I like Wright but the way he chose to fight the last round and his subsequent decision to leave the ring before the interview left me dissapointed in him. He was teh challenger, not the undisputed champ, like Taylor was. And, knowing that he was fighting in Taylors home area he should have known better that to coast in that last round.
On the other hand, i useed to think Taylor was too mechanical and not a pure fighter, but he showed me something tonight. Also, his interview with Larry secured my belief that he is a good champ and a decent fellow.
Wright has seemed very vain in recent years and it has been a big turnoff. It's like he thinks he's the Puff Daddy of boxing.
Well If Clazaghe is looking for one big superfight then Taylor is the obvious candidate with Hopkins taking Tarver to School and back a TArver - Calzaghe fight does not have half as much the appeal that a Taylor - Calzaghe fight holds
I doubt Winky fights JC after that, unless the money is better than what he got for this fight, which I doubt. Jermaine Taylor vs Joe Calzaghe...but I'll guess Joe 'I ain't gettin on no plane' Calzaghe would have to get on a plane, could happen I guess.
I wasn't disappointed in Wright he moved up in weight to fight the middle weight champ someone pyshically far bigger than him and was almost crafty enough to dethrone him. The only thing that bugged me was Winky's last round he obviously felt he had the fight won and decided to take advantage of Taylors swollen eye by coasting the last round occasionly throwing the stiff jab then back off, whereas if Wright forced the issue a little more in the last round then we could of had a new middleweight champ. Watching on sky sports it was said at the end that he would not want a rematch which is understandable because clearly his plan did not go to work and he did feel the extra weight in Taylors punches so it would be a smart decision to move back down to light middle. Being a fan of Winky i had it a draw with mayb Winky winning by a few rounds but a tight fight and i feel all in all Winky did not do enough to take Taylor's title from him. All i can say is I want Hopkins Taylor III desperately
Whats that argument exactly? Because regardless, they were close fights.Though I do believe Wright coasted foolishly. But what exactly is the argument/"excuse" being made for Taylor?
WHile I don't agree with the argument, people were saying Wright coasted in the 11th and 12, specifically the 12th, when he should have brought it to Taylor. Meanwhile, in his last fight fights, Taylor could not bring anything in the final rounds when I felt he needed to. This point is moot to me anyway, since I don't agree with it.
THat all being said, I just finished downloading the fight (shitty nsv quality though) and skipped immediately to the 12th round. I am more positive than ever that wright won that round. Taylor landed at best 4 shots in the first 2 minutes. His "flurry" which was talked about hit nothing but gloves at about the 1:00 mark where at best 1 shot landed. Winky controlled the pace of the final round, and clearly outlanded Taylor.
Taylor, quite clearly in the post fight interview, felt that he was actually behind in the fight I'd say which is why they made such a big deal out of WInky "giving up" the 12th round. How are you, the "champion", going to not try to win the final round by pursuing your opponent who you believe to be ahead.
And, this whole thing is strangely ironic given the type of fight this was compared to the Hopkins/Taylor fight... yet a new argument is being formed for Taylor that works against him in the last 2 fights.
And thin veiled nothing. My posts are short and to the point and if somebody misinterprets them, they need only read them again to understand it.
Well duh.You are infallible.
Its just sometimes the subtle genius of your posts escape me. :(

lmao. That was the core of your argument E.And you didnt deserve to get away with by thinly veiling it.
Correct me if I be wrong.I bet not as smart as you.But fuck.Wasnt Taylor fighting the 12th,with one eye?
But i wont make that the basis of my argument. Here it is though,as Taylor, how do you engage the guy who wont engage? As winky, how do you NOT give it your fucking all in the championship rounds? against the champion?

I'm not suggesting that if nobody lands or throws a shot it be given to the person who was pressing the action and controlling the tempo, but I'm saying if I couldn't score it even and somebody had to be awarded the round... how would it not be that person?
You can't fight off your back foot the entire round, throw 1 flurry that nothing lands, and expect to win. JT commented how he was shocked Winky didn't press the fight in the 12th... how the fuck didn't JT press the fight in the 12th? Everybody is putting higher standards on Winky for these rounds for some reason, and I simply don't see why.
Addon: Shit Mech, don't take this the wrong way, but that's fucking retarded to not read a whole sentence.

Shit, E. dont take this the wrong way,but thats fucking retarded.
I guess I cant argue that the champ might get the nod in a close round against that impregnable logic.

Winky was the one controlling the 12th round's pace, therefore even if not a single punch is thrown he'd get the nod if anybody.

Winky did run at the end though. How can Winky of all people do that, when he already lost to Vargas because of it and he saw what happened to Oscar. He is too much of a vet for that and his trainer was telling him to fight and win the rounds.
It wasnt just the 12th either. People gave him the 11th but I thought he ran in that one alot too. People wondered why Taylor couldnt hit him but it was because Winky ran at the end and thats a bad ending to a super fight
Fuck.Im glad somebody saw it like i did, seriously.
Yeah I was rooting for Taylor, but shit, lets not ignore what winky didnt do.Its not like I dont recognise what Taylor did wrong. He was an idiot for backing into the corner for example. At least raise your fuckin hands Jermain.

you didn't see the count down? he does think hes puff
WINKY WON this Boxing MATCH! I have been watching BOXING since I was a little boy. You really have to be a pure boxing fan to score this match. This is boxing not the UFC. Winky won the boxing match! PERIOD! He proved he could be stronger and box on the inside. Who was suppose to be the stronger man? Taylor? Nope Winky was! He was more technical WINKY Was. I think Talylor learned from Hopkins how to LUNG in with your head. However hopkins does it and makes it look good and his head never balloons up. Wright Won the boxing match! . It was a hard yes however if you look at the COMPUBOX it was shut out for Winky. Reason the HBO people likes Taylor is #1 HBO is a bussiness and Taylor is more marketable 2# he will go higher in weight 3# He is much younger and 4# he was trained by HBO employee Emanual Stewared. How would that have looked if Taylor would have lost? At a bussiness stand point they want Taylor to win. It reminds me of Larry Holmes in his 2nd fight agisnt Mike Spinks when he said
" I say this to the refs the promoters and the judges they can kiss where the sun dont shine and since were on HBO thats my big black BEHIND. !!" Thats what Winky basically said in a more professional manner after by saying I dont need a rematch. I know I won.
I saw it 8 rounds to 4 win for winky!
don't patronize the knowledgeable fans on this sight. You know no more or less than anyone else here about "scoring a pure boxing match" based on this sole fight.
Your problem is that question is asserting that Winky has to do something to win the round. Winky was the one controlling the 12th round's pace, therefore even if not a single punch is thrown he'd get the nod if anybody. Winky landed more shots, JT had 1 or 2 flurries that were virtually entirely blocked, as opposed to Winky rather clearly landing jabs every so often and a couple of straight lefts.
He might've changed gears but he still won the round. You're clearly Lampley's illegitimate child to believe this bull shit that Taylor won the 12th convincingly somehow.
i am not sure there was much of a "pace" in the 12th. I'll watch the round again but i thougt Jermain landed 1 or 2 heavy punches in those 2 flurries and that negates the 3=4 jabs Wright may have landed.
Winky did all those things in the 12th?
Not in the 12th, but I answered your Q about the 12th in another thread.
Anything that Winky did was better than what Taylor did (nothing).

haha Wink virtually does nothing but press the action against power punchers and now he's a pussy because of the 12th round of this fight? Get fucking real.
Props to Winky for doing just that againsta "bigger" man. But, he made a dumb choice to run in the 12th and run after the decision.
I had Wright winning 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 11, 12 Taylor winning 3, 6, 8, 10 and I had 9 even.
In those rounds Winky won he controlled Taylor with the jab, battered him against the ropes with power shots, and blocked a significant amount of Taylors shots with his gloves and arms.
Winky did all those things in the 12th?
