Lennox Lewis, in my opinion, is one of the hardest hitters in heavyweight history. He threw hard, fast and accurate punches. But often he wanted to play it save, that's why he decided to box rather than to fight. Have a look at his fights against Golota, Ruddock, Jackson, Grant, Rahman, Tyson. Lewis had very serious punching power, very serious.
Lewis is up there with the best in my opinon.
His KO ratio is lower than what it probably should be:
He was very careful the way he fought; he wasn't the guy who was looking for the KO, if it came it came.
When he was mad or "game" for the attack, he could be ruthless...when he wanted to punch, he punched, and it was Big.
When he was in that mode, i would have to say yes. But the thing is, he wasn't always aggressive. Often times, he was content to simply jab his opponent to death and score points. However, considering how huge he was, if he hit a man flush with his whole body behind the blow, someone was getting knocked out.
I wouldn't put him up there with Louis, Dempsey, Foreman, Shavers, etc. as a puncher, but only because he didn't display his power often enough.
I will say this...WATCH HIS FUCKING KO OVER RAHMAN. Lewis could throw a top 3 hardest punch ever with his right hand, IF he wanted to. Overall, no he doesn't have very heavy hands. But that right hand of his..you gotta give credit.
It even sounds diffirent.
I'd have to say based on his phyique, yes. Lewis was a huge man with a lot of power in the right hand...and the left. The problem is he didn't "fight big". He was a counter-puncher and a stylist, not a slugger. If he were a slugger, like Forman, for example, he could have conceiveably gotten more kayos. However, his chin, which wasn't made of granite, would have hendered him with that style because if you're looking to knock out your opponent, you leave more openings in your defense.
I'd put Lewis in the bottom half of the Top Ten Hardest Punchers; but he deserves to be that hight up, IMO.
I agree. thats why he doesnt get the credit he deserved as far as power punchers is concerned. its because he didnt fight like a power puncher. instead of going straight in and letting his hands go,,he boxed cautiously and didnt often load up on his punches but when he did he hit as hard if not harder than any heavyweight ever
He didn't hit harder than Frazier, Marciano, Dempsey, Foreman, or Louis.
he hit harder than all of them with the exception of foreman. louis dempsey and marciano were great punches pound for pound but lewis was much bigger and hit harder
i think Lewis had great power and was usally vary accurate with his shots. he is just not one of the hardest punchers, but he had great power better than most if not all the heavyweights today
Yeah I think Wlad Klitschko hits harder than Lewis. Lewis obviously had extremely good power, but probably not on a historic level. What a jab though. He popped that against Holy and Tyson with an artistic quality. Lennox Lewis is a guy I think will be remembered better 20 years from now than he is now because I think people try to denigrate him for some reason(maybe the British thing). He got KO'd against two guys who weren't elite or KO masters but he decimated some of the top fights of his era (wins over Tyson, Holyfield, and Vitali Klitschko are victories that won't be on many resumes).
with his size defiently..everybody who fought him said he was the hardest puncher they ever faced..lennox lewis could knock ppl out COLD
not true tyson said ruddock, holyfield said bowe, mcall said bert cooper, morrison said mercer, mercer said morrison, ruddock said morrison .
