Another guy who I think gets a lot of shit for having a poor chin when in reality it really wasn't that bad.
I think Trinidad had bad balance, which made it look like he had a poor chin. Sure he was dropped multiple times, but we never really saw him in bad shape until the 10th round of the Hopkins fight...after taking 9 1/2 rounds of 1 sided beating from one of the greatest middleweights ever.
I don't know why I'm arguing in Tito's favor here, but I just don't think his chin was as bad as everyone believes. Every time he was dropped (Vargas, Carr, Campas, Reid etc) he got up immediately and was ready to come back and take your head off.
He didn't have a great chin, but I don't think it was terrible.
agreed in fact I put jones with louis and hearns...
not with judah or wlad ;)
RJJ did not have a good chin, but he was slick enough to not get hit.
Tito did not have a great chin as well.

you all forgot about Ken Norton and Floyd Patterson **down more times in title fights then any other Hv**... both are in the top 30 all time heavyweights
probably but Lewis had an average chin and he was still dominant, besides fighters with average chins and great power are a fans dream, who wants to see a guy who could get hit in the face with a sledgehammer and not blink.
Good chins certainly help alot. Imagine if Julio Cesar Chavez an Roberto Duran had glass jaws. They would never have been heard of.
the chin helps a lot specially if you fight like chavez & duran...
If you have amazing skills to make up for it...then not really...
For example, if you have defense so slick that you never get hit, then it ain't going to matter THAT much...
Nautilus obviously made this thread because of his love for Wlad....Wlad does not have the skills to make up for his chin....
A fighter doesn't have to have a great chin to be a great fighter but it helps.Fighters like Duran, Hagler, and Ali had great chins and help them become legends.
I think you can still be a great fighter do without: joe louis, thomas hearns, roy jones jr
but to be in the olympus like sugar ray robinson, joe gans... you also need a bad ass chin
I aggree their.
The thing is, Tommys chin never really showed to be that poor until he went up above 154.
He took some vicious shots from Ray Leonard at 147...and Ray was a damned solid puncher at that weight.
Now I know he didn't have some rock hard chin or anything, but I think he doesn't get enough credit for having an above average chin at lower weights.
