Kessler vs Joppy

Yea...I've been looking at the Super-Middle rankings and there aren't too many notable American names. It's a division that hasn't had much limelight, but I believe it's all about to change. The thing is Kessler is still only 26 and is younger than both Lacy and Taylor. I've been re-watching some Kessler, Lacy fights and for me now, I'd favour Kessler over anyone in the division. Lucian Bute, the much touted prospect is only a year younger than Kessler. The division is loaded with talent atm from fighters all around the world. You have contenders like Froch, and Andrade, throw in a couple of Aussies, Mundine & Green, then you got the old timers, Calzaghe & Beyer. Not bad at all.

I guess like in the fight with Jermain Taylor Joppy is playing the role of the doormat that makes the other guy look good in front of a national audience. Should be good exposure for Kessler, though. very good way to put it.. from what i saw in the Lucas fight, this one should be really ugly if it happens, for Joppy that is, he'll probably stop fighting a few rounds earlier than in the fight he had with Taylor, except if he does it this time, he's getting knocked out. this would only be Joppy's third fight at super middleweight, and it wouldn't be against a 8-34 or 11-9 opponent, its against the 37-0 viking from Denmark.. ugh, i already see this fight getting one-sided.

Kessler vs Joppy isnt exactly a good match up, at all. Joppy is shot and is going to get hurt if he continues to fight. I bet they want to see if Kessler can stop Joppy unlike Hopkins and Taylor. Although Hopkins beat the piss out of Joppy, I don't know why Joppy ever got back into the ring after that ass whoopin!!!!! Trinidad broke Joppy up, Hopkins damn near vaporized him, Taylor got sloppy thirds, if Kessler fights him he better end the recycling of Joppy. they should put him in there against someone else, like: Yusaf Mack, Scott Pemberton, Otis Grant, Allan Green, I could go on about who is a better opponent for Kessler. nothing against Joppy I know he needs to eat and all, but I don't want to see him fight no more. he is just being used as someone said earlier in the thread, a doormat! at least the guys I mentioned aren't damaged goods. I agree that just about any of those guys would be a good tune-up. I think Pemberton is set to take on Manfredo next, though. After Lacy takes out Calzaghe, bring on Kessler. These three guys are all excellent boxers, and they need to get the Super Middleweight belts unified like Bell, Mormeck, and Braithwaite did for the Cruiserweight division.

Does anybody have a good idea on who he should fight? I mean, if we count out the 3 other belt holders, and the 2 ausies..

Kessler vs Joppy is a joke. Kessler is so much bigger than Joppy and would slaugther him. I do NOT want to see that fight. Joppy is shot and I don't want to him take such a one sided beating. I love the idea of a US showcase fight for Kessler, but find a better opponent, please. My sentiments exactly. The problem seems to be, as I am now scanning the super middle rankings, that there really aren't many good American super middles. To have a fight with a recognizable yank will probably mean fighting a washed up middleweight like Joppy and really pushing the potential Lacy matchup.

Echols can turn a fight around with a haymaker but his stamina and maybe his chin are questionable. He's fought at 168 before I know, but I think he may be campaigning at 160 again now. Bute's a super-middle so he may go back up. At the very least he'll collect a paycheck, and it could be good for Bute as well to beat someone with a bit of name recognition. I think his victory over Salem would still be more impressive, unless he manages to really nail Echols.

Yeah, I was being somewhat smug about the Echols thing (although I truly believe he would put up a better fight than Joppy), but I can't understand how they would believe that this a good fight to showcase Kessler's talent to fans in the US. And as you all have said, if he doesn't get Joppy out of there fast, then it will make him look bad. They should've done the last fight in the US. Fans here know who Lucas is and if all US boxing fans could've seen his performance in that fight, there would definitely be excitement about a possible fight with Lacy or Calzaghe. Echols' name keeps coming up as the next opponent for Romanian-Canadian prospect Lucian Bute, btw.

I heard Joppy was fighting at Light Heavy recently? He came in at 170 his last fight according to boxrec but he has mostly fought at MW.........he is getting old.

heh, you could call it that to if you wanted :cool: . I never believe it when a fighter calls out someone else because it's so easy to do that when you don't mean it, and then cry foul when it comes time to work out the contract. So you can then say that you really, really wanted to fight the other guy but the terms offered were "insulting". Witter's camp have worked hard to be Floyd's mandatory though. Floyd really has to decline to face Witter for this fight not to happen.

I would like to see Kessler against a guy that I think will test him with the kinds of haymakers we may see from Lacy if that fight ever happens. Echols, I think, would be a better choice for an exciting fight and would maybe let me see what Kessler's chin is made of. So far, I'm convinced that Kessler stands a very good chance against Lacy, Calzaghe or any other guy at super middle. I don't think that a win vs Joppy will do anything toward convincing a larger American audience, though.

The difference being that Witter has come back from his defeat and made himself into a better fighter. One poor fight several years ago shouldn't really prejudice you against him. Joppy is a shot fighter though. Witter's look like shit in recent matches, though.
