During the undercard last night during the Paez Jr-vs. the kid from Iowa; They were talking about amatuer fighters and gyms and where prospects are coming from, and basically emmanuel steward said the best fighters are being trained and groomed in California and Florida. He said Philly is going down the drain as well as Detroit. Im curious if we will ever see any good prospects or future prize fighters come out of the midwest or other places in the us where there arent great resources and competition for kids like Paez jr's opponent from Iowa=who gave a decent performance frustrating Paez and being hard to hit flush. I bet this Iowa kid, I forget his name already, could become a real decent fighter if he could keep getting good competition like he had last night. Is there any hope for the future of usa boxing outside of Cali and Florida??
The future of American fighters is going down the drain. Why would these American youngsters risk their lives being in the fight game when they can earn more money and become more popular in other sports such as basketball, baseball, football, hockey, etc.
It is not just that...there is no investment in kids/young men in places like Philly...I am not talking just boxing, but in all sports.
Do you know how many people I have seen that were "naturally" great athletes, but threw their lives away because they didn't have the support system...to many, it is a shame.
You hear the same shit over and over from kids and other adults..."You will never make anything of yourself"; "You will be in jail or dead by the time you are 18", etc.
There is really no positive encouragement from adults in the blue-collar and poor parts of Philly.
Education sucks in Philly too...If you argue, "Why not change it", you hear the same shit, "You can't", and if you try to do something about adults always get in the way.
The "System" sucks
Makes me want to get a rally going :D
Oh, it is also the world of boxing that sucks...there is no dam legit league like the NFL, NBA, MLB.
People know that these fighters still get shit on, so why would they want to go into such a sport with No League, No Union, etc.

isn't winky from a place where they don't produce many top fighters?
and theirs this one fighter that fights on espn that is undefeated, a white fighter he seems to have good skills and if i rememember he was from another remoter place for boxing
but i think their will be, but parents or friends have to guide them to the gym and that is a huge statement steward made im very surprised he said this
