Damn bro, that was a lame post.
I didn't want to bring up this part of history....but you made me do it.
The last time Puerto Rico had a fighter that they thought would beat Finito Lopez......when these two fought one was clearly better then the other. The other being the tough Puerto Rican fighter named Alex Sanchez. Sanchez was supposed to be competitive with Lopez, some even felt he would beat Lopez....we know Lopez was too much for Sanchez. Fact is even at 30 plus years Lopez was still the best of his divsion and the best straw-weight ever.
Not by meaningless title defenses, but Calderon is gonna have big fights, and thats where he will seperate from Lopez, because beating Lopezs record he'd have to fight until hes 40.
Damn I wish I had not read that post. I feel stupider now.
Calderon and Morel are just not anywhere near Finito's class. I mean really nowhere, nowhere near.
People By Age 35 Get Slower And Weaker
But Calderon it`s not showing any sings so far lol
i think calderon would be the second greatest minimun weight
thats what i think
Already, Calderon has big name fights coming his way.
Rodel Mayol
Hawini punch, two career defing fights.
Calderons already the 6th greatest Minimumweight on boxrec :D
He has fights 'coming his way'
He will be better than Lopez (even tho he is 31 now, and only had 25 fights, plus he cant punch for shit.)
Time will tell, but until then, dont shout about a fighter which has done shit yet.
Dont forget that Lopez ducked Eric Morel (a Puerto Rican whos in jail now), because everyone wanted to see that fight.
The only fight left for Lopez would have been a superfight with Eric Morel.
Lopez age 30 he still would have beaten Morel. Their was no ducking from Lopez who on television told Larry Merchant, "show me the money and I will fight anyone", after Merchant said if he would move up in weight and fight Morel. So, what happened? no one apperently wanted to see the fight if HBO didn't want to put up the money. Morel who had just won the title keep defending but not impressing..... to push for a title fight with Lopez. Morel keep defending his title by descision and taking a lot of bad press from his winning efforts.
So fact is their was no money in the fight so HBO didn't want to make that fight. Lopez was more then willing to fight him and thats a fact. Lopez ducked nobody. Later on Morel fought Martin Castillo and lost. And it wasn't a great effort by Morel. Who looked like a world class fighter when he won his first title. Morel was a fair fighter, but he couldn't beat Finito. :boxing:
Question: Any comments on the retirement of Ricardo Lopez retirement?
Morel: The only way I could have fought him was if he would have come up in weight class. He was fighting at junior flyweight and it is impossible for me to drop to that weight. I really want to fight the best, and he was one of the best out there but at a lower weight class. He had the opportunity to come up in weight class. He had nothing to lose. He did not do that. It was his decision and I respect that. Now that he announced his retirement, I will see what Top Rank wants me to do. Whether it is to stay at 112 or move up. I will be ready for whatever they want me to do.
What does that prove?
Do u have any comments of Lopez? Surley that would be a little less biased.
Even then, who knows why the fight never took place. That interview isnt proof of anything.
I know Lopez has been critisized for not moving up by many people.
I cant believe he lacked confidence in his ability as he was so dominant.
But it is possible he didnt want to take a big risk.
Id still like to hear his opinion.
Do you even know who he is knocking out?
The whole 'Lopez ducked him' stuff is just a typical putdown.
How can we know who ducked who? Or who priced thenmselves out of a fight.?

So do u think he would of beaten Lopez?
U think he is better than Lopez?
I havent seen him fight, so i cant comment.
Lopez was truly great.
I havent seen this other guy fight, how impressive is he?
His record isnt that impressive. Alot of his opponents have had alot of loses.
Ivan Calderón (born January 7, 1975 in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) is a boxer from Puerto Rico. Calderón attended the 2000 Olympics in Australia, but he lost there on the first tournament round. Calderón resides in Guaynabo.
He also lost to Brian Viloria during his amateur boxing career, but he beat Viloria three times before turning professional
I never knew he fought Viloria before..hes WBO, and has beaten former WBC/IBF champions...
So he hasn't won a title yet.
If the money is right. Lopez is like almost 40, though. He punches way harder than Ivan. I remember some boxing writer making a joke that Calderon's hands are 60% cotton and 40% Jell-O.
That's just it though, how much money do you think there will be for this fight?
Little to none. It's unfortunate, but the lighter divisions don't get the big dollars.
I shutter to think what Arce and Alvarez are getting for their upcoming fight...
