I dont know why these people are acting like this is some kind of easy fight for Joe. While i give Joe a chance, a very good chance, this is not going to be a beating by any means.

My thoughts exactly, people tout that Jeff Lacy victory as if Lacy was a top ranked pound-for-pound fighter at the time or some shit. Hopkins is no pushover and it would be a damn good fight, and yet another chance for Hopkins to not only make history but make his detractors eat shit like he always has.

nice. Hopkins already fucked JC over once and pulled out of a fight with Joe, but then again JC has fucked over Johnson a few times so I guess thats just Karma. Frank Warren wants to make this fight and Joe wants it, its all about whether Hopkins wants it. I think Hopkins has too much to lose, his legacy is looking pretty sweet now.
Joe and Frank need to make a ridiculous offer to Bernard...80-20 or some shit like that...there is no other way it would work.
Joe has got to bend over for this fight (as he should-he has never made a concession in his life), if Nard wants a blow then thats what Joe has got to do-blow the motherfucker...It is a very very winnable fight for Joe and he has the ability to beat Nard worse then he has ever been beaten which would really make a statement.
How much money would the fight be worth in Wales? How much money would thge fight be worth in the U.S.? (love to get a guestamation here)
Frank Warren has to come up with a crazy ass offer and see how Nard takes it, for a long while I have held the opinion that Hatton vs. Floyd is the biggest fight in the game right now...I think some things as The Dude would say "have come to light"....Hopkins vs. Calzaghe may be the biggest fight in the sport currrently...with that said Joe Calzaghe should be prepared to do absolutely anything to entice the old lion....yes even suck his cock, right?
