What are Paul Malignaggi's chances against Cotto? I havent really seen Paul fight so let me have the scoop on this kid. I saw his interview on mb.com he seemed like he is hyperactive in terms of how he talks and conducts himself outside of the ring can the same be said of him in the ring?
I'm not saying that he will get as big a pay day as this. What I'm saying is that because of his lack of power and his self promoting big mouth that he can be marketed to other top fighters as a minimal-risk if he loses. This is seen with DeMarcus Corley. After losing to to Zab, he went on to later fight Elite fighters such as PBF and Cotto.
Paulie if he loses can still look forward to getting shots versus elites and pretty substantial pay days.
From what I recall Malignaggi just last year was fighting in Ballroom boxing for Lou Dibella with only a few tv fights and now he is on ppv?
See Corley done this but prior to losing he fought a few decent names before hand. What Malignaggi needed to do was to fight a lower caliber upper fighter like Witter/N'doue/Vivian hell even go after Maussa if need be it and get some exposure and high caliber fights before taking on the giant in the division.
Malignaggi landed this fight because he can talk and he just came out into the light at the right time for Cotto to fight in NYC.
His chance of winning is about as large as his KO rate and surely nobody can give him a chance....Many people tried to box Cotto but failed miserably he eventually caught up. If it isnt apparent by now the blue print for Cotto is stepping in and getting inside which Malignaggi isnt going to do...It is only a matter of time before Cotto seeks and destroys Malignaggi.

To compare Demarcus Corley and Paulie Malinaggi is to flat out disrespect Demarcos Corely...they are on two different levels.
Paulie has never fought anyone that is remotely decent, if he gets blown away by Cotto we will see very very little of this kid from there on out.
People will pay to see a loser if he loses heroically...people wont pay to see some shoe shiner run around the ring trying to pet his way to victory.
Your right though....Paulie and his mouth/look are certainly markletable for sure...but this could all end with one piss poor outing.
You dont know this.
If Paulie loses heroically then yes he probably can still make a few bucks but if he either gets annihilated or runs around on a bicycle for 12 rounds losing a disgusting decision then not even Italians (myself icluded) will give a shit about this kid.
If Paulie loses he will never ever ever see a payday any where near what he will recieve against Mr. Cotto, fucking never!

I said this before, everybody has a chance when the bell sounds, but I really can't picture Paulie doing anything but run around in this fight- Cotto will cut off the ring and punish him badly, this one will get stopped by the corner--- Cotto by TKO
His only way to beat Cotto would be KO him but look at his KO rate 4.2% :D
This fight is going to be ugly but should make for good tv...It's a shame for Cotto really that it isnt on regular television as this fight would rise his popularity even more.

Just one more point. Even if Paulie loses he still has a few big paydays left for him. He is the polar opposite of Margarito. Because of Paulie's lack of punching power he will sought after as a tune up or setup for mega fights. Margarito because of his power is being avoided like a hoe with an itchy crotch.

Cotto breaks down many of the opponents he faces and I don't feel that Malignaggi will be any different. Cotto has busted up some pretty damned durable fighters...most of them possessing a bit of power to keep Cotto off of them.
I say Cotto breaks down this kids body with those savage rips downstairs, then he comes up and lands punches in combination when Paulie gets tired of moving around.
Cotto has nothing to look out when going to the body.

Horrid mismatch that should make Paulie a rich man, if Paulie and Dibella thought they had a long shelf life in this boxing game you'd never see this fight.
I agree with you here also. I think Paulie and his Managers dont think he has a prolonged career ahead of him and want to fast forward his career and make some money. Cotto and his Managers like the fight because it gives Cotto a break from Hard hitters and preps him up slightly for other good boxers(who can actually punch though). It also makes sense for the promoters because its day before Puerto Rican day parade and there are Huge amounts Italian and Puerto Rican boxing fans in NY and they will probably get a nice draw.
Nice to see most are of right mind here...
Paulie has no shot and has been moved incredibly quickly because of the limited time he has left in the fight game due to his hand problems.
If Paulie wins judges will have to be in agreement that they give points for running which I just dont think will happen.

This fight will look like Hakkar vs Hopkins when Cotto explodes on him and if he tries to run.
Everyone knows this fight is a fluke and is only made because it Paulie is from NY and it puts asses in the seats especially being the day before the Puerto Rican Parade if I am correct....This is just to glorify Cotto even further and make him look good. Just another form of another hype machine from HBO.
Their is a more competitive fight 10x's better than this one right down the river.
I have d/l some Paulie fights. I remember seeing him on FNF but needed to look at him again with a more critical eye. While I think he has more pop than some people suspect because he will now have healthy hands, I dont think he has enough pop to gain respect. There are 2 ways people stalk.
A) Your stalking a dangerous boxer puncher i.e. PBF @ 135lbs, In this case you are cautious because the guy can hurt you cant come in that quick or reckless due to his power.
B) Your stalking a boxer with no power i.e. Bianco or Spinks, here you can come in quicker, take more chances and be less focused on defense because they dont have the power to make you pay for your mistakes.
Its easier to cut off the ring and stalk a guy like Paulie, who doesnt show much power and who wont gain the respect of the elites.

I think Paulie has an excellent chance of taking Cotto the distance, simply because Cotto only seems to have decent footwork when he's circling or backing up. When he stalks, he looks like he has lead boots on. This is not based on amatuer backgrounds, ring experience, or level of opposition, just my opinion that Cotto is alot slower than Paulie. Of course I could be wrong, Cotto may close the gap early and KO Paulie, but based on what I've seen, I say Paulie either outboxes Cotto, or gets tagged early and loses a UD.
Malignaggi is very very very VERY green and has no power. He has skills we can all see that but who was it against? Low tiered opposition so of course he is going to look good. Hell Jesus Chavez jr. looks good in some fights should we throw him in their with Cotto?
Fact is Malignaggi is very green and hasnt had to deal with adversity which will hurt him in this fight. Also Malignaggi reminds me of a Zab Judahish fighter. He has a chip on his shoulder and constantly turns his back to his opponents I think he will lose focus if he keeps a distance from Cotto and thinks it will be a walk in the park. Which Malignaggi does often! Cotto on the other hand has been in very risky situations and came through them and has boxed and brawled a good bit of name opponents. Also Cotto is just physically stronger and IMO will eat Malignaggis jabs while stalking him into the later rounds. Nothing Paulie can do to stop Cotto from coming forward.
Remember though, Malignaggi might be a decent boxer but Cotto is an excellent brawler and a good boxer...
TKO 8th round.
Cotto may permanently damage the backstreet boy. I saw Paulie fight, and many of you say that he is slick, he is not that slick. He does get hit, and when he gets hit by Cotto his life will be in jeopardy.
Malignaggi fights in reverse with a very open stance. Cotto will run through this chump. Malignaggi may run for a couple of rounds and frustrate Cotto a little, but it will be only a matter of time before Cotto wins by KO.
seen him fight some bums. Malignaggi is not a championship caliber fighter and doesn't deserve a shot at Cotto.
He has not power at all.
All speed and slickness. Blinding jab. Very quick single puncher. His hand speed in combos is a bit slower and he leaves his hands down when throwing them with power.
Defense, he's slick but he over estimates himself. It ain't even that great defensively considering he is in the ring with guys with two left feet that can't dance and punch at the same time.
Cotto KO in 6-7 rds after he figures MAGIC man and shuts up mega mouth.
